Need Frank Darabonts SALEM'S LOT. He did so well with his 3 King adaptations. The tv movie didn't do it justice. Early Stephen King full novel that needs to be done properly.
I never thought of Near Dark as a vampire movie, if felt to me more like a different take and what vampires are supposed to be and that its kinda more like a desease that can be cured and i liked that idea.
new moon is actually a pretty great film. it's weighed down by people's too cool for the room preconceptions but as far as romances go, it's a very very satisfying watch. most people will judge it without seeing it.
Interesting topic. I hope we get a part 2. This genre has got lots of cool films since the 80´s. Nice to see Jeff fired up and ready to go. Congrats to Mike!
I haven't seen the Blu-ray fortunately but Lionsgate's cover artwork for Near Dark is *TERRIBLE*. Like they're trying to make Near Dark appeal to the Twilight crowd. You're much better off getting a used copy of one of the Anchor Bay DVDs.
Congrates to Mike.. Bout time a new show came out.. This episode needs a part 2 as there are more vamp movies you didn't talk about like the grace jones 80's movie Vamp.. Which i dig.. Fright night 2.. Not as good as part 1 but still decent.. Ect. I've only found out about your show recently but i gotta say they don't seem long enough and always seem over before they start.. If they are really once a month then you guys should do like an hour long show!
One of my favorite modern vampire films from the 80s is Tony Scott's The Hunger, which features Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon and a wonderfully quirky role for David Bowie. The film sort of has "art house" aspirations that are perhaps not fully realized but it's wonderfully stylish and moody... and who can forget that opening scene with Bauhaus, like it's trying to be an erotic Daughters of Darkness for the post-punk set. Wonderful!
Twilight does suck. Great vampire choices fellas. Two more vampire movies that kick ass are FROM DUSK TILL DAWN and John Carpenters VAMPIRES. We need kick ass vampires back on the big screen!!!
It was nice to hear the mentioning of Strange Days, I actually sent in a request for them to review it once, and mostly agree with the problems about it's ending.
I kinda feel about the Twilight series the same way I feel about Sex and The City: it's nothing but eye candy (guys with Twilight, clothes and lady-talk with SATC) with little to nothing beyond "flashy" imagery. There's literally nothing to like about Twilight (stupidity and illogic reign). And YESSSS, you talked about NEAR DARK, my favorite modern vampire movie.
I liked the remake of FRIGHT NIGHT quite a bit. The script was much more complete than the original. Not putting down the original; I will always be nostalgic for the original. But there were a lot of plotholes in the 1980s FRIGHT NIGHT, and I was very uncomfortable with the idea that Amy is Jerry's reincarnated girlfriend. With the new one, it seemed much more complete and thought out. And I loved that Jerry was a malicious vampire. It was scarier.
I hate twilight, i seen for the first one, hated every minute of it. But i have to say, my sister has seen all of them and she hates them too, but i agree with her when she says she doesnt blame the poeple who make the film or write the film she blames the lady who wrote the books and shes read all the books as well and she even said there even worse then the film.
check Let the right one in - it has subtitles, but is a great vampire movie.

National Lampoon's Last Resort starring the 2 Coreys is possibly the worst movie ever made, imo.

@CarrionBlack Very true. It's worth picking up the Anchor Bay DVD for the cover alone.
