@fekinel I did just this, the low number of signatures is rather depressing. However, I am not sure the petitions I read where couched in terms that would appeal to a broader section of the population ,one of them seemed quite hostile , which is fine by me because I'm quite militant. I think a newer petition with more carefully crafted language might broaden the appeal and get more signatures.
Don't be emotional dear friend. You tube is a public place to express our thoughts. As you have got right to speak against God and Jesus. Also I have got the right to speak against atheism and against people who deceive many from behind the name of Science. Atheists have nothing to do with science. In-fact atheism is different kind of religion, they believe in aliens, big bang, evolution without proof. Quantum physics, biology, chemistry don't defend evolution but you defense atheism by them.
Christian claiming of "Persecution" is not something new! The power of the Church created and maintained pretty much that way! They prescecute everyone else -even each other- for more than 1600 years because of 300 years of prescecutions by others! Is it a coincidence that the 60% to 80% of the Christian Saints were lived and martyred from 1AD to 313 AD?
How many atheists in America think they are being persecuted by Christians? this is another example of sheer hypocrisy..and most of what's being said here is false as pertains to Christianity
I do give extreme sympathy for all the Christians who are being persecuted and slaughtered in an act of genocide in Burma, but the people over here who claim persecution because other people want to talk shit about their religion and put it in check ... well they can go fuck themselves. Lets send them over to Burma and see what it's really like to be persecuted.
That's funny. I listen to mostly christian radio when I'm in my car (for the lulz) and some pastor was talking about christian persecution just a little while ago.
@dancingnancy09 You may not have met many atheists. Atheism and open mindedness are not hand in hand, just as religions do not hold a monopoly on homophobia or the persecution and/or ostracising of homosexuals.
@57worldwide Ive met hundreds of atheists- I am an atheist and I come from an extended atheist family and have attended quite a few atheist conventions- and religions do have a monopoly on homophobia- its pretty much the basis of it- the bible and the quran actually outline the requirement within thier faiths to be homophobic!
@dancingnancy09 Abrahamic faiths may nurture, and foster, homophobia; they may promote, and condone, the ostracising and persecution of homosexuals. They do not hold a monopoly on homophobia. Do you know what a monopoly is?
You imply that homophobic people are religious. It's a ridiculous claim. While some religious people are homophobic, not every homophobe is religious, or got their prejudice from religion.
What you have said is akin to 'racial bias is a monopoly held by the KKK'.
@57worldwide yes of course I know what a monpoly is do you? and yes there are many non-relgious peopole who harbour homophobia- I do not imply that ALL relgious people are homophobic however when you consider that at LEAST 3 of the main relgions of the world incorporate homophobia into theier relgious doctrines and make it a required element of a followers belief system, if a majority of followers adhere to this requirement- then religion holds a monopoly on homophobia- not absolute its general.
Those religions would only have a monopoly on homophobia if homophobes all belonged to those religions. You have stated that there are non religious people who harbour homophobia - which is stating that religion doesn't hold a monopoly on homophobia.
There is homophobia inherent in those religions. That is not what I'm disputing. I'm disputing your assertion that majority = monopoly, which it doesn't.
@57worldwide look up the definition of monopoly - I HAVE you dont know what it means- it means to have dominant control-it does NOT mean 100%-look it up! Now- if most of the worlds homophobes are religious-which they are, and they are homophobic because religion tells them to be, then religion is creating and controlling belief system of homophobia-hence having a monoploy on it. This has little do with the fact I still havnt met a homophobic atheist-unless youre one. Were done thank you.
@57worldwide BTW- I never stated that majority= monoploy that was youre mistake in interpretation- i have found youre arrogance exceptionally unattractive- I also find this discussion redundant in relation to my original comment and any further engagement would be a awste of both our times- I sense that you are the type of person who will ignore my request to leave me alone, therefore i have now blocked you so i wont be bothered by you anymore-send all the insults you like i shant see them
@dancingnancy09 I never explicitly insulted you. In fact, all I did was try to point out the error in your statement. If you think correcting an error is insulting, I don't know how to respond to that. I don't feel like you deserve an apology just for being arrogant (and incorrect).
A definition of monopoly: exclusive possession or control - tell me, where did you get the definition that it only meant dominant control?
I do know people who are atheist and homophobic. Your statement is false.
Gaining power by playing victims! That is pretty much a Christian creation! That happened with "consantinopaulican" christians -the christians after 3rd century! They elliminated the real judeo-christians and they used them as martyrs to gain power! Is it an incident that the 85% of Christian Saints lived and died between the Crusification of Jesus and the regimes of Constantine and Theodosious -both "Great"?
i love Argentina! (my country) day by day we are doing a more just society.
equal marriage (by law), gender defined by self-perception (by law), free universal health care, free education from KG to university. very good standards of human development...
I hate to say this is an example of selective memory and confirmation bias. I'm pretty sure the hosts knows that hundreds of thousands underground christian in China, for instance, have first hand experience of persecution. Funs be ware, if you guys just supporting stuff said on the program mindlessly you are doing the same thing as the religions people whom you are opposing.
I don't fully understand the Christian / conservative supremacy logic as it applies to persecution. Who in their right mind can think that expanding your rights to others, with no change to your own rights, is persecution against yourself? They should at least be honest in their language.
@AURORACELLIAULOS Saved us? If there is a God—and it's the biblical God—then He's the one that created the damn mess in the first place. Funny how He creates a being (Lucifer) knowing full well that it's going to fall and tempt the first humans into sin. It's like constructing a building (humans) knowing that it's vulnerable to an earthquake (temptation/sin), but you still build it, and then you go ahead and create the very damn thing that causes the earthquake. Doesn't sound "godly" to me.
@Scyntist You blame the one with no blame who created everything perfect and gave you the freedom of choice the choice that you can use now to freely curse of serve him but he created everything well and with no curse, pain and only gave us the knowledge of good. When Adam and Eve sinned they gained the knowledge of good and evil and so we have the knowledge of good and so you all do as if you can live forever and live without God.God is the one that can take away the suffering that is
@AURORACELLIAULOS I blame the one with no blame? Uh, no, I have to call bullshit on that. God is supposedly all powerful. God is supposedly all knowing. He made good AND evil from his own will.
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" -Epicurus
@Scyntist in the world and restore it to paradise and yes he knew Lucifer would do it but does that means that he made Lucifer become selfish and want something that was not his does that excuse him.The building has a choice whether to cave in to that earthquake and damage itself since it was given anti earthquake mechanisms. It chose to turn it off as its create said that the day you turn it off you will surely fall and you say that it was the creators fault. The earth he created but
@AURORACELLIAULOS It's very depressing how you make ad hoc excuses for a god that is so incompetent—so flawed, and so contradictory. He opposes sin, but yet he created the beings that have the ability to do so, and as a defense to it, you try to pass it off as "free will". Sorry, but when your choice is either "believer me and be saved or burn in hell", that's not a choice. That's a threat. That's creating a tyrannical system that's disguised as free will.
@Scyntist It is very depressing for you making excuses because you want to do as you please and look for excuses to make God out as incompetent(you have been watching to many dark matter videos by the way) and flawed when you have not even tried to get to know him. So would have like it to not be able to choose, you would have like being like a robot and not being able to choose your wife, who you loved and who you wanted to be.It is a choice of stay in a mess or come out of a mess.It
@Scyntist is after all your choice and one for the better where you can see God and live and be able to love him forever as we are being capable of loving and give our best out of love.
@Scyntist if the earth was Lucifer and God was the Sun and the earth was created but the earth tried to be the Sun and then it would try to expand have earthquakes which it was not supposed to and that is why there was the anti earthquake measures implemented. So it is not the builders fault if he had to have Adam and Eve created. It is not his fault that they chose to not listen to him and go with the adversary. The whole point is if you see something happen it will happen but not by u
@AURORACELLIAULOS "If the earth was Lucifer and God was the Sun...earth tried to be the Sun...anti earthquake measures implemented...not the builders fault if he had to have Adam and Eve created...if you see something happen it will happen but not by u."
@thirdleftturn If you see the future it does not mean that the events are done by you or created by you.You have seen what will be and what must happen.
That would mean everything is deterministic, and the notion of free will is a blatant lie. Which is it? Is the future carved in stone by god? Or do we have free will? Both cannot co-exist. I LOVE when religious fanatics contradict themselves, mainly because the apologetics that follow are so entertaining. You can almost feel the fanatics brain twist and twitch to try and justify his own contradictions
@tdjdk That is not contradicting itself God sees the future that you will choose and as such it will happen but not because he did it but because you chose it.You have now to choose who you will serve but God has already seen your choice but you choose now or in the future should you still have time if you will serve god or not it does not contradict.what about all the things which don't contradict and the things that look like contradiction are not but a simple misunderstanding.By the
@TheGeneralCritic Your future is determined by your choices now so God gave free will and you make your choices and so it is shaped by you and me when we make our decisions. So God saw the future that would be chosen but it was not made by him nor was he responsible he simply saw it and since we have the freedom of choice he could not force us.Why do you human beings follow the same steps as Adam and Eve in blaming God when you have now to choose and you do not choose Go(o)d.
@AURORACELLIAULOS If God saw a future in which I am tortured eternally for finite crimes and he had the power to save me from it but he did not save me from that future, he cannot by definition be benevolent.
@TheGeneralCritic You are not eternally tortured but you get the punishment for your sins an eye for an eye and the same pain you caused through your life you get to feel that before you are removed from the living where no more damage can be done to the perfect peace and serenity that exists there.
@TheGeneralCritic When you affect his creation and he feels all that happens to his creatures.Everything that you do wrong affects God and he has a right as it is he who brought us into existence perfect but we fell through choice and now he has given us a chance at redemption but someone who never admits that there is a problem will never be able to cure and see that there is a problem. We are all under his jurisdiction as he is creator and provider of us all.
@AURORACELLIAULOS How did we fall? If everything is made by God, and it was all perfect, where did evil come from? How could evil enter into a supposedly perfect universe?
If we were made perfect, how could we make wrong or evil choices? Perfection and evil/rebelliousness are contradictory.
@TheGeneralCritic I think it goes beyond that, even. God created a system knowing ahead of time that we would fall, according to the Bible. He told us not to eat from the tree of knowledge, which contained the knowledge of right and wrong. How is he going to tell us that it's wrong and honestly expect us to comprehend what he means when the knowledge of right and wrong are obtained AFTER eating the fruit from the tree? He set the system up for failure.
1. God is perfect, and he set the system up for failure on purpose. In this case, he is punishing all of mankind for something he did on purpose. This makes him malevolent.
2. God is not perfect, and he just fucked up. In this case, if he isn't perfect then he does not constitute as a supreme god. He's still malevolent though, for punishing us for his failure.
Well, if he was real, then he'd be malevolent. However, there is a 99.99999999999999999999% chance that he is not real. Christianity is just some ancient desert myth that went out of control.
@TheGeneralCritic Everything was created perfect but even a created being which is perfect can try to go beyond what it was created for and cause trouble such as if the moon tried to be the sun it would cause trouble for us if it moved so far away the night would be totally dark. The devil was perfect but he was jealous and instead of seeing the truth that he was wrong in wanting something that was not his the throne of God he continued and got Eve to follow in you shall be as
@TheGeneralCritic God knowing good and evil as God is not something you can become it is something you are.So they were perfect but the devil made them think that they would be as God in doing what God told them not to do and that they could do whatever they wanted and so we have today where someone who desires wealth thinks that they can kill someone and snuff out their life for it.So selfish which is the basis of all sin people thinking that their need is greater than others.
@AURORACELLIAULOS You said: "You are not eternally tortured but you get the punishment for your sins an eye for an eye...." And you know this based on what?
@tdjdk am talking mostly in the point of salvation but things are determined by the choices you make now and by the choices you make now you are able to affect your future but in salvation who you choose will decide the future that God had foreseen and which side you will be on.The inside of the city or the outside of the city.
@AURORACELLIAULOS “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
@ELEMENTSFAN666 Sorry but heard Epicurus before and he is talking on matters he knows nothing about. It is given onto a man once to die and after this the Judgement. So if he has a judgement after he dies then his life has to play a determining factor and what will he be judged on.The rejecting of God and his word which is his Son or accepting him. God is both able and willing but if God had to come down now none of us would be ready. He is giving all grace to live and come to him.
@AURORACELLIAULOS In the case of a God nobody can substantiate with any scientific means, everyone is playing on an even field because EVERYONE is making claims about things which they know nothing.
@TheGeneralCritic Actually I know this that men in science that should know better cannot substantiate evolution with the simple fact that life cannot be recreated even with the conditions, materials and with the added advantage of minds which can cause all that they believed to have happened and they cannot create life.Evolution cannot be substantiated by there being intermediate animals in fossil records and that there are animals which have not evolved 4 100 million years.
@TheGeneralCritic God has prophecy and the fact that the biblical account makes sense where the names in the bible have significance and that Jesus was prophesied from the Garden that is the time of Moses, lived and substantiated the fact that God cares for us and that he lives and is coming again.Christianity attests to the fact that there was a Christ and his timing in Daniel coincides with the time that the beast of the Roman kingdom would be in power. God has worked in the
@AURORACELLIAULOS The prophecies in the Bible are either so nebulous as to be useless or were not fulfilled.
Jesus' prophecy that 'this generation shall not pass' before the end times occur, in Mark 13:30, and again in Matthew. That generation did pass, the end times did not occur, and this prophecy is unfulfilled.
@AURORACELLIAULOS "If you see the future it does not mean that the events are done by you or created by you.You have seen what will be and what must happen."
Oh... I understand now. So if I see a semi coming down the street and I set a baby in the middle of the street, it's not MY fault that the baby gets hit. It's the semi's fault for not stopping and it's the baby's fault for not getting out of the way. Gotcha.
Their self idea of persecution does not mean we have the right to forget the way they behaved when they really did believe they had god on their side.
I am ashamed of the fact that I used to be a christian. CHRISTIANS: Leave the fears of "God's threats of eternal damnation" behind. Not only are you torturing yourselves with it: but as the result of it, you're also trying to use it to torture others. That's no way to live. Life feels SO MUCH GREATER when you are not living in fear of your god.
@SmashtheCmachine It feels much better when you know that you are living the way God would like you to not because of fear but out of love and respect for God knowing that he died to save you when he could have chosen not to.
@AURORACELLIAULOS Actually... it feels even greater knowing that the bible is a piece of crap written by men, to control men. Because once you give up trying to hold yourself to the impossible "catch 22" standards of the bible: you are free to be a good and decent person... because you LIKE being such a person.
Not to suck up brownie points from "god", or because of threats of hell.
@SmashtheCmachine It shows that you do not know the bible and have not read it that is why you can speak about something which God gave to man for their salvation and as a standard for man as what you like and dislike can change but that does not make it right. You do what God wants of you because you know that he loves you and that he wants what is good for you and for you to do what is right is not selfish and is always good. Nothing you do will make you become saved but it
@AURORACELLIAULOS lol I have actually know quite a little bit about it in a general sense: and have recently started going through it with a fine tooth comb! Sure, it tells you to love your neighbor, TURN THE OTHER CHEEK (in caps, because most christians have a MAJOR problem with that one), be helpful, be meek, help the needy, and such. BUT it ALSO contradicts itself with: *continued*
@AURORACELLIAULOS "Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel". (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
""If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)"
(Funny, I thought the bible said "thou shalt not kill"...) *continued*
Fortunetellers (Leviticus 20:27 NAB), Death for Hitting Dad (Exodus 21:15 NAB), Death for Cursing Parents (Proverbs 20:20 NAB) AND (Leviticus 20:9 NLT), Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)...
Oh, I know the bible all right. And my knowledge of it is improving daily.
I accurately labeled it a "catch 22". If you hold to THOSE rules: you break the rule that tells you not to kill.
@SmashtheCmachine As for the Judge thing they were to act and use the ;law of God as their rule book and if you went to the judge and priest and asked for the verdict in a matter and they used the rule of God to rule against you and it was not in your favor and you went against the ruling for example it says that if a bull gores another with the horns and you know it has the habit of doing that and it kills another mans bull then you are to take the dead one and give him your
@AURORACELLIAULOS And if "god's chosen" wanted to molest kids, the bible says we should not object. Interestingly enough, I don't recall any warnings in the bible against child molestation/abuse, and far to many preachers are guilty of it...
(OOH! Slam!)
Even more interesting, it is apparently quite all right to sacrifice your children to this sick bastard god (Judges 11:29-40 NLT)
@SmashtheCmachine It does not say that as Christ says that whatever we do to the children or the least of his servants we do to him as he sees and feels their pain.As for the child molestation yes it occurs but God did not tell priest that they are to stay celibate so they are in the wrong and there are many things which churches do that is not in the bible and as for the stoning fortunetellers and other thing were for the Jews as their national laws. As for you not knowing
@AURORACELLIAULOS Even still - FACT: Passages in the bible tell us to kill gay people (even AFTER that commandment not to kill). FACT: the bible says nothing at all about punishing child molesters.
It is my observation that the bible ranks as the most decidedly IMMORAL of "moral guidelines"
It's okay to torture animals (Joshua 11:6)... but it is the gravest of evils for two guys to be in love and have sex (and it says nothing about gay women).
@SmashtheCmachine That's cause women don't count to god. Even when they get raped, they're only worth 40 pieces of silver. AS LONG AS they are a virgin, AND somone SAW IT HAPPEN (testimony is worthless from a mere woman). Otherwise, no punishment. Great way to keep the women chaste, eh? Don't mattter what Testement it happens in, god's mercy is 'infinite' and he's the same 'yesterday, today, and forever.'
Meh, I took that all out of context though, didn't I.
@SmashtheCmachine the bible I take it back but you do not look for answers you look to point an accusing finger at the Lord who exists and will come down and end this world of sorrow and there is nothing that can be done as the devil who has more power than all the humans on this planet has no chance against God. Back to you sacrificing your children he said the first thing he loved his daughter and it was his only child and he never thought it would be her.He thought it would
@SmashtheCmachine be an animal and do not forget that the Lord did not let her burn as human life is something he has no pleasure in taking as he gave it so that we could live but in love and harmony. Do not call the lord sick for you should know that the Angel guarding you knows that that is false and is writing you thoughts and deeds which you will give an account of.You have been shown to just be just saying things when you never got to try to know the being you talk about.
@AURORACELLIAULOS So ergo: I see it PERFECTLY justifiable to reject the verdict of the bloody pompous bible thumpers. I guess I should be killed. Get your stones ready (and also prepare to spend some time in prison).
By the way: you stopped making sense, for awhile there.
"God did not create men to be with men"
You're right. Man made god, so god didn't make man to do anything.
People made god to control other men. And so all men controlled women.
@SmashtheCmachine That was in the Jewish society where you would grow up knowing it was wrong and the punishment which is what God has as the wages of sin.So it was a something that could only be carried out as a civil law and was there to maintain the nations social ethics and not become like Sodom remember they were Gods people. Again you have no idea of what you are saying and why do you have so much resentment for God yes you have those feeling but whether you want to
@SmashtheCmachine become a car you cannot. You are just being selfish and wanting things how you want them because that is how it is best for you but it is not the best and you will not be happy.I have gay friends thank you and I know.Cheating here cheating there but the whole point is that men were not made to give pleasure and reproduce with other men. They improvise and it is not how it should be as you were brought into this world through the means that was made originally.
@SmashtheCmachine live one which is what they would have ruled if it is known that it has done this already and you do not hand over your bull but sell it you are going against the verdict and stealing and defrauding your neighbor when you know it is the verdict of God as he decreed it you have forfeited your life yes.God did not create men to be with men neither did he create it to be so or feeling it make it right there are people who feel like they can sleep with children
@SmashtheCmachine so does that mean that they should or that if the child is 13 and wants to that they should. What about men who hit women and the women who think it is because they love them does that mean that it is alright.Listen homosexuals can use their own body as they see fit but just because you feel it does not mean that it is best and that it is impossible to love a woman or that God hates homosexuals. He does not like what they do as he never designed men to be
@SmashtheCmachine with men but God loves the person and would like them to see that what is being done is not the best and that in heaven there will be no sexual feeling and marriage but that we all have to deny ourselves of the sinful desires that beset us for to as many as receive him to them gave he power to become the sons of God and do what we know is right and what he wants.
@AURORACELLIAULOS Has it not occured to you (JUST TO HUMOR THAT THIS "GOD" EXISTS) that IF he exists, he made gay people because of his love in order to give abandoned children someone to care for them...?
Of course not. You're too busy peaching the bible's hatred, all while telling us how loving "He" (your god is).
Interestingly enough: you're so brainwashed: you can't see the irony of your own deeds... *frowns*
@SmashtheCmachine There were not supposed to have been abandoned children and gay people, disease, deformity and starvation or death. Never said I hated you or God hated you.Just as a parent loves his son whether they are a thief or murderer but dislikes what they do which brings trouble and disturbs the harmony of society. I am just telling you that this world and your feeling will pass away and that there is means of having eternal life and true happiness in the Lord and life
@AURORACELLIAULOS "Nothing you do will make you become saved but it"
Yes, I know: you can be westboro, and because you suck the jesus tit: you will be saved forever for being such an AWESOME christian (no matter how disgusting a person you are). But you better not disbelieve in god, no matter how many people you help or how many good deeds you do. Oh, you also better not be a homo. God hates them, too.
@SmashtheCmachine is because you believed and saw yourself that you asked for forgiveness and believed that you are saved through the blood of Christ and that you are following Christ and holding onto the sure hope of salvation when you repent and turn away from sin that you do the good that God wants of you in whatever situation.
Well that's a crappy investigation... I guess you don't see it because 1) You're not looking and 2) You're (from what you're telling me) not a christian ora follower of any religion and have never had "actual persecution" happen to you
These people are so ignorant... You don't think any living christian today has been persecuted? Try going to any highschool, middle school, or even workplace in America... And they definately can go to clubs and meetings for gay people, my school has a 'Gay, Straight Alliance" These hosts make the most ignorant comments.
And no, christian holidays are not the only holidays celebrated. Halloween has strong roots in paganism. Easter and Christmas have roots in Christianity but to most people arent even recognized as a Christian holiday.
@iEugene703 People don't get off work on Halloween. The mail still gets delivered on Halloween. Strawman...
Perhaps Easter and Christmas would be more distinctively religious holidays if they weren't based on pagan holidays to trick the ancient pagans into adopting christian myth-belief.
What is "christian persecution in the U.S." per your definition? Insufficient tax-breaks? Christian creationist myth-theories not taught as scientific theory in public schools?
@donfishmaster First, refusing to elect a non-christian is not "persecution". I canalmost guarantee an atheist would be very reluctant to elect AND support a theist. And the problem with the founding fathers happened more than 400 years ago and was obviously a mistake. I never said other religious groups weren't persecuted I just said Christianity was persecuted more than others
@iEugene703 um, considering the fact that after Constantine made Christianity the state religion of Rome, which led to Christian domination of Europe, and European (that is Christian) domination of the world from the age of exploration to the present, I would say history proves you wrong. Christianity has been the persecutor of ALL others more than the one being persecuted. If any one religion is the most persecuted, not counting "pagan" since that's many faiths, it's Judaism...
@Vanquisher2000 Yes, you have a good point but that's not the ONLY place where Christians are persecuted. As I said before, it still happens in the US and other countries like that but not as often and isnt carried out by the government
The list goes on and on, but given the plethora of christian media outlets, their innumerable places of worship, their public support via their tax-exempt status, their aggressive tribalism and xenophobia towards non-believers as reflected in election data, and the fact that christian and ONLY christian holidays are officially celebrated (for the vast majority of the populace) it is hard to work up a deep sense of sorrow for the horrible "persecution" christians experience in the U.S.A.
@donfishmaster But I bet you still enjoy and look forward to indulging in those Christian holidays don't you? Or,let me guess- you boycott them being the devout atheist you are and still go to work on those days? Please...double standard if I ever heard one.
@psalmsurfer1 Double-standard? I'll celebrate any holiday that involves not working (but my position does require working holidays/weekends.)
Since Christmas is well established as NOT being in anyway related to Christ's birthday but based on pagan winter solstice celebrations, do YOU feel weird celebrating a holiday that's absolutely based on winter pagan rituals totally and completely unrelated to the birth of Jesus??
@donfishmaster I don't celebrate it in that pagan way anymore. I celebrate the season of advent being Catholic and fast from the pagan rituals. I don't drink at all so don't engage in lust of the flesh. Christmas is hard to escape in general given it has been a part of life for anyone born in this century on this planet. For me it is about the birth of our Saviour and Lord Jesus born to a Virgin via the Holy Spirit.
@MagnusNyborg Ok, on wikipedia search persecution of Christians it will tell you that an estimated 100 MILLION christians were persecuted in 2010 and 75 out of 100 acts out of religious hatred were against Christians.
@iEugene703 Sorry to stick my oar in, but I looked at the entry in question and I'd like to point out that almost all of the persecution happens in predominantly Islamic 3rd world countries or dictatorships, and therefore is irrelevant to the situation in first world countries where Christians make up the majority of the religious.
The U.S.A. is built on AMERICAN religion. Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and the Prophets and Elders brought REAL AMERICAN RELIGION to us so we don't have to believe in those dirty "foreign" or "middle-eastern" religions.
@Vire70 yes sir the USA was built on Christianity but the separation of church and state only signifies religious FREEDOM buddy. The declaration of Independence mentions the Creator several times, 50 out of the 55 framers of the constitution were professing christians, etc. And yes, I have seen plenty of atheists claiming to be the minority
@mentalphsicalism The US is not a "christian" nation, it was built on christianity... HUGE difference (The US has mainly rejected their original values now). The US is religiously free so EVERYONE has the same rights. The same goes for atheists anyway, you always call us Christians idiots and most of the time refer to us as the minority but then turn around to say, in fact, that YOU are the persecuted minority. I see this ALL over YouTube. Also, before you comment AT LEAST have the decency to k
The U.S wasn't build on Christianity at all. The U.S was founded with specific laws to separate religion from the government. For good reason. It's likely a big part of why the U.S has been so successful, which would rapidly become apparent if fundamentalist imbeciles ever managed to turn the U.S into the theocracy they wish it was. Besides, what are you talking about? I've never seen an Atheist call a Christian a minority.
I take exception to Jeff's closing remark about where our right's come from. He is right that they don't come from some invisible sky daddy, but he is also wrong that they come passing laws. Our are the simple fact that we are along. We pass laws to restrict certain of our rights so that we may live together peaceably.
@iEugene703 'Im not sure if you notice but most of the time when people talk about "religious" people you usually think of Christians' You clearly haven't travelled much. Christianity is the most populace religion in the western world, elsewhere religion means everyother fairytale. I dont mean to sound cruel cause you clearly are not an asshole, but I'm just saying.
@PirateMonkeyFilmz Persecution doesn't happen as often here as it does in other countries because we have religious rights, but it's still there, just not being executed by the government. And most Christian shows I watch don't discriminate atheists but talks about advances in ministry and charity and and some are just live broadcasts of sermons, etc. I don't believe that any belief should be FORCED on anyone so I disagree with passing laws for religious "discrimination" :) God bless
This show is the biggest contradiction I've ever seen!! You are making a show, specifically AGAINST Christianity ("religion" usually implies Christians) and saying YOU are being persecuted. I don't see atheists being treated as Christians do. Although most Christians aren't persecuted in a direct way, many are being killed or imprisoned for their beliefs. Most of the unharmed Christians you speak about probably live in The USA or another free country. There are currently about 50 countries in t
@iEugene703 ´This show is the biggest contradiction I've ever seen!! You are making a show, specifically AGAINST Christianity ("religion" usually implies Christians)´ It´s about non-believe in god(s) and since the largest religion in the U.S. is christianity it gets discussed the most. They've also discussed Islam and FSMism for example.
'I don't see atheists being treated as Christians do. ' Atheists just as much get the death penalty in theocracies as people from the wrong religion.
@iEugene703 Where exactly are they being killed or imprisoned for their beliefs, eh? Not in this country. Count how many atheist TV shows there are. Now go and count the number of Christian shows and tell me the difference. Atheists dont try to pass laws to discriminate. christians do
God is a spirit, an immaterial conscious being. All things in the universe consists of matter and/or energy, so if God isn't matter, is energy by definition. Energy is the capacity to do work, is eternal, omnipresent, wasn't created and can't be destroyed, can create matter, was the only thing present before the BB, and the energy required to make the universe must had been powerful. All these match Biblical descriptions of God. He wants us to elevate our consciousness to the next level, is real
I've also heard people say that the most persecuted group in America is white men. They honestly believe this. I think it's because when a group is the vast majority and is extremely powerful, they get used to it and any time they develop a sense of entitlement. When you're deprived of something to which you're entitled, you're persecuted. They believe they have the right to their power and taking a little bit away is perceived as persecution. It's an argument from ignorance. But I would go one
step farther and call it an argument from privilege. If you are a white heterosexual Christian male in America who is middle class or higher, it is very, very difficult to be persecuted. Does it happen on a small scale? Unquestionably, but that is individual and not class-based, and that's what you have to mean when you you claim that Christians, whites, the rich, etc. are persecuted. It's entitlement and ignorance. Nothing more.
@xJoeEDangerouslyx Although, me being a white male (atheist) junior trying to get into college, it's a bit of a bitch to find scholarships. I happen to reside in a family that is not poor enough for need-based scholarships, but not rich enough to afford college. I'm going for merit based, mostly.
Just my two cents. Not that this issue's very important in the long run, it sucks right now.
@MrEdLoop That was the same problem I had. Like you, not poor enough to get scholarships, not rich enough to afford college. Had to take out student loans because competition for scholarships and fellowships were soo stiff at my school.
I used to have a John Byrne-era Fantastic Four shirt like Jeff's. It had even developed cracks in the transfer in a near-identical place. For all I know, that could BE my shirt, since I have no idea what ever happened to it!
I am truly sorry to hear about the tragic loss of you Byrna-era shirt, so I decided to investigate the plausability of what you mention. However, after having studied this recording intensely, I can assure you, that this man's shirt cannot be your shirt. The visible transfer crack is not a crack at all. It is the microphone wire. Although it does not move much during the recording it is neverhteless moving slightly. So Jeff's shirt is in mint condition. Perhaps you can buy it.
All I can think of whenever I hear a Christian saying that they are being persecuted for not being allowed to be close-minded bigot, is the line from Monty Python "Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"
PS: This co-host eyebrows scare the crap outta me ;D ROFL

@fekinel I did just this, the low number of signatures is rather depressing. However, I am not sure the petitions I read where couched in terms that would appeal to a broader section of the population ,one of them seemed quite hostile , which is fine by me because I'm quite militant. I think a newer petition with more carefully crafted language might broaden the appeal and get more signatures.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.

We KNOW life CAN be painful and agonizing.
JUST MAYBE, "God" (as being loving) wants to know whether we are GOOD Which is why he WILL NOT interfere, no matter how hard life can be.
If WE are meant to be "as god" (Biblical claim), and we know how painful life can be... imagine a truly terrible omnipotent entity...

dancingnancy09 1 month ago
@dancingnancy09 I met ONE, of all of them.
He claims to be atheist, but acts as much of a zealot as the most crazed of the religious.
By the way, I am agnostic, with my closest ties being (I hate to say...)... christian.
But I MUCH prefer the common atheist thinking over the vast majority of so-called "christians".
I didn't expect to receive "top comment" status for that statement... but THAT statement explains why I feel the way I do.
SmashtheCmachine 1 month ago
@dancingnancy09 You may not have met many atheists. Atheism and open mindedness are not hand in hand, just as religions do not hold a monopoly on homophobia or the persecution and/or ostracising of homosexuals.
57worldwide 1 month ago
@57worldwide Ive met hundreds of atheists- I am an atheist and I come from an extended atheist family and have attended quite a few atheist conventions- and religions do have a monopoly on homophobia- its pretty much the basis of it- the bible and the quran actually outline the requirement within thier faiths to be homophobic!
dancingnancy09 1 month ago
@dancingnancy09 Abrahamic faiths may nurture, and foster, homophobia; they may promote, and condone, the ostracising and persecution of homosexuals. They do not hold a monopoly on homophobia. Do you know what a monopoly is?
You imply that homophobic people are religious. It's a ridiculous claim. While some religious people are homophobic, not every homophobe is religious, or got their prejudice from religion.
What you have said is akin to 'racial bias is a monopoly held by the KKK'.
57worldwide 1 month ago
@57worldwide yes of course I know what a monpoly is do you? and yes there are many non-relgious peopole who harbour homophobia- I do not imply that ALL relgious people are homophobic however when you consider that at LEAST 3 of the main relgions of the world incorporate homophobia into theier relgious doctrines and make it a required element of a followers belief system, if a majority of followers adhere to this requirement- then religion holds a monopoly on homophobia- not absolute its general.
dancingnancy09 1 month ago
@dancingnancy09 You don't know what monopoly means.
Do you want a definition, or an example?
57worldwide 1 month ago
@57worldwide look up the definition of monopoly - I HAVE you dont know what it means- it means to have dominant control-it does NOT mean 100%-look it up! Now- if most of the worlds homophobes are religious-which they are, and they are homophobic because religion tells them to be, then religion is creating and controlling belief system of homophobia-hence having a monoploy on it. This has little do with the fact I still havnt met a homophobic atheist-unless youre one. Were done thank you.
dancingnancy09 1 month ago
@57worldwide BTW- I never stated that majority= monoploy that was youre mistake in interpretation- i have found youre arrogance exceptionally unattractive- I also find this discussion redundant in relation to my original comment and any further engagement would be a awste of both our times- I sense that you are the type of person who will ignore my request to leave me alone, therefore i have now blocked you so i wont be bothered by you anymore-send all the insults you like i shant see them

A definition of monopoly: exclusive possession or control - tell me, where did you get the definition that it only meant dominant control?
I do know people who are atheist and homophobic. Your statement is false.

TheGeneralCritic 2 months ago 3
@TheGeneralCritic I think it goes beyond that, even. God created a system knowing ahead of time that we would fall, according to the Bible. He told us not to eat from the tree of knowledge, which contained the knowledge of right and wrong. How is he going to tell us that it's wrong and honestly expect us to comprehend what he means when the knowledge of right and wrong are obtained AFTER eating the fruit from the tree? He set the system up for failure.
66gt40lm 2 months ago 22
@66gt40lm
Yep. There are only two explanations for this:

@AURORACELLIAULOS It ALSO tells you TO kill:

SmashtheCmachine 1 month ago

SmashtheCmachine 1 month ago 2
@SmashtheCmachine That's cause women don't count to god. Even when they get raped, they're only worth 40 pieces of silver. AS LONG AS they are a virgin, AND somone SAW IT HAPPEN (testimony is worthless from a mere woman). Otherwise, no punishment. Great way to keep the women chaste, eh? Don't mattter what Testement it happens in, god's mercy is 'infinite' and he's the same 'yesterday, today, and forever.'
Meh, I took that all out of context though, didn't I.

You're right. Man made god, so god didn't make man to do anything.
People made god to control other men. And so all men controlled women.
So fuck God.

And no, christian holidays are not the only holidays celebrated. Halloween has strong roots in paganism. Easter and Christmas have roots in Christianity but to most people arent even recognized as a Christian holiday.
iEugene703 3 months ago
@iEugene703 People don't get off work on Halloween. The mail still gets delivered on Halloween. Strawman...
Perhaps Easter and Christmas would be more distinctively religious holidays if they weren't based on pagan holidays to trick the ancient pagans into adopting christian myth-belief.
What is "christian persecution in the U.S." per your definition? Insufficient tax-breaks? Christian creationist myth-theories not taught as scientific theory in public schools?
donfishmaster 3 months ago 2
@donfishmaster First, refusing to elect a non-christian is not "persecution". I canalmost guarantee an atheist would be very reluctant to elect AND support a theist. And the problem with the founding fathers happened more than 400 years ago and was obviously a mistake. I never said other religious groups weren't persecuted I just said Christianity was persecuted more than others
iEugene703 3 months ago
@iEugene703 um, considering the fact that after Constantine made Christianity the state religion of Rome, which led to Christian domination of Europe, and European (that is Christian) domination of the world from the age of exploration to the present, I would say history proves you wrong. Christianity has been the persecutor of ALL others more than the one being persecuted. If any one religion is the most persecuted, not counting "pagan" since that's many faiths, it's Judaism...
bl91978 3 months ago 2
@Vanquisher2000 Yes, you have a good point but that's not the ONLY place where Christians are persecuted. As I said before, it still happens in the US and other countries like that but not as often and isnt carried out by the government
iEugene703 3 months ago
@iEugene703 Per recent studies, the Tea Party is significantly LOATHE to back Mitt Romney due to his Mormon beliefs = persecution.
Per recent studies, most christians in America would not dream of supporting a non-christian (particular a non-believer) for president = persecution.
The actual native Native American beliefs were tirelessly exterminated as a core focus of christianity = persecution.
The Founding Pilgrims tirelessly exterminated and expelled non-believers = persecution.
donfishmaster 3 months ago
The list goes on and on, but given the plethora of christian media outlets, their innumerable places of worship, their public support via their tax-exempt status, their aggressive tribalism and xenophobia towards non-believers as reflected in election data, and the fact that christian and ONLY christian holidays are officially celebrated (for the vast majority of the populace) it is hard to work up a deep sense of sorrow for the horrible "persecution" christians experience in the U.S.A.
donfishmaster 3 months ago 2
@donfishmaster But I bet you still enjoy and look forward to indulging in those Christian holidays don't you? Or,let me guess- you boycott them being the devout atheist you are and still go to work on those days? Please...double standard if I ever heard one.
psalmsurfer1 3 months ago
@psalmsurfer1 Double-standard? I'll celebrate any holiday that involves not working (but my position does require working holidays/weekends.)
Since Christmas is well established as NOT being in anyway related to Christ's birthday but based on pagan winter solstice celebrations, do YOU feel weird celebrating a holiday that's absolutely based on winter pagan rituals totally and completely unrelated to the birth of Jesus??
donfishmaster 3 months ago
@donfishmaster I don't celebrate it in that pagan way anymore. I celebrate the season of advent being Catholic and fast from the pagan rituals. I don't drink at all so don't engage in lust of the flesh. Christmas is hard to escape in general given it has been a part of life for anyone born in this century on this planet. For me it is about the birth of our Saviour and Lord Jesus born to a Virgin via the Holy Spirit.
psalmsurfer1 3 months ago
@MagnusNyborg Ok, on wikipedia search persecution of Christians it will tell you that an estimated 100 MILLION christians were persecuted in 2010 and 75 out of 100 acts out of religious hatred were against Christians.
iEugene703 3 months ago
@iEugene703 Sorry to stick my oar in, but I looked at the entry in question and I'd like to point out that almost all of the persecution happens in predominantly Islamic 3rd world countries or dictatorships, and therefore is irrelevant to the situation in first world countries where Christians make up the majority of the religious.

@iEugene703 Most Christians like to say that the US is a Christian nation to infer that
nonchristians have fewer rights but when Christians are discussed as the dominate
religion, Christians want to say that they are just one of many religions. Christians are
the ones who want and have it their way then complain of persecution when someone
opposes them. Since the first centuries CE, Christians have not been persecuted for
being atheists because they replaced the old gods.

@PirateMonkeyFilmz Persecution doesn't happen as often here as it does in other countries because we have religious rights, but it's still there, just not being executed by the government.
