  • is this a toy engine

  • @LiviuJETIX It depends on what you call a toy. It's intended use is for model airplanes. I'ts been designed by engineers and manufactured in a top notch facility to demanding standards.

  • @LiviuJETIX There is no such thing as a toy engine. If you think this engine is a toy, try getting one up to full throttle and then stick your hand into the propeller.

You can spend your ride in the ambulance explaining to the paramedics that the horrific damage to your hand is not at all serious, because it was done by a toy.

  • just bought a Fs-91 surpass on ebay, it looks great on the picture. i'm waiting for it, the seller need to send it to me

do i inspect first the insite first before i try to start it, if so (witch part? the back?looking for rust….?)

anyway , verry verry intersting video ! well explained

  • @moutonsteve Yes, check for rust. Chances are high the bearing will need replacement. If it's stuck, heat and fresh fuel in the crankcase will loosen it.

  • @rcdieselrc Are these four stroke engines still in production? Sorry if that sounds dumb lol but, since theyre so hard to find I'm not sure.

  • @XxENovaxX The OS FS-52 was replaced about five years ago. They can still be found second hand. The new model is the FS-56 Alpha.

  • does this engine need to have the sump filled with oil?? i can see that the piston would be lubricated by the oil in the fuel but how does the crankshaft / con-rod get lubricated?? I can't believe those little drips of oil you gave it in reassembly are enough to lubricate it, im just curious :]

  • @DeepFriedFuzzball Model four stroke engines don't have sump oil like most four stroke engines. They rely on oil in the fuel and blow-by past the single piston ring. The ring can't prevent a significant amount of oil from getting by into the crankcase, by design. A small amount of oil accumulates in the crankcase and excess is expelled through the breather. This is continuous however. Most model four stroke engines require 18% oil in the methanol based fuel. Life is 100's of hours if cared for.

  • Very helpful, I am refurbishing a Surpass 48, I was stuck on the camshaft alignment~until you very clearly showed how to line up the dot with the lifter sleeves. A great big thank you!

  • What type of oil were u using?

  • @7bikerboy7 You'll want to use something that's compatible with alcohol. Castor oil or a compatible synthetic. I've used regular motor oil in the past, but you can only do this with engines that don't have pumps, or regulators. Some synthetic motor oils should be OK though.

  • Is TDC when the piston is at the very top of the cycle and valves are closed?

  • @7bikerboy7 If on the compression stroke, both valves are closed. If on the intake stroke, both will be open. If you are referring to setting valve clearance you do it when the valves are closed.

  • Hi I was wondering what tork value do you use for head, back plate etc?Where can I get

a small tork wrench like that? Thanks

  • @rich52mag

Please refer to the first comment. Hobby City, Tower, etc. There are a few Chinese sets sold under various name brands.

  • Hello I bought the os 120III surpass 4 stroke w/pump and set the needles as instructed from the instruction booklet. Low end needle..2.5 out. High end needle..1.5 out from closed position. The engine will not stay idleing at a good low rpm for too long and just shuts off...any ideas?

  • @7bikerboy7 The basic carb settings are just that. You must fine tune from there. Follow the manual for tuning. I can't tell from your description if the low speed needle is rich or lean. BTW, don't richen the high speed once you've found peak RPM. With the pump and regulator system this is not necessary.

  • muy bueno con este segundo video ya se desmontar mi motor ,gracias por el trabajo un saludo

  • What thickness feeler gauges are you using?

  • @cpeisher

Standard OS specs( and all model airplane four stroke engines for that matter) are 0.04-0.1mm or .0015-.004" clearance. I use the 0.04mm feeler.

  • helpful video

  • Cool i didn't know they made a 4stroke glow engine!

  • So it runs off of nitro fuel. Cool thanks man.

  • I was wondering what type of fuel this engine ran off of, and were I could posibly get one.

  • This OS Engines FS-52 engine is made to run on glow fuel consisting of lubricant, methanol, and 0-30% nitromethane. The engine uses a glow plug for ignition. These engines are produced for the radio control hobby market and can be found through various distributors. Search for "OS Engines" to find online dealers. Or look through your local business listings for hobby shops.

  • Where do you get a torque wrench like that?

  • The torque wrench is not needed. I rebuilt many engines without one with no problems. The biggest problem is not making sure the head is seated properly before tightening the head bolts. Just try to be consistent with torque on the head.

The one I use is sold by Hobby City. Tower offers a similar product from Integy. A nicer industrial type wrench is available from Torkit.
