@fretboardyoda I've been listening to Nektar since 77', Found the LP (Remember the Future) while I was in Germany for a few yrs. LOVE-IT Even my gf. Loves it, (just hearing it for the first time in her life) One of the Only C.D.'s I would pay Full price for I'll tell you that...........lol
Break out the black lights and posters.I have always loved these guys and feel they where one of the more undrerated psycedelic bands of all time.It kind of makes me want to smoke some Thai stick and fly away with that bluebird.
A performance of the entire album is available on a DVD recorded in Germany called Blue. It cam out around 2005. In addition to all of Remember the Future, there's plenty more, plus a bonus disc of an acoustic performance. Well worth viewing! Saw them two years ago, and they're still going strong, although Albrighton didn't seem in top form that night.
Without a doubt, their masterpiece. I recently transferred the LP to a CD. Forgot how good it was. They should tour and play the entire album verbatim.
I was able to see Nektar multiple times here in NJ as for awhile they were based in Madison, NJ. Once even in New York at the Wolman arena with Starcastle (a Yes sound alike group).
They were one of the most interesting prog bands at that time.
Very technical and inventive. The only downside was that the record that was released in the US was usually an album behind what they had released (and played in concert) at the time.
@rockaway07866 I remember when: being back in that area for a time, Lookin at bass heads for sale and met this friend of a friend in parking lot of a music store and he whipped out this bass amp he was selling for his friend who was in Nektar !. I had heard of them at the time and was a bit impressed but didn't have the cash for what he was asking. Somehow he also knew some dudes in Camel too ! I think he was a guitar tech for them.
Anyone know what type/model guitar it is that Roye plays? Looks like maybe it's an Epiphone Sheraton with Filtertons, but does anyone know for sure what he used?
@everyone. No one knows huh?... or cares is probably more like it :(. So it looks like in fact it's a Sheraton and presumably a '65 since Roye mentions that was one of his guitars in an interview. So now what's that weird bridge on the guitar? I suppose I can just ask him on his myspace page!
Did you ever find out what kind of guitar he is playing. I saw these guys at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium back in 1975 or 1976. Not certain. but in any event, i could have sworn the guitar he was playing had eight strings.
@UtopiaPoet Yep I contacted Roye through myspace. So it is a '65 Sheraton that he had repaired and refinished. The unusual bridge was an addition so that indeed the guitar could accomodate 8 strings, which he used on the RTF tour. Man you got to see them live? I'm seriously jealous. I doubt they'll make it out to the states again these days but one could only hope.
Good to hear. Thanks for your note and interest. Unfortunately I have no other video - just "Remember the Future" and "Good Day", both available here on YouTube. I also have active contact with Roye and Mo.
hi , i'm a surviver from the seventies. i lived in bonn, godesberg back then., the club they played regulary was called underground and i have seen them therequite often . jupppie schaefer was the owner.
i wonder if you know of any films actually made there.? 1974,75?
the club was quite famous. is there chance you know it?
hi there . i survived nektar a few times in 1974 or 75 or76?
they plaid quite often in bonn, bad godesberg,

This was ny favorite song for a long time. Nektar is cool! " Remember the future" is one of their best musical pieces and timeless. A wonderful masterpiece.
Great video, and I love Nektar, still have the original vinyls. :-) But I am the only one who thinks the LP was dubbed on top of this video? It's too perfectly like the original...
Saw them at Dundee Uni late '74 I think just b4 Down 2 earth came out and they blew me away. Loudest gig I ever heard. Made the likes of Zep & Purple sound tame by comparison
No, I was talking about Glenside, PA......and I couldn't go this year. However, I did see them in '74 at the Trenton War Memorial. (not sure what it's called now) That was an exceptional show!
All of you lucky dudes out there who saw this great band can say thanx to the "Gods of music". It was 1975 when I discovery them and their music, thanx to Circus magazine. The music has help me believe in the power of positive thinking and a better future. Thank you again Nektar for creating great music.
First saw Nektar at a Man concert in Watford town hall with a mate Mike Thomas back in '73. Man were playing their Back to the Future tour and I think Deke Leonards Iceberg were also there. All three bands jammed at the end, it was awesome! I think todays bands think jamming is something that happens when their car gets stuck in gear! ;0)
As far as I'm concerned..The Nektar sound and light show was the best execution of a concert I have ever seen. i am a musician and enjoyed every musical journey they took me thru. My dream was to be in their band, but Larry fast and Taff beat me to it.
As a Teenager I saw the quite often since I am from Darmstadt (Hessia, Germany) and Darmstadt more or less was their hometown. The light show was immense; maybe you can do that with a tiny computer nowadays. Zappa once gave them a shit sound as they opened for him, later in the tour he through them out because they were better then him. Same happened to Golden Earring who opened for the Who. Nektar made a big mistake in going to a big label and to the USA.
I have to agree with you about both Nektar and Golden Earring. Most people only know one tune by Golden Earring...Radar Love. While it was a great tune, the entire Moontan album was stellar. And I just got the Japanese import of Remember the Future on CD since it's hard to come by and all my vinyl was stollen in'87 and it's been quite difficult to replace some of the out of print stuff. You really have to go searching for it....
my compliments to the band, also. The first time I heard of Nektar was in 1973 (or 74) in San Antonio. A flyer on the windshield of my car told of a concert by a band from Germany : Nektar. It promised to be one of the most stunning performances of the decade, both musically and visually..laser light show..holograms dancing on your head. Less than a year later, I was turning my friends on to this album & "Recycled". I still share their music with friends.
"Recycled" was the first ever album I bought when I was 13 and I played it on my cheap turntable until it was nearly ruined. Like "The Scorpions", who come from Hannover (no, it is not hangover :-)), they had no chance to get famous in their own country and went to the US.
Now that I found them on YT again and read your comment I'm glad they did so.
Nashhha123 Your dad is such a great bass player. This band was/is amazing. Used to practice to this song and listen to it into the night as well as Remember The Future. Great seeing NeKtAr alive and well!!!
virtual greetings to all the band members, and their kids - great to come 'that near' to the band so inexpectedly. My favourite were probably 'Sounds like this' - rebought it after 30 years, on CD. Now it stays side by side with Lou Reed's 'Rock and Roll Animal'. A good frame of reference to put woodstock, the Doors, the 60ies and all good stuff, up to today, in between.
Cheers.
P.S: what about a Woodstock of 60ies music (only original films projected to mega screens)?
Hello Nassha, greets to ur family and all the rest from Alain and Jamie Freeman( Son and Grandson from the wonderfull/talented Keyboardplayer"Taff" Freeman)
Just for your clarification, I wasn't referring to Nektar as being disco, not by a long shot, these guys kicked some major rock & roll ass. It was just a joke, an old chant, maybe you had to be a rock & roller in the 70's to get it. (Refer to videos on "Disco Demolition".)
Wow, I still have this on high quality vinyl, never saw the video though, thanks for posting it. Ah yes! Nektar how I remember them back in the 1970's. It's so great to see 'Mo' on bass and 'Taff' on keyboards as well as Roye(vocals and guitar) and Ron(drums) who, of course, are still in the band.

Ah yes! Nektar how I remember them back in the 1970's. It's so great to see 'Mo' on bass and 'Taff' on keyboards as well as Roye(vocals and guitar) and Ron(drums) who, of course, are still in the band.

The kings of the psychedelic era, together with Syd Barett and Pink Floyd. They have 9 official albums. Collect it all and you will never regret. :)
