@northsideqirl Oh okay. Diana - Paul Anka Venus - Frankie Avalon Tall Paul - Annette Funicello Won't you come home Bill Bailey (The Pop Years - Part one) - Bobby Darin Tutti Fruitti - Pat Boone Put Your Head On My Shoulder - Paul Anka Swingin' on A Rainbow - Frankie Avalon Slip Splash - Bobby Darin -------- I can' tell who it is nor can I hear the lyrics. oh dio mio - Annette Funicello My Home Town - Paul Anka Paper Roses - Anita Bryant That's all - Bobby Darin
lets take a look at todays teen idols {closes eyes}[sees Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Lindsy Lohan] OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?!?!?!?
@Catilac65 To begin with - refinement went out the window with language like you are using. We didn't talk like this in the 50's and we sure wouldn't have put God's name with the rest of what you did!
I loved every clip in this great video of the 50's teen idols. So many of these singers have been my favorites ever since I was a teenager. I am now 51. Most of these songs are some of my favorite songs of all time. Those clips of Annette singing Tall Paul and O Dio Mio were my 2 very favorite clips. I always have wanted to see Annette sing the full versions of those songs. Thanks again for posting it. Sincerely Jay
These Boys were gentle men. there weren't singing about how much money they had or how many girls they can sleep with. they were singing about lost love and how beautiful a girl is. (not hot or sexy, but beautiful)
I was born in '84 and I love oldies doo-wop, I vaguely remember driving in my moms old Honda listening to the oldies station. seriously I wish I could go back, don't we all. KID KYLE, look him up, i think he's 15-16 years old and he does all covers of oldies, great voice
I'm young but I think those were wonderful years:music, cinema, clothes, style... Nowadays we have lost that and there are worse things (another subjects are better, of course)
@NintendoDSVampire As I said another subjects are better nowadays, but this can't avoid to recognise those wonderful songs and movies... just because you're black it's not a reason to dislike the fifties style.
There's nothing wrong with being heterosexual and white. Also, women had it made in the 50's because men had to earn the money and the women just had to spend it. Men were expected to be gentlemen, open doors for ladies, pay for everything, and women got to stay home and spend more time with their families. Plus 50's rock'n'roll ruled with the Killer and the King, no lame azz hippie folk songs abt "give peace a chance". They were too busy on dance floor and in the backseat to care about protest!
This is from ABC's "Coke Time". It aired June 27, 1960 and was hosted by Pat Boone. The guests were Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, Edward Byrnes, Bob Denver and Anita Bryant.
Good job, you gave good coverage to some of the great teen idols of my time. It's such a pleasure to see clean cut singers, minus all the tatoos of today, so unecessary.
oh my goodness, all the teen guys in the fifties were so well cut and clean. Or really hot and tought and leather-bomber-jacket-totin. Not these skinny-jean wearing flamboyants we have now
The fifties rock... and if you want some rockin food at a 50's theme cafe go to a place called Yesterday's in Bridgeport,Texas ...came across it recently and just loved it... check it out for yourself!!
Paul Anka's original version pronounces Diana as Di-yan-na. Later he re-recoded the song and pronounced it without the New York accent, as simply Diana. Not as good. This compilation looks like it was designed to sell a Golden Oldies album via TV advertising.
Not really, there were dark, complex things in the Fifties- how about the Cold War, Korean War, virulent racism and anti-semitism, the denial of educational and work opportunities to many women, imprisoning gay people for their private lives, denying civil liberties to black people, like the right to vote etc etc.....
I love each and everyone of these songs! I got to see Frankie Avalon perform a few years ago, and he actually don't look much different than he did back then! Thanks for posting this! :0)
Anita Bryant sang Paper Roses in 1960. She became Miss Oklahoma in 1958 and was a second runner-up in the 1959 Miss America beauty pageant at age 19, right after graduating from Tulsa's Will Rogers High School. She now lives in Edmond, Oklahoma
I'm very impressed that you knew all those things about Anita! I thought only pageant fanatics, like me, knew all that! I have that pageant video at home! Mary Ann Mobley won that year, one of my favorite Miss Americas!
Anita Jane Bryant (born March 25, 1940, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma) is an American singer.
She is widely known for her strong views against homosexuality, and for her prominent campaigning in the mid-1970s to prevent gay equality - specifically her successful move to repeal a local ordinance in Miami, Florida, that prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Bryant is a member of a conservative church congregation affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. (Wikipedia)
