You need to palm mute and alternate pick man. learn as many songs as possible.when you feel creative start learnin basic theory.

Youre holding the pick all wrong. At least it looks like it to me. Have a look at Paul Gilberts instructional videos, there is one in which he explains how to hold the pick.
