@TheKiwiSniper You did hear the parts about possible applications right??? HUD's, gaming, information relays, health monitors, flexible displays etc. You are probably the same person who would have said LCD monitors are useless when they first came out.
@TheKiwiSniper um use your brain. this can be applied to car windshields, where gps can be utilized in real time, and of the real roads in front of you. so an arrow can guid you, without you having to look at another screen.
are videos/pictures only on "surface" or is possible to do thick transparent version and to see real 3D graphic objects "inside" this thick transparent glass ?
future 3d head mount display(eyeglasses type) must require this technology I believe. people around you would not notice that you are using your glasses as a display, I think only one side of the panel can be used as a display, the other side must be thoroughly transparent.
this is going to be the future of the display,,, at work and home,, i remember in the movie matrix revolution, the control working by touching what seems to be a transparent touchscreen display. Shit, everything we see in Sci-Fi is becoming real. This display can also be applied to smartphone or devices that use a lot of augmented reality like jetfighter's helmets for eg.
@browndt yes but why? The screen is transparent, it is absolutely useless! It is not like 3D or hologram or whatever, it is just a transparent screen, it is ridiculously useless.
@MegaEliteMan Because your screen could also serve as one of the windows in your house/apartment, or a heads up display in your cars winshield (no more looking away from the road to glance at a speedometer or GPS), or a heads up display in a pair of glasses, or any of the other numerour places to put a heads up display.
Im sure that they will be implanted with the transparency to be either more or less. But look at that! ITS THIN AS PAPER and VERY portable and FLEXIBLE! iPad move over. Im sure soon enough it will have video calling. this is a concept model from January 2009. And as early as 2006 their prototypes emerged on YouTube. maybe this has been in the works since 2003. I think now it's ready to be commercialized now that it's catching up.
@lazzer408 Ignoring that such a screen is much more complex than simply "pulling the diffuser", then why did you play dumb and ask what the breakthrough technology was? If your comment was supposed to be sarcastic, implying this technology is nothing new, then your sentence didn't reflect that sarcasm
@lazzer408 You can do better than falling back on not addressing any of my points through faux condescension, can't you? I realize that ad hominems are enough to incite the average youtube user, but, come on, really? If my points fail, say how. If they hold but you disagree with them out of stubbornness, why the ad hominem?
@FinalStrife7 My first post was meant to be sarcastic. Thank you for giving me the answer to my second post. There's very few "technological developments" that I find impressive. It's "neat" but serves humanity no purpose. We have larger problems on earth to deal with and inventing more toys doesn't solve any them. Look behind the curtain.
@lazzer408 I'm aware of the perception of novelty in such advances. I guess I still view breakthroughs from a mid-20th century viewpoint (I'm 24) when the public was much less desensitized to them by computer graphics, at which point these days the breakthroughs are having to catch up to the "reality" they've been given in the media. Either way, this device certainly won't end world hunger, but the possibilities this kind of thing opens up are myriad and that alone is impressive (to me).
if you put that display on the motorcycle helmet. you can have navigator that doesn't distracting you. What about information board on the road for passenger. show window, medical usage...ext.
When they make a frameless/beveless version of this @ 24" i will certainly know I am in the future... I felt like this the 1st time I spoke to a popular search engine to look things up for me... Our generation is lucky... wonder if we will live to see true AI???
@jgt2598 yes, i know and many times saw, but the black areas on this display seem too dark (any way it is cool) but i think it would be much better with a little improvement
There was a time James Bond would present a breaktrough technology of a watch witha cam built-in. Now, the spy is having a hard time to keep up with the everyday new techs.
exelente tecnologia. vai ajudar muito, ou criar problemas que nao tinhamos. isso pode ser usado para simular um dia lindo na sua janela OU uma cortina. ou um gps no parabrisa.
This could make the 'Mission Impossible glasses/sun shades' a reality. Once again science have shown that what have been considered "science fiction" in the past are now 'science fact'. Cool to see! 8)
Or have a night vision camera mounted on the hood, in the middle of the windshield, or above it, then have this see through screen overlay the whole windshield, and at night, it would display nightvision over everything you see.
It's very simple. It's like a HUD, with GPS' now they hang off the window inside or sit on the dash and you can't see through a car GPS, this HUD type system allows you to see through it. Just like a HUD in modern aircraft (military/civilian). This is awesome technology!
They use basic one colour green OLED screens in military aircraft for guidence ect. But I think chicks doing gym in colour are better than missle guidence info.

This is Briliant,it's what i have been waiting for for ages .With this technology you
could create virtual objects in rooms .You put a pair of clear glasses on so u can see
the room but now we can create an image of an object in the clear lens .And with
Position sensors in the room to track the postion of glasses the image can remain
in a fixed place in thhe room .A VIRTUAL 3D object in REAL space that you can walk around .
