A father who wants to free us from our egocentric, people hating, God mocking selfishness so that we can see and savor him would bring suffering into the world in order to demonstrate to us the deadly self-centeredness of our hearts so that we can turn from our sins to him who is the joy above all joys. Or did your father never punish you?

I've been put on this earth in order to display Christ's worth, and in that sense death is an enemy. But I hope one day to also display Christ's worth in my dying as well. So whether I live or whether I die Christ may get the glory, because to live is Christ and to die is gain. The day I look forward to more than any other day is the day I stand before the throne and my Father says, "Enter into the joy of your master." Until then I'm here to witness to that.
