@nekoboy86 "and by being forceful and very rude and disrespectful about your theories, which you will also deny, where or what do you hope to get?" -- this is a question aimed at yourself, i wont deny that...
perhaps in your unawareness you have fallen into the darkness.
i made a some points based on the facts of the video. then i concluded with advice. that is 'polite'. again i also mentioned in my last posts this (read). i want to go to heaven, not be a follower or a leader.
@wanwaimeng i have detailed in my intial posts ( a series of posts commentary to your video) in which i detail where you have made self-contradictions in your words.
i do however agree philosophically with the comments you make in the last few minutes of the video, i think from 18 mins in.
however: from 15:00 i agree. to be within the protection of dharma is to resist creating negative karma for oneself. to take responsibility for ones own life and trial, and to triumph in doing so and doing good works. to grow and not poison ones own environment by ones own negative growth.
it cannot not matter what level of equanimity you are if 1) there are levels 2) the objective is to reach equanimity 3) if you are to preach equanimity to others.
it is the individuals desire to reach equanimity or to force others to that state. it is an attachment.
if it is to be a genuine action by your words, then the work you do for others, should encourage them in a way that is not necessarily complementary to your wishes. -- to teach what you teach is thus false wrath by your own words.
enjoyment from benefit or offer 'is' an attachment. as is empathic response to others sadness or happiness an attachment.
to claim deity does not see a difference between oppression and peace and equality is perculiar to say the least. the former induces the sadness in some, and happiness of others by attachment, the later spreads only equanimity among all people.
you should consider the validity of what you are preaching more, instead of preaching unaware of that which you speak of.
@nekoboy86 better yet is your assumption that i have even assumed i have authority over other buddhist figures. -- have you watched the video?.
the self contradiction is as i have already described. short of what comes after 15:00 (which i believe he has been proffesionally taught) the rest is simply his deductions to earn face and respect for 'self gain' -- ego.
@daenumen i was present in person during this talk.
"you should consider the validity of what you are preaching more, instead of preaching unaware of that which you speak of." pretty much yells "what you preach must follow MY standards, or you're clueless of what you're preaching". I wonder who wouldnt 'assume' that you are trying to project your authority?
notice other than me no one really bothered about your thesis and admire your intelligence right? you should thank me for reading. :)
@nekoboy86 your interpretation is wrong, well its not an interpretation its an extrapolation based on assumption...anyway.
1. read about freud "Freud discussed this model in the 1920 essay Beyond the Pleasure Principle, and fully elaborated upon it in The Ego and the Id (1923), in which he developed it as an alternative to his previous topographic schema (i.e., conscious, unconscious, and preconscious). " -- it is a 'model'.
2. read the points i made --self contradictions he made.
@daenumen no matter how intelligent you are, you will NEVER have as many followers as Rinpoche. Save your breath and start your own center or write your own book.
@nekoboy86 never have as many followers as Rinpoche? well at least you admit that he desires his personal gain. i dont want followers as i said in my last messages...'read'(?).
so keep following Rinpoche and 'be shown' where it leads, in your unawareness you forgot your sight ^^.
@nekoboy86 3. understand what a self-contradiction is -- ie a comment that in relation to another comment made by the same individual renders both comments irrevocably incoherent and although the topic matters of the two are related the relations made to that topic differ and oppose in each of the two comments.
4. it doesnt bother me if you or anyone else doesnt realise this, or care to realise it. afterall you seek to be 'unaware'...i dont -- forget meditating go have dreamless sleep.
@nekoboy86 the comment you have copied of my relates to the advice drawn from the conclusion of analysis of the comments made in the 20 minute video. GO AND READ THEM AND COMMENT ON THE SUBSTANCE OF MY ARGUMENT if you have the mental faculty, which at this point i am highly doubting, infact, your manner is more geared around disseminating my comment than making a constructive descussion. i am beginning to see a lack of expressed ability on your part to perform the later.
@nekoboy86 instead of trying to gain 'apparent' face by defacing others (as i have mentioned your method) why not gain some actual face by being constructive.
i made several constructive points initially that you responded to, and i made constructive points that this person can work upon. if i were trying to deface him i would have pointed out his incorrect grammar and spelling. i did not.
as someone who takes guidance from a misguided person like himself, i dont expect you to understand.
@nekoboy86 however, the initial part WAS for sake of his ego, i KNOW you wont respond constructively, there is no EGO gain for me (to use the terms he has taught you, that you might understand, though fain shall you, for his constructs were erroneous.).
its clear you have very little understanding of these things, or how to formalise a debate. i would recommend that you go and read what buddha wrote and find who enlightens by his light. afterall, buddha himself was enlightened. then talk.
if people being 'numb' is a bad state, then your definitions should encorperate helping them, not abandoning them. a person is numb when they turn to unawareness. a person is numb when they cannot escape the oppression they face. yet you would help those oppressing them for your own good, to the permenant detriment of those who are turned numb, and encouraging the 'egos' (as you define) of others?!.
it is neither needed nor fair for others as you 'force' them (by your words) to be driven by the 'ego' (as you have defined).
if you wish well and happiness and help those who are harming you, you are not only harming yourself, but you are encouraging others to deny their equanimity: you are harming others, and hence you are not acting in equanimity (as you defined).
you are simply being closed minded and unaware. both are in opposition to meditiation.
again, the ego is not to be unaware, and neither should the natural mind 'be unaware'. if it is unaware, then it will too be unaware if the 'ego' (as you have defined) has been defeated or not. to submit to that unawareness, leaves one unaware of that also. you cannot simply sweep the problem you define under the carpet and claim that one should always be helping others ie choosing slavery unto the rest of the world.
in this sense, again, any emotional response is in support of the ego (by your definitions) including what 'may' be observed as 'divine' as it becomes a personal relation when empathised.
equanmity is not to be 'aloof' (neither here nor there, happy or sad) it is not to judge others for their emotional responses to what happens in their lives and that others can respond emotionally to others emotions. it is to be accepting that what is is what it is, not ascribing judgement of right or wrong.
my point here is that. if everyone beats their ego (as you have defined it emotionally responding to their own situations be it good or bad) prevents this 'devine anger' and 'devine joy' from others as there would be no one to empathise towards; hence there would be no means by which to express the beating of ego except by denying emotion.
if one is empathic, and responds empathically, that emotional response 'becomes' your emotional response -- you affiliate with those people/race/family.
sorry i disagree. the 'ego' is a construct, not actual.
the ego is described as such as being the mode by which the id, or the self is satisfied. for someone to be selfish or selfless both are through the ego performed on the external world. to respond emotively or logically does not define the 'size' or 'strength' of the ego, it is empathy; to relate to others emotional response emotionally.
by your words: to deny the self's 'ego' denies others from being empathic or 'beating their egos'
the word is equa'ni'mi'ty - ˌi kwəˈnɪm ɪ ti (ee-kwuh-nim-i-tee, ek-wuh--nim-i-tee) what is this equinamety he keeps talking about? Am I supposed to become a horse?
Actually a fantastic bit by him. I love this video, his talks are so straight to the point, but the persistent use of 'equinamety' kept bringing me back to horses... :o)
He is absolutely right about suffering without suffering!! He is an amazing teacher!!
@agentmommy Equanimity is not being numb, not caring. With equanimity well if someone treats us in a harsh way or in a kind way , we neither develop hatred or attachment to it. Why? Because the harm or the kindness came from a cause. Plus those who harm us now, may have been our best mates in a previous life, and those who are kind to us now could have been our worst enemies for many lifetimes past.
hence there is no need to develop an extreme position to whatever we experience does that help?
Could one impress onto large numbers of individuals with the sole use of equanamity? And can one stand up for what divine is or another gesture with nothing more than divinity?
it seems a lot of emotions is playing games with you dude. you have spoken enough, now its time to turn your eyes inward and have a look at yourself; a deep look. i say this to you with compassion because you have 'ngon pe nga rgyal'
I've yet to visit their Nepal branch... where exactly is it located kungpaoch1ck? I plan to go to Kathmandu some time this year if all falls in to plan.
Yes Liz his institute is in Petaling Jaya - Kechara like what kungpaoch1cken said. He's a Tulku recognised by H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama. You can read his bio on tsemtulku. Quite interesting as this Tulku was not born on a silver platter rather his spiritual path was faced with many challenges. He was sent away to foster families in US instead of the usual straight to the monastery. I guess that's what makes this Rinpoche easy to relate with. I like his unorthodox approach when he teaches :)
This is the first time I've come across a Dharma teaching that is so profound and in fluent English! I am so selfish for that I am sorry. But Tsem Tulku - Thank YOU for incarnating back to teach in English! I wish I've found you a lot sooner. Btw does anyone know where he is? I'd like to visit to get more teachings.
Thank you Rinpoche for yet another profound teaching! I hope to be able to one day achieve equanimity. Most people like myself only understand it by theory but yes applying it takes a lot of effort. It is wonderful if you have a support group that helps one another and support each others progress. Kechara House community has the most perfect environment for anyone who wishes to really practice. I want to move to Kechara !!! Soon!
An enlightened quality of equanimity is not indifference or having no feelings or not expressing emotions as some people may think. Hence, high Lamas can experience emotions and will not be brought down by it or not be distracted by it.
Do you know what is the difference between indifference and equanimity?
Indifference arises from self-cherishing mind and we remain unmoved and unwilling to act and show emotion because we are thinking of ourself and either because we don't want to be vulnerable or we think the person is not worthy of our reaction.
Equanimity is for others and we always return kindness despite receiving harm and we always remember people's kindness.
yap7128: yes...equanimity means you are not affected by harm and instead of returning harm, you return benefit instead. That is the highest level of equanimity. Rinpoche is one excellent example as his childhood was full of abuse, difficulty and strife. Instead of becoming a bitter person, he became a monk and a Dharma teacher and he often use his pain to bring joy for others.
this is a great teaching, one which i personally listen to more than once, it is not a hard lesson to understand, it is a hard lesson to apply in our lives, because we don't stop and think about our responses enough , thankyou Rimpoche xx
Brilliant teaching! Rinpoche has does it again, i found another angle to attack my self-centered ways. I shall contemplate about it when I do my Sadhana afterwards.
What an insightful teaching, another great one by Rinpoche. I just found out another amazing thing...Rinpoche's organization has websites and activities packed with Dharma! Just like Rinpoche's teachings, the organisation's activities are really dynamic! Check it out... kecharahouse(dot)com
Okay folks listen up! There's another fantastic and teaching, called "The Enemy Within", about the duality of our ego; how extreme happiness and extreme fear all arise from the same thing. I've been editing & working closely with that teaching in KMP's next book and it is absolutely one of the most classic Tsem Tulku teachings that everyone should see. Downloadable version is at neonlamaDOTcom and you have have have have have to go get it!
this is really scary, now everyday i check for ego and its fully there, i want to get rid of it but how. Its all about me me me, and now Rinpoche says that even the ego can get in the way when we receive gifts, or when were really sad. Being sad and depressed is sooo amazing because it really is our minds playing tricks on us. Whats the secret to getting rid of it? Just doing everything for others, to help others is so foreign? why would that work, can someone help to explain???
Amazing teaching on Equanimity... Devine Anger is totally new term to me... Oh my road is still so long bcuz my ego is so strong... always feel numb... hehe... Right... check my mind, check my mind...
I have learned a different approach to understanding equanimity better. Rinpoche has superb communication skills making me able to understand this concept! Thank you Rinpoche.
Here is another very simple and logical extract from Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's teaching: "if you have a long way to go, you should go that long way, because if you don't, that way stays long."
This talk gave me another insight. Quotation: "tears can be ego and anger can be compassion - anger can be ego and tears can be compassion - it depends on where it arises from."
Oh that's a good one! All about our motivation. Like when a mother scolds her child for playing with fire, it's because she doesn't want her child to be hurt, and wants to teach her child the danger of fire.
Therefore Rinpoche is like a mother to a child, scolding us for not practicing patience when we are shouted at. He is like a mother to a child when he chides us for egotistical crocodile tears.
If we value our mothers' teachings so much, then we should value Rinpoche's and the dharma's too. After all, the benefits of putting into practice what the dharma teaches is, lasts far far into the future...all the way to enlightenment!
"Self-deception arises from laziness (15:06) ...so true. When we make excuses for not fulfilling our commitments, it is due to laziness and we fool ourselves into thinking we have 'better' things to do. Thank you Rinpoche, for teaching us about the different faces of ego.
I've never thought about it that way before, that when people cry and athankful when you do something for them...I always thought it was a sign of gratitude, but Rinpoche's words make me think about it differently...he makes me think about the motivation and the root of the crying.
Yah ekwong12, I def agree...our ego so sneaky, will manifest in so many ways to 'protect' itself. Means we got a lot of work to do to change, must always watch our minds all the time.., good thing Rinpoche is there to teach us dharma but for how long he will be here??? We need to start now.
Yeah that's why I'm so happy the YouTube videos are back online! With the Internet everywhere, I feel like Rinpoche is with me always! And for once, the Internet is being used towards such beneficial ends :)
Thank you for your sharing and teaching. Greatly appreciate your teaching.

After all, the benefits of putting into practice what the dharma teaches is, lasts far far into the future...all the way to enlightenment!

it is also very important to control the anger, and not to create further negative karma for ourselves by getting revenge!

True! true! self-deception or self denial - that' my ego. Thank you for opointing it out. i will try to catch it next time before it surfaces.

"Self-deception arises from laziness (15:06) ...so true. When we make excuses for not fulfilling our commitments, it is due to laziness and we fool ourselves into thinking we have 'better' things to do. Thank you Rinpoche, for teaching us about the different faces of ego.

Thank you for that glimpse over the different dimensions of the Ego. It's very helpful!

I remembered watching one of the videos of Rinpoche, our ego is actually one of the main causes of our sufferings.

so...meaning to say whenever I get overwhelmed by emotions it is actually my ego speaking? I will need to be more mindful of myself!

Amazing teaching, combining different angles and approachs to one of the major subjects in buddhism training, equaminity.
HE Tsem Tulku is always a surprisingly teacher!

if your happy it may be ego, when ur sad its ego, all the emotions are ego...
What makes it divine is if its for others and not yourself. So how to enjoy the fruits of your labour if its all ego?
cannot right? or am i wrong. can enjoy but without attachment.
