WALL E has a robot, Short Circuit has a robot, that's about the extent of similarities. By that logic, no one should ever see Star Wars because it's a rip off of Star Trek, Titanic is a rip off of the Poseidon Adventure, and our show is a rip off of Wayne's World. Wait, that last one's probably true...
-it's gonna feel like a dreamworks movie if there's off color jokes. that's their realm...
-they make kids movies too.
-and they don't know how to make a kids movie, they make awful kids movies.
-they just make awful movies.
LMAO.
oh and i agree with Ken. Pixar shouldn't branch out cuz it'd be way to weird. it'd be like the Coen brothers doing a G-rated movie...sure, could they pull it off? probably. but who would want to see that?
hahahaha, i actually started to write those words "g rated david lynch movie" and then i was like...wait a sec...lol. but SEE!!! he did a G-rated movie and it was horrible. point proven haha
Ok, first of all Dreamwork can make kids movies because they made Shrek (Pixar didn't do that). Anyway I think that Pixar should just stick to what they do. They're not meant to make adult movies. p.s. I respect your guess's opinions, but I disagree with you two on two things, There Will be Blood, and Juno. Juno was great! (I will admit thought the fo shiz thing was kinda stupid) There Will Be Blood was unberrably boring!
From an artistic standpoint a PG movie has more complexity but from an economic standpoint kids films fill two (parent and kids) seats where adult films mostly only fill one.
The incredables had adult themes. The main character thinks that his family was killed; Also it's pretty hard to keep it kosher when most of the characters are in spandex.
Disney and Pixar are all about money--point blank. They should make movies for adults because that would be awesome, but they won't because movies aimed at kids generally make more money. Kids are less discerning. And the lower rated a movie is, the more asses they'll get in the seats.
I disagree. The biggest movies of all time aren't G rated family films - Titanic, Jurassic Park, LotR, Spider-man, Pirates of the Caribbean: all PG-13. If Pixar wanted to make more money, a PG-13 movie would be the way to go. The fact that they stick with G rated movies says they are more interested in telling certain types of stories than making the most money possible.
Except that you're only looking at the extremes. On average, PG-13 movies are more likely to be failures, where even failed kids movies are guaranteed some haul. G films are the movie industry's safest bet.
I don't think the Pixar minds are capable of making an "adult" movie that would appeal to me. Therefore, I don't think they should make one. I agree with Ken, if you don't like Pixar's movies as they are right now, you're just dumb.
The Simpsons and Family Guy have been successful using animation for adult themes, so I can certainly see Pixar entering this venue. The writing would then come into question. Does Pixar have writers that have the comedic abilities that are necessary to deliver a rated R or PG-13 punchline, or are they computer geeks with comedic sense and timing that appeals to kids and the kid in us? Writing is the most important and most overlooked part of entertainment. That's why the WGA was on strike.
I completely agree with josh. Pixar has shown they have a lot of talent, they don't make crap (like say Sharktale). I'm very sure if they tried a more mature (to pick a word) story it would be absolutely great (like Waking Life or Perseplos... which i haven't watched) Topics: David Lynch (genious or just crazy?), crapy movies that another director would have made perfectly (like the phantom of the opera being directed by tim burton).
You guys both have interesting points. Personally, I think it'd be neat if they went a little more darker to warrant that PG-13 rating just to see what that would be like. I believe Pixar could do it. However, I do believe that the movies Pixar are making right now do touch upon themes that adults can relate to despite the movie looking like a "kids movie".
An interesting topic for you guys to talk about would be the whole "real sex in movies" topic. There's a lot of mixed reactions about that.
I'm going to agree with Josh on this one. Ratatouille was on my top 10 last year, but it's not a movie I'm going to go back and rewatch because it's too light for my taste. Have either of you seen Princess Mononoke (my favorite anime)? They need to make something like that.
They already do. Me!

WALL E or whatever looks so gay. It looks like a rip of SHORT CIRCUIT and that movie was balls.
You guys should have your own public access show.
Your the perfect formuala: One's edgy, one's not.
One's dull, one puts you on the edge of your seat.

Sadly, this is probably why Pixar will never go in this direction. But I can dream.

Finding Nemo sucked and The Incredibles was overrated but ok.
Ratatouille was excellent though.
