2. There is no need for the power of a 1k on the road. The extra torque is nice, but it also means you never even get to be in your power band. Rev out first gear and you're already going upwards of 100mph. I ride a 750 and would honestly consider dropping down to a 600. It's just no fun not being able to play around IN the power once in a while without being in "fuck this is jail time" territory.

But to each his own I suppose.

@jared1527 the insurance for mine wasn't too much more, just depends on the company and how they price it (by name, cc, cruiser, sport bike, etc) and driving history. I can ride in the power band on my zx10 no problem. Yes, you can hit "jail territory" very quick but part of that has to be thinking where to go those speeds (country vs. city streets). While I can see your views on it for some people, I am just plain old stubborn and always want more power.

you can really tell the difference between the GSX R600 and the GSX R1000. in another video with the 1000 a guy got up to 166 in first, and here the guy was pushing it pretty hard to get it to 180. still a tremendous bike. i'd love to own one of these.

ok so take a few mph's off the top speed and just say 170...For a 600cc bike, thats rediculous in the time it took to max out top speed! so not only does the bike way about 20lbs less...but the bottom and mid range tourque is much improved!!! I went right from an 07 750...and hopped right onto an L1 600 and felt that the 600 out-performed it.

@TuTuShangada Speedo is off a minimum of 8%, I guarantee it. My girlfriend has an '11 GSX-R600 with an M4 slipon, PC-V and custom map. That bike does not have enough power to break a true 170mph, not even close. The wind resistance at that speed is horrendous. I need to get a GPS on her bike and go see how much the stock speedo is off, but based on the 15 streetbikes I have had in the past 6 years, I am betting about 8%. putting actual speed about 160mph.

@evo0713 That sounds about right. Her 2011 600 only made 105hp at the wheel with the slipon and PC-V and a custom dyno map. Granted, that was with only 300 miles on the clock so the motor has since broken in a bit and picked up a couple HP, but that still isn't enough to hit a true 170mph with stock gearing. And making the gearing taller would actually hurt top speed on a bike that only has that much HP.

These are definitely fast ass bikes. Don't go by the speedometer, though. Unless they have been modified, I think that motorcycle reviewers generally clock most 600's in the 155-160 range, although other factors play a part. Remember that most motorcycles are notorious for having exaggerated speedos. Even manufacturers admit that they are not very accurate.

1st - 82mph (11 sec of video)

2nd - 107 (13 sec)

3rd - 126 (15 sec)

4th - 145 (18 sec)

5th - 163 (26 sec)

Not that it matters much anyway because we are talking about "indicated" speed. Albeit, It is actually quite impressive thinking back to my 600 10 years ago. @erik3154 - What could it do with a bore job you ask? It could wear out faster and not perform as well as a GSXR 750. For the money, I'd just buy a faster bike.

Speedos are never accurate and always over estimate (have to by law in the UK). This is a UK bike so no it does NOT do 176mph...probably around 170mph actual.
