  • Interesting List! After seeing Midnight in Paris in my local arthouse theatre Woddy Allen has become one of my favourites as well. My List would look something like this:

    1.Akira Kurosawa

    2.Hayao Miyazaki

    3.Chan-wook Park

    4.QT

    5. Martin Scorsese

btw No love for Jackie Brown? :(

  • Agree almost completely with your top 3 (I'd be tempted to put Tarantino above Nolan, and almost definitely would put Wright higher if he had a few more films under his belt.)

  • great vid 5/5.

  • Great video

  • Fantastic vid ben Quentin Tarantino would be one of my favourite directors too. Do you like Kevin Smith?

  • @TheMoviegeek82 I'm a fan of a lot of his movies, especially his early work, and I love the Askewniverse he's set up, but recently his movies have been a little bit on the crummy side. Also, I don't totally agree with his attitude towards press and such, he comes across as quite arrogant some times. Thanks.

  • @BMLRProductions I despise him. I hate Clerks, I hate Red State, I hate Mallrats, I hate Dogma, and I hate Jersey Girl, and his attitude towards film critics makes him even more of a douchebag. He's a jerk and a shitty filmmaker in my humble opinion.

  • @TheCinemaJackTV I think as a piece of filmmaking Clerks is interesting and entertaining. The way he managed to make something which is essentially two first-time actors talking about nothing for 90 minutes hilariously funny just astounds me. I like his humour style, but as you say, as a person he's a bit of a douche.

  • @BMLRProductions And that's where the problem lies for me: I didn't find Clerks funny at all. I thought it was dull and boring, and I knew what I was supposed to laugh at but could hardly bring myself to.

  • My top five (in this order) are: Martin Scorsese, Coen brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Hayao Miyazaki, and Milos Forman.

  • @TheCinemaJackTV Great list, Forman hasn't done much for a while though which is a shame. Thanks for watching.

  • @BMLRProductions Well the only Forman movies I've seen are Amadeus and Cuckoo's Nest, but they're both among my favorites so I can't not include him. :)

  • Well there you go, you have chosen some of my favorite directors :D great list.

  • @JorgeZelayanndia Thanks dude.

  • Great Video! :D

  • @moviemadjack Thanks.

  • Great stuff mate! great picks Edgar has a great style and you could tell how much Pegg and Frost missed that in Paul i think. Nolan is a living legend the man cant do no wrong every film ive seen of his i love cant wait for the Dark Knight Rises

  • @Bigal1982 Cheers mate, I can't wait for TDKR either. It's a really testament to Nolan that I'm more excited about the fact that it's a new Nolan movie than a new Batman movie.

  • Great list mate! Christopher Nolan is my favourite aswell. A few others I absolutly adore are Darre Aronofsky, David Fincher, Guillermo Del Toro. Thats in no order what so ever though. Great vid keep em coming! :)

  • @mrreviews1995 Thank you! Fincher's another I didn't get to talk about due to time constraints, I love all his work though.

  • Great and honest list. My top five is Terrence Malick, The Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

  • @EYESCUM Thanks, that's a great list also. Not a massive Malick fan myself but the others I'm also a big fan of.

  • Been a hard-core Tarantino fan since seeing Dogs for the first time at age 19. His energy is contagious, his sense of fun unmatched.

What do you mean when you say the Nolan is the "most idylistic director"? Won't argue that he's a fantastic director, of course. Memento, Batman, Prestige, Inception...quite a list of home runs.

Have you actually written up a Top 100 Movies list?

  • @CineRam And idylistic was meant like "idolistic", like the person I see most as my idol. I find it difficult to find forms of words sometimes when I talk quickly. I have a top 50 movies list, and a top 100 loosely based in my head, but I don't write it down.

  • @BMLRProductions - Constructing an "accurate" Top 100 Films list would be a big challenge for me. I'd have to go through a lot of lists I've written up over the years and weigh my choices carefully.

Or I could just write down the first hundred titles that come to mind and then alphabetize them. Hmm...

  • @CineRam It's tough even getting 50. If find myself saying a film is "one of my favourites" a lot of times, I mentally add it to the top 100.

  • I'm a rather listy sort myself...

Funny, I like The Fountain best out of all of Aronofsky's films. I was a bit disappointed by The Wrestler...I miss the old Aronofsky style.

Match Point is a fantastic movie, one of Allen's very best. I also quite like Bullets Over Broadway.

I've not developed a fondness for Edgar Wright the way a lot of other guys have. The only one I like wholeheartedly is Shaun of the Dead.

  • @CineRam I think it'll be interesting to see where Aronofsky goes from here, and there's tonnes of Allen stuff I'm still yet to see.

  • Those are some of my favorite directors as well. That's pretty close to my list, except Spielberg would be on my list. He's my all time favorite director and five of his films are the films that made me love watching movies. Great list! Nolan and Aronofsky are definitely two of the best directors working today. Neither have made a bad movie. Tarantino hasn't really made a bad movie either, but Jackie Brown is my least favorite of his.

  • @FilmRecall There's a lot of directors I didn't get to talk about due to the 15 minute time limit and Spielberg was one of them! He's got such a classic style and I loved his movies like ET and Jurassic Park growing up. Thanks a lot.

  • Love the nails ;) hahaha. My favourite Aronosky film would have to be The Fountain it is just amazing and moved me to tears, I love all of his other stuff too though. My favourite Wright film is probably Scott Pilgrim, although I adore Hot Fuzz, oddly enough when I first saw Shaun of the Dead I didnt love it, I felt it was over hyped but after more viewings ive grom to love it. Again love Tarantino his dialogue is genius!, But my favourite film of all time has to be Memento its just pure genius!

  • @michaeldonnelly92 The story-telling structure of Memento is what really gets me, no matter how many times I watch it it just astounds me with every single watch.

  • Glad to see some more insight into the styles of film you're interested in Ben; well justified and a good mixture of auteurs. Hell I might try doing this as my first finished film list for the channel. :)

  • @InvidNinja92 Thanks, I'd love to hear your picks, there'll no doubt be a lot more strange and interesting.

  • the number 1 director of all time is alfred hitchcock

  • @Gencturk92 kubrick

  • @Gencturk92 I judged this in times of those which I favour best. I'm a fan of a lot of Hitchcock's work also.

  • Realy love your vids man :)

  • @PlainLazyXD Thank you.
