  • I remember living in Monmouth County, NJ, part of the NYC market, and for some reason, the only way we could get WLIW was on cable. We couldn't get reception over the air to save our lives, yet we got WLIG (now WLNY) in the clear, and that's further out on Long Island. I could go on with stories about the cable going out on us during my childhood, but that happens to everyone, and I'm sure many have great DXing experience from those incidents. :-)

  • I live on Long Island! And very close to Garden City

  • 0:34-0:40: With "A.M. Weather", no less...

  • Anyone got any ID's, etc. of the "hill" logo (I just remember that the call letters formed a kind of hill shape)

  • WLIW 21 Garden City, New York is based in Long Island, New York and a rival to WNET 13 in the NYC area for PBS stations.

  • Not anymore, it's not. WNET bought WLIW.

  • And WNET and WLIW are the 2 PBS stations in NYC, while WNYE 25 became American Public Television and WPXN became Classic Sports, then PAX, and now ION.

  • WNYE 25 is now owned by the NYC Media Group, but they still offer APT programs, along with the in house produced programming. Also, the transmitters for WNYE has moved from Brooklyn to the Empire State Building.

  • Is American Public Television a rival to PBS that even offers shows to most PBS stations?

  • I.I.N.M., it is. APT was preceded in this capacity by the Eastern Educational Network (EEN).

  • what! i didn't know that. when did that happen?

  • Not a "rival". They are both owned by the same people.
