  • Did that old fart just say the sex was consensual? A 13 year old girl CANNOT give consent! He drugged and raped a minor! Period. And if he wasn't an acclaimed filmmaker, NOBODY would be jumping to his defense and making excuses for this creep! Roman Pedo-lanski did the crime, and if there was any justice, he would do the time.

  • you all seem to forget that just because you defend a person who happens to love children (e.g. a paedophile) you don't become a bad person. in fact it is very likely to be the opposite because at least you undertsand that he had the right to a fair defense and a fair trial but the original case was so badly handled that it is doubtful whether he would have been convicted or not. It's not like justice was served and he fled then.

  • Oh great, two rotting old people who support a child rapist, underage yes, consensual? absolutely not. The old fucking bastard was happy to be in a film and because of that is willing to gloss over the fact that Roman is a kiddie fiddler who took advantage of a 13, 13!!! year old girl and sodimized her. But he makes films so thats ok? Put these two old miserable excuses for human beings in the nearest enthunasia clinc please, and do roman while your at it.

  • fucking queer pedophile.

  • of course he get off hes a jew

  • Definitely not consensual when you give a young girl quaaludes and champaign at thirteen she probably weighed less than 90 pounds i'm sure she couldn't even move but she did repeatedly say no. And polanski continued to rape her and sodomize her. If a girl is slipped roofies is that rape? cause i'm pretty sure it is. I have a friend who it has happened to and it is debilitating the fear, and trauma inflicted is incredible and this was a full grown woman. A child would be changed for life.

  • Two wrongs dont make a right. Roman Polanski admitted that he drugged, raped and sodomised a 13 year old girl. The confession is available online.

The judicial system intended to try him also proved utterly corrupt.

This doesn't mean he should be freed. He should face justice.

  • Polanski...GUILTY! A practicing satanist? It wouldn't shock me.

  • FREE ROMAN POLANSKI

  • There wasn't a trial. Well's the DA recanted his story, and Polanski has openly stated his, "penchant for young girls," The doc fails on accuracy.

Polanski does plead for himself, several clips are posted on youtube.

  • Cut through all of your BULLSHIT reelgeezers and the case is simple. Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old child and then escaped from prosecution. All the distorted spin, all the redirection of blame and all of the history of Roman Polanski, his family and anyone else involved or not involved is irrelevant . Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old girl. He must face justice as would anyone and everyone else who committed this crime. End of story.

  • Whathoney.. I would agree with what you say. Well said!

  • the judge wanted to be on TV

    how pathetic

did he care about the victims???

  • He is NOT a pedophile. He just screwed a girl who was not in any way a virgin.

  • The age of consent in France is 15, and in many other European countries.

Pedophiles fuck prepubescent children. This girl was not prepubescent. Polanski had a reputation as a womanizer, he had no fixation or history of being sexually attracted to children. Besides, Samantha wasn't a child.

  • @maxigoestohollywood ... she was 13, drugged raped and sodomised. You consider that appropriate? Scary that you're not the only one who thinks so...

  • @maxigoestohollywood Mate, she was 13 and stoned, no?

  • @maxigoestohollywood Hello McFly ?!? Polanski slipped quaaludes to a 13yo girl and waited until she couldn't move to sodomize her while she's begging him to stop. How the hell do you know his history? Did you follow him around to every Beverly Hills party? Is everybody freaking retarted here???

  • @maxigoestohollywood Your a fucking peadophile

  • as an ignorant he may not know it for sure

  • funny how they only talk about, critisize the trial and not the rape. one gets the impression, juristical misconduct is worse that analraping a 13-year old. and why to they lie? it wasn't consentual. they seem to suffer from dementia.

  • When you give kids champegne and qualuudes and fuck them it's a crime. If you do this and flee prosecution than you need to come back and face the music(jail time). If he would have been a man he would have gone to prison and appealed the case if Roman is such a victim. Poor Roman in his 40's fucking drugged 13 year olds he's a great artist' She was just a 13 year old Ho. Give me a break.

  • What a fantastic advertisment for 'Lets make Child Abuse legal. Gosh, I can see how girls abused would not want to tell anyone, when you get people like this encouraging it.

I hope no-one leaves any children with you. I wouldn't put it past either of you 'Go for it'

I suspect many more girls were abused by him but darent come out after what happened to this girl.

  • mais il est innocent, ok? Il est genial est une artiste du beaux arts!

  • Questions from your review:

What do you mean it was consentual? What about a 2 year old who says YES is that OK?

    You need to explain!

If your BIG enough ... Your OLD enough?

What do you mean? What is BIG enough?

Is their no such thing as child abuse in France?

  • OK, firstly, please dont use the "2 year old" argument, its weaker than a paperbag. The fact is she NEVER consented to it (according to her which is most likely true), and its quite scary that these people said that and that people will think that. I dont understand why make the docu' if they werent trying to make him out to be either a devil or nice guy, seems pointless.

  • It;s funny how if this guy had not been Roman Polanki then it would be perfectly reasonable to YELL at the top of yur voice 'Kiddy fiddler', kill him and throw away the key. How many average men and women get the opportunity for their crimes to be glossed over like this. We would be up in arms. I wonder, I really do... if this had been a young boy, woud we be just as understanding???

I am really frightened listening to this...! Have we lost our mind?

  • Marcia, you had a hand in The People vs. Larry Flynt ... thank you so much!

i dunno about this documentary, felt a little like a reunion show with no other point but to drag polanski thru the mud again. i didn't find that much new insight. It was well made tho, Lorenzo easily the best part of it, you stole every scene!!! :)

  • I've heard the same sales pitch by HBO on Polanski. Many of us are not buying at any price.

  • Consensual? Please. Children are not capable of consent, you jackass. Thirteen years old is a child. You aren't even done developing physically, much less emotionally and mentally, at thirteen. She's probably still got Barbie dolls at thirteen and he's giving her Quaaludes and alcohol so he can put his dick in her. Disgusting. I'm ashamed to have been a fan of your reviews up until now.

  • The judge may or may have not been problematic, and true or not this does not excuse Polanski's behavior and lack of accountability. And he can excuse his behavior because he has been recognized by France? This was not consensual ...drugs and alcohol were involved ...let's get real or let's not play.

  • France was great in recognizing a Master of cinema and a victim of a retrograde american legal system and the frustrated fame hungry not so little girl after all. get real!

  • it was not consensual...according to the victim, polanski gave her champagne and quayludes...and then raped her...while she said no...he is a pervert

  • This goes beyond doddering geriatric ignorance, this is vile apologism. The sex was not consensual. The only qualification the girl ever made was that she only protested and never forcefully resisted (I'm not sure how one could on a combination of alcohol and quaaludes anyway)

The wielding of unprofessionalism in the court and media to enable romantic belligerence and libertine chauvinism in the person of a c-h-i-l-d r-a-p-i-s-t is so pathetic that only a documentary can make it seem otherwise.

  • Although I'm not a law student, I did one of my written examination for my doctoral degree on the Sociology of Sex. The crime Polanski is accused of commiting was having sex with a minor or statutory rape. A minor is defined as a person under the age of 16 years old. In most Western countries, this crime is considered a felony and punishable with up to 20 years in prison.

  • In the US the age of consent flucuates from state to state but is generally 18.

  • Although the victum said she consented to the act, this does not allow the accused to go free, because the accused was neither the victum's spouse nor did he ask the parents for persmission. Because the accused is an adult, he should have acted more responsibly based on this role.

  • when did she ever say that?

  • @Bedtimeband:

There were several docus in which the victum stated that she had forgiven Polanski and that she was no longer pressing charges. It appears that Polanski paid her damages out of court. This is one of the reasons the case was not pursued. What has changed, are the new laws that protect minors and forces the authorities to investigate even unsettled cases from the past. Please remember that rape is a felony: it is on the same level as cocaine possession, murder and armed robbery.

  • If both parties agreed to the act, but charges were still made against the accused, then a judge or jury would decide the punishment. Depending on the situation, this means that the accused could walk free, be fined, receive a reduced jail sentence, community hours, therapy or a combination of the various fines. Despite the chance of not getting a fair sentence, Polanski should have appeared before the court to answer to the charges, regardless of the case being broadcasted on television or not.

  • I absolutely don't understand all of you guys who say that Polanski didn't take responsibility for his actions. I'm not a lawyer, I don't know what is the penalty in american law for having sex with minor, however Polanski was inprisoned for three months, after which he was promised to get a suspended sentence. He gets out of a prison and all of the sudden it appears that the judge who is working on his case is so self-concentred that he has his own scrapbook.

  • Anyways - he was willing to take the punishment, but a justifull punishment. And that's what all this is about.

Nowadays celebrities evade penalties (or don't get any, like Paris Hilton) for driving while being drunk - is risking other people's lives lesser crime than having sex with a minor unknowingly?

  • And one more thing - Polanski always've been a scapegoat for a press. Someone who you can easily bash down.

After savage murder done by Manson family, the press acused Polanski with it. When it got clear that he couldn't kill his wife, the tone of the articles became from "psychopatic killer" to "when you make movies like this you have what you wanted". It's sick, don't you think?

  • he was never promised a suspended sentence...the 3 months was for psych evaluation...do you think 3 months for a brutal rape is justice??

  • Psych evaluation in a penitenatiary? Ok. As for promise - I'm quoting his autobiography. Of course that promise was probably off record, however...

And how the hell you know it was brutal rape? AFAIK girl didn't have any signs of violence being used on her.

  • sorry, but an adult male engaging in sex with a minor under 14 is a brutal rape

oh, and like polanski is going to tell the truth in his own autobiography

i wonder how many more young girls he raped

    there was natasia kinski...thats one

  • They would be to scared to say!

  • he was ordered in for a 90 day psych eval...i dont care where it occured...he was in for a total of 45 days...do you think he should have gotten no further jail time for raping a child??

  • As I recall she already wasn't a virgin by the time she had sex with him - why didn't her mother accused whoever else got sex with her first?

But yeah, probably all 14 years old girls are walking innocence, unaware of their own sexuality, even if they lie, that their mothers let them participate in slightly erotic photo-session.

And another example - I've heard about a guy in Texas who was sentenced for molesting his daughter and all he did was giving her bath You think it's also brutal rape?

  • so because she wasnt a virgin and was alone with a 43 year old man who was taking pictures of her, that means she deserved to be drugged and raped??? you are a sick human being...polanski admitted to having sex with her...he is guilty and if he ever comes back to america he should be tossed into prison so that he can be gang raped by bubba and his pals

  • So, to sum up, you've run out of arguments, because you didn't even try to answer any of my questions.

You won't let the other side talk and defend herself, ok... But using this kind of thinking will get you to many misleading conclusions, for example - all soldiers who killed during the war should be sentenced for first degree murder.

  • so you bring up some absurd case in texas and im supposed to comment? did he also fuck natasia kinski when she was 15?? this man has a prediliction for little girls...he ran away from the long arm of the law...did you see his interview where he basically says that all men want to bang little girls?

  • Please 'Sir' do not excuse this man by putting forward that this girl was not a virgin!

Number one... How do you know if she was or wasn't a virgin?

By your reckoning when a 'child' is 'vulnerable' as a result of bad parenting no man who subsequently takes advantage of her deserves punishing. Why wait until she is 13? What about 3,4 or 5 after all some children are particularly percocious! Funny this is the most frequently cited commentary Paedophiles use!

  • Please dont say brutal rape when there was no brutality involved (and such a random word to use). Also, dont excuse his actions because you think his short time in jail justified it.

  • I love Polanski's films. He has always been one of my favorite directors. I hope someday he can come back to the states and make some movies over here.

  • Its an interesting review, I don't side with Polanski or the documentary or the Reel Geezers but I am always open to hearing different opinions. And as always these two bring up interesting points. So, thank you.

  • I enjoy your reviews, but this one was biased toward Roman Polanski based on Lorenzo's relationship with Polanski and work in the film. Although you don't come out and say that Polanski is innocent, I feel that Lorenzo especially glosses over what happened: Polanski had sex with a minor.

  • This is the last response, i'll post here, but to play devil's advocate, maybe those days were different. It was the 60's after all. Kirk Douglas wrote in a memoir that a teacher seduced him when he was 14.

    Again, I don't justify a crime, but there's a context to it.

  • kirk didnt grow up in the 60s

and it is never ok to rape a little girl...or a little boy

  • EXCEPT IN PRISON

  • Kirk wrote he was seduced by a teacher??? SEDUCED, not raped, most boys over 12 pray from some action.

  • Regardless if it were rape or unlawful sex with a minor, Polanski should have acted responsibly in regards to a minor. That he walks free shows how unjust the system is. As for his parents, watch West Side Story. A poor childhood, doesn't justify breaking the law.

  • That the victum forgives Polanski is irrelevant. After all what was she to do after making a poor judgement, because she was a child and dídn't recognise what was going on. Add this on to the miscarriage of justice by the State and the refusal of France to extradict Polanski, the victum can only try to forgive-not forget-the whole affair and move on with her life. That nothing happened to Polanski is a scandal. That the world admires him is freightening in the light of the Kinski Affair.

  • I don't think that people have forgiven Polanski, I don't forgive Polanski, but I can look at it as a whole, I can admire his goods and his bads, he's a man who endured a lot of pain and suffered a lot in his life. His parents were taken from him and killed, his wife was murdered. He was banned from his adopted homeland that he loved.

I think that as a society we are unforgiving of people who commit a crime, and I like that with Polanski, we are willing to see the whole.

  • It's not up to YOU or any other "people" to forgive Polanski (exception: the victim).

  • Its like the whole OJ Simpson thing, if he'd served his time it wouldnt be much of an issue, but by avoiding it, things get worse.

  • "That nothing happened to Polanski is a scandal. That the world admires him is frightening in the light of the Kinski Affair."

That nothing happens to Henry Kissinger is a scandal. That the US admires and celebrates him is frightening in the light of his responsibility for the horrible death, mutilation and suffering of millions in Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor, Argentina, Chile and maybe elsewhere.

There are much bigger and more putrid fish to fry than Polanski. Let's start with those.

  • I like your show very much and have worked in the past with Marsha...a very fine lady....

However...I wonder how your review would go if Mr. Polanski had sex with your 13 year old daughter, grand daughter, niece etc.You wouldn't give it the time of day. I don't think you'd be telling your family that "it was okay...you know it was consential". C'mon Marsha...Lorenzo.....They're are film that need your talents much more than this subject.Keep your dignity.

  • I don't know how the "what if it was your daughter argument" applies here, the mother and victim have both forgiven Roman. If you wouldn't have forgiven him, than you clearly are coming from a different place than the mother of the victim, and should respect that.

Honestly, I don't know whether they've forgiven Roman in their heart of hearts, but from what I've read the thing that seemed to damage the victim most was all the publicity about it. Roman stioll did a bad thing.

  • Polanski raped a 13 year old girl, Samantha Geimer. How is sex with a minor consential? I like you folks but it seems people like you enable people like Polanski to rebound and not pay for thier misdeeds because of their talent. If Polanski had been a regular joe he would be branded as a deadbeat pervert, but because he is an "artist" then raping an under age girl is some how a pecadillio to be glossed over? Despite the problems with US Judicial system, Roman should have payed for his crime.

  • No, that's because the sex was consensual. You're misusing the word "rape." I don't think it's ever ok to label someone as a deadbeat pervert. People make mistakes, some of them awful mistakes, but that doesn't define them for life.

Perhaps, Roman should have paid for his crime, I agree, however.

  • Tell me how a 13 year old girl fully consents to sex with an older man and it not border on rape or at least heavy handed desire on the part of an older man who desires little girls. Are you saying that a 13 is ready and willing, and should, have sex with any partner they choose?

  • You shouldn't have used the term "I agree" in your last sentence.

  • Hi, Steve. You had a few grammatical errors in your post: consensual vs consential, their vs thier, peccadillo vs pecadillio, paid vs payed. When asking a question it is improper grammar to use the word "but" as you did in the sentence, "If Polanski had... pervert, but because he is...?"; by using "but" the question becomes a statement. A sentence cannot be both question & statement. You should also have capitalised "regular joe"

    (a proper noun).

  • yes, polanski is a great artist, however, he still committed statuatory rape and ran from justice...what was the injustice done? who knows, maybe he wouldve gotten off just like r kelly, maybe not...but doesnt change what he did

  • Another great review. Keep up the great work. Reelgeezers is one of my fav channels on YouTube.

  • I absolutely adore you guys.

Roman is one of my favorite directors.

afewgoodclips, I don't agree with you about Chinatown, I think the ending was perfect, like the rest of the movie.

  • i saw you in the Doc and got all excited because i new you as a reel geez

  • If this happened today 40 years in jail. If they couldn't get a conviction theyd railroad him into a mental institution or harass him til he killed himself. His movies always miss the mark. Chinatown was almost a classic but the end was so rushed that it lost it's grace and pacing. He always drops the ball at the end. Rosemary's baby, for example. The mother once she realized that the baby was the devils child, should've killed the baby and then herself. Always just shy of the bullseye that guy.

  • This is a tight review, I never knew any of this

  • But we want to know what movies you've been in.

I remember the day well. It was frightening times and the authorities felt as though they were fighting for the future and safety of America. They were badly mislead. They were certainly strange days. And even to today, I realized that I had held terrible bias toward Polanski for his deed which I had possibly misjudged him for. Thanks for this vid.

  • Awesome!

  • You're a very nosy fellow, kitty cat.
