I'm liking this series but the whole title not so much. Sure elder scrolls is a first person game but games like that are not shooters def should be called history of first person games. But none the less good videos brings back memories
I dare to say that doom is still pretty much superior to all other games, including 3DO which was basically a movie sort-of console, with little or no gameplay.
Why no King's Field? Came out late 1994 in Japan, similar game to the Elder Scrolls series only it looks much better than Daggerfall which came several years later. Would be the most advanced looking title in this video.
Also missing is Christmas Carnage (or Xmas Carnage), made with the Hidden Below engine. But I think me and one other guy on the 'net are the only ones who have ever played it.
@thekoalak You didn't actually tell anything. What if I compare CoD to this? I, for one, cannot compare them because they are from different time periods. It's like comparing a Stealth Bomber to first planes. However if there were no first planes, there wouldn't be a Stealth Bomber. That's what I meant :P.
@Deon023 Dude i'm just saying campare this to call of duty so you see the progress that fps games has done so far and if you caint immagine screw you :)
I remember having a Geforce 3 Ti200 in my dell 8200, only 256mb of ram in that pc, then when I got the Geforce 4 Ti4600 Medal of honor: Allied Assault performed very good. I still play MOH:AA online, there are over 1,000 servers still active and many people still play that game and Return to castle wolfenstein is still active online aswell, hell Battlefield:1942, and Bf:vietnam are still active online, many servers up. Don't let it fool you many older games are still played by hundreds online.

I remember in '94 wondering why the hell I would wanna play Doom II - which made no improvement over the original - when I could play ROTT with better graphics, human enemies and amazing gore
@natevines ROTT didn't have better graphics, it didn't even support varying heights, the entire level had the same height, and didn't have lighting either. Doom was ages ahead from a graphics standpoint.
You can buy Marathon: Durandal (the second game in the trilogy) for the xbox 360, with enhanced graphics. You can download all three Marathon games for free for Mac and PC, including the semi-popular Marathon mod, "Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge." Just google search "Aleph One".
Would you believe, I played Terminal Terror in 1994/5 with my cousin and after a few minutes we concluded "only the graphics are good", the game-play itself did not hold up, so we went back to playing doom.
I specifically remember a green huey helicopter on a helipad, and being amazed how the game was set at night, in an espionage type mission. And now I see those lump-sided aircraft models... oh my.
There are two FPS developed by the british Core Design for Sega CD: in Thunderhawk/AH-3 Thunderstrike (1993) you control a helicopter, attack primary and secondary objectives, move in 4 directions and change the altitude. In Battlecorps (1994) you control a rather slow tank/mech. Both games had demos published in CDs in magazines.
Watching some of these, I ended up thinking about this game demo where you drive around in a taxi with guns. If you hadn't had the footage, I wouldn't have related "Quarantine" as the name of the game.
I also remember the "Ludicrous Gibs" when you'd cause explosions - eyeballs, guts and all, in Rise of the Triad.
my computer isn't able to play mega cd games, for some odd reason. i have genesis and n64 emulators and they work fine. plus it's easier if someone else does it :P

They're ALL using Wolfenstein.
And the Japanese consoles; don't even make me laugh!
Then it's just like "Doom II, you can stop watching now."
And uh,
Cyberia isn't exactly a "First person shooter" there.
Which reminds me; I've been wanting to play some Cyberia 2.
