@BAIYUE1 Maybe you're right……But we people in the southern part of Fujian province always think Minnanese as an ancient Chinese language and a language to connect the Minnanese overseas and at home.
Minnanese or Hokkien now disappear in everywhere in the world, many hokkien in SIngapore,in Malay,in Vietnam can't speak hokkien.Even in Taiwan which has 75% population has origin Hokkien, hokkien reduce from 75% to 30% who can spwak fluently hookien, other only understand can't speak,or worst is speak Mandarin instead hokkien. In Taipei(Taiwan),only speak Mandarin.
Even in CHina,in Fukkien home of Minnanese(hokkien),chinese mandarin call it is dialect and encourage Mandarin
@BAIYUE1 Yeah, I know it. But in comparison with the Guangdong dialect, our Minnanyu has not our own system for people to learn , which is a shame and weakness, however, I love Minnanyu, and especially when I leave my hometown and live in a strange city. It's great to blend in the people from different part of the country but keeping your own feature is also very important, I think. Hope one day Minnanyu can be carried forward. I am too ready ro say, maybe.
But I don't know why we can not write in hokkien^.^Such as,Mandarin and Cantonese can write both!!Maybe The Government should encourage people use it!!
hokkien when properly spoken (or sung) is really beautiful! problem is, when spoken in malaysia or singapore it gets bastardised and corrupted, thats why it sounds like shit. by the way whos the original singer of ths beautiful song?
Dear Timi2highlander, thank you for uploading this very lovely Hokkien song. Although I did not understand the intent of the song, the music score is excellent. My wife speaks Hokkien but I am an idiot as far as this dialect is concerned. I hope to learn it through songs and other means. I am English-speaking so it would be great if you provide the phonetic transcriptions in English. I hope I am not asking too much. By the way, what is the title of this song? Not "Hokkien dialect 2" I hope!
This is a sad song...typical of many of the Taiwanese popular songs. Eric Moo, from Malaysia, is the only singer that I know of, who sings in Hokkien outside of Taiwan. Are there others?
YES, there are a few more. Many Malaysian & Singapore singers can sing in Hokkien / Taiwanese, just that they dun cut any album in the language. They only sings at concerts or stage shows only. I will send to u some names of singers that had released some Hokkien album in the past.
I kind of really like this language...but for some reason, I don't like hearing it spoken. It sounds very dry but when there's music....wow, it's like Korean but better!!! Or maybe it's just few songs that really makes this language stand out??
I like it spoken the best. Tia liao si bei song. When u hear the hokkien spoken in Singapore, the speaker sounds so powerful unlike those Chinamen, speak mandarin like Ah qua!!!
thats because hokkien is NOTHING like marndarin, i speak tewchou. its very similar to hokkien n taiwanese... its actually hardder to understand wen they're singing.. X_x
Even as a Mandarin speaker, I find that it is very hard to actually try and recognise any of her words. For example, I have heard the word 的 pronounced as something like "eh", so that it's very hard to pick it out.

Mandarin was taught for Hokkien children although hokkien is also Han chinese as Mandarin, but hokkien has not right as Mandarin.
Only CAntonese has their territory, hokong which teach Cantonese for children in school.
Or only Cantonese has enough power, famous to prove with people in world that Cantonese is language, not dialect as Mandarin call.

Guangdong dialect, you want to mention to Cantonese?
Yes,I know they have 3 wrting system :1,chinese wrting system which was taught for all chinese
2.Cantonese wrting system which is pictograms also, but only Cantonese understand it
3.Cantonese latin character
I thing Cantonese is language,not dialect.They are truly language.Ok.
CHinese always misunderstand about language or dialect.Cantonese is language ,not dialect.

@BAIYUE1 The Minnanyu to be a dialect, and the Guangdonghua to be a language? It's the most unbelievable theory I have ever heard of. HAHAHA

Belive it or not.
Every one now call Mandarin and Cantonese are different language.
Dialect is wrong term to mention 2 language: Mandarin and Cantonese.
