The Allied Effort was a joint affair, different countries took the strain at different times, all I've got to say is
a) British Paras didn't carry a reserve until '56 at Suez, different to Americans, what was the USA or Russia doing in the summer of 1940, and I wonder what the Yankee paratroopers would have done if they had 2 Panzer Divisions to cope with at Eindhoven & Nijmegen.
Monty should have listen to are underground , the reported german tanks, second why i gods name took the 82nd not bridge but the hills at nijmegen ?????? Why???
It's from the movie 'A bridge too far' directed by Richard Attenborough.
Richard Attenborough should be ashamed of himself.
The movie is a lie. Guards Armoured Division stopped just beyond Nijmegen because 1. It was almost dark. 2. all infantry were still securing Nijmegen town and 3. they had to rearm and refuel.
Jim Gavin (82nd) should have taken Nijmegen town or at least the bridge on day 1 (17th sept) or day 2 (18th sept) - (AS ORDERED)
so they really filmed this scene with all those paratroopers thats amazing these days its CG for a scene as good as this
