I found this video after watching the "Noah takes a picture of himself every day for 6 years" i stumbles across by a total coincidence. I signed up to youtube only to be able to comment on it. I just had to. It'a an amazing video. Makes you think, too...

The quality cleary changes at what would be proportionally 3-4 years after the commencement of the project. The colour becomes more clarified, if you noticed. I would say this indicates a change in camera.
Considering he announced this project in 2000 and submitted it in 2006 should really discredit your doubt.
Ask yourself if it would really be worth one taking well over 2000 pictures over the course of 6 years if one weren't doing it properly. Your cynicism is illogical.
just watch the original video without those commentarys and enjoy it.
