Funny even though his vioce is gone he sounds better than those who pass for singers now. The music and talent of Steely Dan is timeless. They are a tight band much like how Little feat is tight . Two completely different styles but both great. Stan Kenton of Big Band jazz made a comment about Steelydan when playing at Towson State in the positive. He said they had a jazz sound that surpassed anyone else. I used to see him every year.

The original guitar work on the studio album was performed by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straights). His style can't be copied very easily. Becker does a good job though.
Man, Fagen's voice is really gone, isn't it? On all of these live clips from the 2000s, his voice sounds faint and weak, and he's relying completely on the chick singers to carry the higher notes.
He also sounded terrible when they did Do it Again at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame show in 02
Oh, well, that happens sometimes to singers when they get to be 50 or 60 yrs old. Bummer, though
I will say this... That is one of the chewiest Rhodes tones I have ever heard in my life. I still havent heard a Rhodes on a live SD recording sound as good as that one does... WOW!
Corney was the best band sax player ever. The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and others just lack that little edge of perfection he provided. Peace Corney.

They opened with this one in Orange Beach, Ala. 19 Jun. Best live show....ever. 13 real musicians on one stage. I just wish they could get Chuck Rainey back on the bass.

Funny even though his vioce is gone he sounds better than those who pass for singers now. The music and talent of Steely Dan is timeless. They are a tight band much like how Little feat is tight . Two completely different styles but both great. Stan Kenton of Big Band jazz made a comment about Steelydan when playing at Towson State in the positive. He said they had a jazz sound that surpassed anyone else. I used to see him every year.

The original guitar work on the studio album was performed by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straights). His style can't be copied very easily. Becker does a good job though.

Man, Fagen's voice is really gone, isn't it? On all of these live clips from the 2000s, his voice sounds faint and weak, and he's relying completely on the chick singers to carry the higher notes.
He also sounded terrible when they did Do it Again at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame show in 02
Oh, well, that happens sometimes to singers when they get to be 50 or 60 yrs old. Bummer, though

I will say this... That is one of the chewiest Rhodes tones I have ever heard in my life. I still havent heard a Rhodes on a live SD recording sound as good as that one does... WOW!

Corney was the best band sax player ever. The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and others just lack that little edge of perfection he provided. Peace Corney.
