I think what Axis force did was brilliant even after being heavily outnumbered. They captured France very early and kept the fight going for 5 years. There was a time when most people thought Hitler is gonna win the war. Germany was a land power confined to Europe. It's navy was too small to pose any direct threat to oversea powers. The United States was a gigantic unreachable furnace of industry. I was just mentioning that during Germany and Japan lost the war because they a lot of their resource territories cut off or bombed. Germany actually had to produce much of their oil synthetically from coal when they lost france and were being pushed back by the russians.

Germany would never have won WWII. Germany couldn't even get across the English Channel. Most people overlook the fact that Germany didn't have much of a navy. They were planning on ferrying their army across the Channel with river barges, and those can't make it through level two seas. The Royal Navy wouldn't even have to do anything. The sea would have sunk the German army all on its own.

Many of these "60 nations" you speak of, contributed comparatively very little. The main allied beligrents against Germany was the Soviet Union, The United States and the British Empire.

Germany was a land power confined to Europe. It's navy was too small to pose any direct threat to oversea powers. The United States was a gigantic unreachable furnace of industry. As long as the United States were fully commited, no nation in the world could defeat them. Maybe keep them out, if England and the Soviet Union were out of the way, but they weren't.

Later in 1940 Japan joined and it was called "The Tripartite Pact" or sometimes "The Axis Pact." Later on quite a few other countries joined like Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Hungary and others. If anyone deserves credit for the successes of the German army and Waffen-SS, it's the German soldiers and officers. The German army of WWII is right up there with the armies of Alexander, Napoleon, and Robert E. Lee. Their officers were world class, and their NCO corps was, as well. The only was an army that poorly led from Berlin could fight so well, for so long was because of the colonels, captains, sergeant, and so fourth.

As for the Soviet Union, even if Germany had defeated the Red Army (which is highly unlikely), the Russian people wouldn't have just sat back and let their culture be erased. The Russians would have fought like the Arab insurgents in Afghanistan in the 80s. There was no hope for a German victory in WWII.

Germany would never have won WWII. Germany couldn't even get across the English Channel. Most people overlook the fact that Germany didn't have much of a navy. They were planning on ferrying their army across the Channel with river barges, and those can't make it through level two seas. The Royal Navy wouldn't even have to do anything. The sea would have sunk the German army all on its own.

Just as it was with Napoleon, it doesn't matter how big your army is, if you don't have a fleet to move it, it's useless. It takes YEARS to build a Navy, and Great Britain already had a huge fleet in the Atlantic. By themselves, the Royal Navy would have kept Germany from getting across the Channel. Nazis weren't going to take everything. People seem to forget underground fighting movements that would've no doubt lead to the destruction of the Nazi empire anyway. The only way for any empire or country to last is to allow for autonomy or democracy. Romans knew this and Greeks knew this. There was the British Empire and look at what happened, it broke up into several countries and they're left with nothing but a small island that they started out with.

In the Pacific, the Japanese lost a staggering number of men to the British and Americans, simply because of the mass suicides that occurred when the Japanese knew they were in a hopeless situation. The British and Americans loved the Banzai charges. The Japanese were in the open and could be annihilated.

The United States produced 300.000 aircraft and 88.000 tanks by themselves during the war. The Soviet Union produced 200.000 aircraft and around 150.000 tanks. Compare this with Germany who produced 119.000 aircraft and 66.000 tanks. The combined might of the Soviet Union and the United States contributed 90 % to victory.
