Beyonce is a high alto, low soprano where Jennifer is a strong alto, high tenor. It's really hard to compare the 2 vocally. Beyonce's voice is straight. She also has more years in the business so I can safely assume she has a vocal coach teaching control. Jen's voice is deeper with a more raw sound. Even when she is singing straight there's power. Jen has that "I've been in the church all my life" voice. I personally feel it more when I hear Jen sing, I'm more entertained with Bey.

@amitayy1 That is definitely a false statement. "Beyonce is the only one who got everything"??? There is definitely imperfection in everyone. Beyonce's acting skills are terrible. I feel that Halle Berry is just as pretty and she has way better acting skills, which is way she has so many awards. This is in no way meant to hate on Beyonce because she is beautiful and talented musically, but she is not the only beauty on this planet. However, she is the main one advertised.

I don't think you can compare these two voices they singer similar songs but beyonce and Coline Dion are more comparable they have been in the business for a long time and know their voices and vocally they are very similar.....in range and everything! Jennifer and Fantasia are more comparable they are both young and sort of new in the business and vocally the same as far as beltinging and loudness and range and style of singing! Just my opinion!

She can not help the fact that God gave her a louder vocals. She can be soft when she wants to but extremel powerful. You could barely hear Beyonce in some parts of the award performance. However, Beyonce has been singing professionally for 12 years and Jennifer is able to at least keep up with her and she's just starting her career. All I can say is that Beyonce won 3 Soul Train awards her first year with Destiny's Child and Jennifer won an Oscar and a Grammy. If you look at it from that angle, Beyonce can't even begin to touch Jennifer.
@AmReeHink You can also look at like from the perspective that Beyoncé was 19 when she won those awards and Jennifer was 26. Jennifer has been professionally singing for 7 years now, so she's not really just starting. She may have the raw talent, but that's just what it is. Raw. She is yet to refine it which is why I personally think Beyoncé is an overall better vocalist.

I always feel like J Hud is yelling at me...she's a great singer but her voice is limited. She's spectacular at one type of music but she can't sing anything outside of that, beyonce isn't as good as JHud at the belting, powerful songs, but Beyonce can sing jazz, r&b, pop, broadway, etc...she can sing almost anything so you never get sick of her voice. Both are worth admiring & amazing at what they do.
Jennifer Hudson is a way better singer than Beyonce 100%. Beyonce uses echo machines and tries to hit notes she can't reach. She should just stick to dancing or modeling or something that doesn't involve talking or singing. Every time she sings it sounds like cats dying. I belive that both have different signatures, and styles of singing. and neither one is bad on my ears. If i had to choose which one was better? I couldn't because I'd be lying either way.

Just because someone sings higher notes or has a stronger voice, doesn't mean they're a better singer. The question is who is the better vocalist? Both can obv. sing! But one is a better vocalist, and that is Beyonce. And the main reason why is control. Control is THE main thing you need to have a good singing voice, because it 'controls' your pitch, tone, vibrato, etc. and that's the FIRST thing a vocal coach will tell you. When Jen works on that, and her tone she will be a supreme vocalist.

Well, Bey's music makes people feel good too. You can't use that as a way to judge whether an entertainer's music has soul or not. To be truthful, Bey(except for MJB) is the better "rhythmic vocalist" of the other two you named. And Rhythmic music is part of soul music(our music). You said that Bey only has heart, well is heart is part of soul. It's passion and yeah, Bey is brand but so is Jen and especially Alicia. They might appeal to you more, but they are pretty much the same coin.
What I think you're saying is that Bey don't have an "old school" sound to her tone, as say...Jennifer Hudson. Jen's tone takes you to church and is dramatic. More than Beyoncé's. Agreed. Bey is as "contemporary" as it gets but believe it or not, Bey is still(at this moment) the better musician at least vocally and depending on the song, I get more interpretative emotions from her than Jen, though that's not fair to judge because Jen is a newbie and don't have the music catalogue Bey has.

Sometimes I much rather hear gospel than R&B because some of these ladies don't bring strength to their voice. I think if Aaliyah had survived her tragedy, she would most definitely have the game on lock. She didn't have much power that I love, but she was charismatic and soulful none the less. I can count on one hand Beyonce songs that evoke emotion.
I hear what you're saying and this is a good discussion, for being mature and articulate in what you are saying. That's the beauty of R&B though(Sometimes I much rather hear gospel than R&B because some of these ladies don't bring strength to their voice), you have singers who come from the school of Aretha and then you have those who come from the Diana Ross school. And I used them because there were the female vocals of the 60s.
Not every singer in R&B have that "gospelesqe tone" but the beauty of R&B is that there are more moods and different tones needed depending on what the song calls for. But I do get your point though because Gospel singers can take you there, they are some of the most talented singers in the world and maybe times no knows who they are because they aren't in the industry.
Jennifer has the power, Beyonce has the control /technique.
Jennifer has the soul, Beyonce has the tone.

Overall its very hard to pick who is better since they both seem to be strong in one area where the other lacks, and weak in another area where the other shows strength. Its a classic apples & oranges debate to me. And mostly relies on your preference.

Jennifer Hudson has power, but that power gets away from her quite often. Power without control can be a problem. Jennifer Hudson can sing her ass off of course, but she is no match for Beyonce's control, vocal range, stamina, and overall technique. Beyonce is a high alto, low soprano where Jennifer is a strong alto, high tenor. It's really hard to compare the 2 vocally. Beyonce's voice is straight. She also has more years in the business so I can safely assume she has a vocal coach teaching control. Jen's voice is deeper with a more raw sound. Even when she is singing straight there's power. Jen has that "I've been in the church all my life" voice. I personally feel it more when I hear Jen sing, I'm more entertained with Bey.

I feel that Halle Berry is just as pretty and she has way better acting skills, which is way she has so many awards. I don't think you can compare these two voices they singer similar songs but beyonce and Coline Dion are more comparable they have been in the business for a long time and know their voices and vocally they are very similar.....in range and everything! I think anyone who says that Beyonce won this one is only saying that because they have been a fan of hers for a long time. JENNIFER WON THIS. She can not help the fact that God gave her a louder vocals. She can be soft when she wants to but extremel powerful. You could barely hear Beyonce in some parts of the award performance. She can scream all she wants because Beyonce tries and wishes that she could be just as loud but she cant. Beyonce is NOT the best at everything. Sorry people.

However, Beyonce has been singing professionally for 12 years and Jennifer is able to at least keep up with her and she's just starting her career. All I can say is that Beyonce won 3 Soul Train awards her first year with Destiny's Child and Jennifer won an Oscar and a Grammy. If you look at it from that angle, Beyonce can't even begin to touch Jennifer.

Jennifer has been professionally singing for 7 years now, so she's not really just starting. She may have the raw talent, but that's just what it is. Raw. I always feel like J Hud is yelling at me...she's a great singer but her voice is limited. She's spectacular at one type of music but she can't sing anything outside of that, beyonce isn't as good as JHud at the belting, powerful songs, but Beyonce can sing jazz, r&b, pop, broadway, etc...she can sing almost anything so you never get sick of her voice. Both are worth admiring & amazing at what they do.

Jennifer Hudson is a way better singer than Beyonce 100%. Beyonce uses echo machines and tries to hit notes she can't reach. She should just stick to dancing or modeling or something that doesn't involve talking or singing. Every time she sings it sounds like cats dying. Jennifer is good but she needs to work on her control but man can she belt those notes out.

Jennnifer has a stronger voice than Beyonce. But Beyonce has a prettier voice than Jennifer's and she can do more. Ive always loved Beyonce. But now she finally has some competition. I think Beyonce wins by a little bit :)

I think they are both good live. they both sing at different range as well. J Hud has a much stronger tone but Beyonce has that soft voice you like to listen to. They can't really be compared because of that difference, they both interpret songs differently and therefore sing them differently xx.

Just because someone sings higher notes or has a stronger voice, doesn't mean they're a better singer. The question is who is the better vocalist? Both can obv. sing! But one is a better vocalist, and that is Beyonce. And the main reason why is control. Control is THE main thing you need to have a good singing voice, because it 'controls' your pitch, tone, vibrato, etc. and that's the FIRST thing a vocal coach will tell you. When Jen works on that, and her tone she will be a supreme vocalist.

Well, Bey's music makes people feel good too. You can't use that as a way to judge whether an entertainer's music has soul or not. To be truthful, Bey(except for MJB) is the better "rhythmic vocalist" of the other two you named. And Rhythmic music is part of soul music(our music). You said that Bey only has heart, well is heart is part of soul. It's passion and yeah, Bey is brand but so is Jen and especially Alicia. They might appeal to you more, but they are pretty much the same coin.

What I think you're saying is that Bey don't have an "old school" sound to her tone, as say...Jennifer Hudson. Jen's tone takes you to church and is dramatic. More than Beyoncé's. Agreed. Bey is as "contemporary" as it gets but believe it or not, Bey is still(at this moment) the better musician at least vocally and depending on the song, I get more interpretative emotions from her than Jen, though that's not fair to judge because Jen is a newbie and don't have the music catalogue Bey has.

Sometimes I much rather hear gospel than R&B because some of these ladies don't bring strength to their voice. I think if Aaliyah had survived her tragedy, she would most definitely have the game on lock. She didn't have much power that I love, but she was charismatic and soulful none the less. I can count on one hand Beyonce songs that evoke emotion.

I hear what you're saying and this is a good discussion, for being mature and articulate in what you are saying. That's the beauty of R&B though(Sometimes I much rather hear gospel than R&B because some of these ladies don't bring strength to their voice), you have singers who come from the school of Aretha and then you have those who come from the Diana Ross school. And I used them because there were the female vocals of the 60s.

Not every singer in R&B have that "gospelesqe tone" but the beauty of R&B is that there are more moods and different tones needed depending on what the song calls for. But I do get your point though because Gospel singers can take you there, they are some of the most talented singers in the world and maybe times no knows who they are because they aren't in the industry.

Jennifer has the soul, Beyonce has the tone.
Jennifer is louder, while Beyonce has a wider range.
Overall its very hard to pick who is better since they both seem to be strong in one area where the other lacks, and weak in another area where the other shows strength. Its a classic apples & oranges debate to me. And mostly relies on your preference.

i Say Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer is better than Beyonce anyday. Jennifer is more fun but serious and imperfect while to me Beyonce is trying to hard. I like Jennifers style in music. even though beyonce has more control at times, Jennifer makes her uncontrolable rolls sound just right at times. And like Beyonce she doesn't try to be so perfect at everything.
