gotta be honest, this test is rather laughable. don't get me wrong...i'm sure that the ford is a good car, but facts are facts:

1) the cheapo ford taures is the one thats $20,000 less. it also has a weaker engine, and is pretty pedestrian.

2) the most expensive ford is gonna run you $40,000 before taxes. it has a more powerful engine, but...damn, $40,000 for a FORD?

3) after 5 years, the acura will retain WAYYYY more of it's value than the ford.

My 2005 TL's headliner fell down because the VELCRO tabs weren't installed properly, the glove box had to be replaced because it too wasn't built properly and the rear dash had to be re-done because of noise issues.

Keep those crap Acura's and keep spending more than they are worth. I'll stick to my junky Ford that never goes into the shop and is yes, quieter than your RL.

My dad had an '05 RL and loved it. I have serious doubts that the Ford is quieter. The RL is such a solid and capable car and is underestimated in its class, my only real gripe is its 5 speed. He drives a '10 E350 now and loves it even more, but the RL is still a very respectable car, its next redesign should give it some serious credentials.

First...i test drove the SHO, for almost an hour. Second, It is NOT a bad car at all, however, it is not in the same class as the 2006 RL i have when it comes to interior. Amazing Audio system (DTS surround), noise canceling, leather quality, soft materials inside...are all things that the SHO did not have and the SHO was fully loaded. The sticker price on the SHO was $43k!!! The dealer was cocky, arrogant and very firm on the price. I would never spend this kind of money for this car - never!

I've read in other reviews that it really is as quiet as a cat walking through the house, and it's platform is derived from the Volvo S80.....nice. i assume that you are new to cars. Well i will guide you in the right direction in what to judge. Turbos are bad in particular because of the chances of them over heating which also may damage the motor. the features that you mentioned such as abs, gps, and other little features can be put on side as a secondary necessity. The true components such as the heart ( he engine). Unitbody (frame/enclosures), transmission, and suspension are the primary and crits. Check out the JD reliability survey.

Well you shouldn't make assumptions because I am not. The chances of turbos overheating is pretty much the same as the engine overheating. The turbos are cooled well enough that they will do just fine. And yes I know the parts that you need to run a car, but if the only things people cared about were those things, there would be no luxury brands or anything of the sort. It would just be seats on a frame. And since that isnt the case, the interior plays a big part in why the taurus is better.
