Howard will retun to the planet MARS from which he came. Saturday is the day he will board his spaceship hidden in the bowels of the Lodge & go back to what he truely is a MARTIAN from another planet.
No, that was how the Australian accent sounded 30 years ago. I noticed it sounded different from aussie movies back then. Sad cause it shows that we are changing and getting molded by multiculturalisation.
But what defines the sound of an Australian accent? The accent today is Australian. The accent 30 or 40 years ago was also the Australian accent. Point is, things change in time very sutley which is why the aussie accent had a touch more of Brit than it has today. And 100 years ago it would have had a touch more Brit than 30 years ago. Remember it started as a British accent.
as no accent, if it changed any bit from what it is today, (whether that means closer to a Brittish accent or further away from a Brittish accent), in my view that would be an Accent.
But that accent John Howard was talking in there didnt sound even similar to an Australian accent (from my ears), it sounded totally Brittish, ??
bob hawke was older than howard but had a far more ocker accent than howard has.
its got nothing to do with you're xenophobic worries about multiculturalism
go to brisbane and then go to adelaide and see the differences for yourself.
adelaide had huge migration from scotland during the 50's and now their accent has quite a different sound to it then a far north queensland accent does.
we always were multicultural thats how the british accent mixed to a aussie accent in the first place.
did anyone notice that 70's upper class british accent? Compare that to the bogan accent he now has. The only australia who still speaks like someone from the UK is Malcolm Fraser.

Ok so we have only sounded Australian for the last 30 years or so?
Before that we sounded Brittish?
I don't think its sad at all because I would rather sound like an Aussie than a spoilet little pommie anyday!

O well, to me it sounded like an old fashion aussie accent, like Brian Henderson back in the 60s.

Australians have always sounded Australian by the very fact that they're Australian.
