  • In Japan, there are over a 1,000 true Hip Hoppers who only stick to the originality of its culture. Most young black and Hispanic brothers and sisters don't even seem to realize that.

  • haha i agree, the only reason this book got made was because some loosers in london wanted to make a "trendy" book to go on all the coffee tables...

    Whats cool?

'Graffiti' and 'japan' = easy money!

  • yea Racgaki is better then american graffiti if i say. but he is really good. and i want to get the boook now, i just went back to tagging i stop for a min cuhz the cops got me, and my brother so its time to go on walls now.

  • Both Japanese and American graffiti are good. The only difference is the style. Both countries have their dope writers and toys. Nothing is better than the other.

  • I was only referring to those who did piece even its in the Sugaraki-Cho Hall of Fame in Yokohama.

Like Kazzrock for example. Ok he's been commercialized doing interviews and shit but he did got up back in the days.

  • No I'm not offended. True that I haven't even been to Japan but I got fascinated with the scene since I live in Asia and Japan is one of the pioneers of the Asian graf scene.

  • until sakakuraicho closed down 2 years ago, most of the pieces on the wall were old and crap by normal graff standards, it was hardly ever painted and the styles was US.

  • i perfer racgaki than american graffiti

    Respect!

  • i saw this 30-min doc a few weeks ago, while i was skimming thru the book; nice to see the relatively insulated japan catch up with this worldwide phenomena (i.e. tagging, stencils, graffiti writing) and adapt it their own peculiar way. exquisite photography, yet too much emphasis on time lapses. all the cities mentioned seemed to have their own style of graffiti writing which was nice, inasmuch it allows the viewer perceive this phenomenon in all its unity in diversity trait. nice.

  • nice video, you know how to do...

but i got a question: why do japanese witers don`t use the japanese kind of letters? i think that would be some kind of interesting developement in graffiti...

  • some do but its harder cus english u can see some letters wen there all styled up but in japanese if u change some parts thay will read as a differnt word intirly and u realy cant find symbols for graffiti names unless its a word like SEEN or COPE also thay could be going with graffiti tradition and keeping it english cus thats how it started, u hav to know ur history not to be a toy, or other small reasons

  • ok, thanks

  • If you watch the whole documentary, Very1 states that it's easier to get your name noticed overseas if you use alphabets but there were times when he would switch to using Katana lettering too. For them the more stylish letters come from the English alphabet and find them easier to write.

  • You mean "katakana". Anyway, Its different now. I'm Filipino and at the same time, I'm Asian. Asia is known for the use of characters whether its traditional Chinese, Hangeul, Kana, etc. I used to do my pieces in English / Latin alphabet but recently, I've been doing my pieces in "alibata" which is the traditional Philippine alphabet. Its the same with some fellow writers in HK that prefer doing their pieces in Chinese. It gives us an Asian identity. On the side of Very, I give him props!

  • Wow thanks for the info! You write in the Philippines? I'm filipino too from an island in the visayas called Aklan. I just moved to California about a few weeks ago though and I do admit I am very toy lol. May I see some of your work? :) You've gotten me interested in this "alibata" alphabet and I'm guessing it originated somewhere in like Quezon Province?

  • Very-1 and Dist actually painted in The Philippines, in Manila. Me and my crew painted with him when they were here. If you want to see the flix, go to the Manila section of Art Crimes.

Both are one of the most prolific writers in Japan along with the SCA crew. Kazzrock though was the pioneer though he does more commercial graf.

  • yeah, we respect all certain styles. stop the hate and paint. flip-one is a graf pioneer here

  • They are prolific at opening their mouths and going to magazines and spreading the same photos everywhere. Busk is only writer in Tokyo who paints a lot but keeps his stuff secret.

  • Oh wait you have some in your channel lol sorry XD

  • tagging sucks

  • nigga u aint shit

  • Isn't it suppose to be "Rakugaki" ?

  • Yes, "Rakugaki" is the Japanese term for Graffiti but the Japanese writers eventually used the word Rackgaki which originated partly from the graffiti term "Rack"

  • ill. I'd like to see more

  • dope

  • SECOND! just passing by..

  • FIRST! nice jap graff
