@TheLandhart Back in Part 13, I think - when they were heading back to the sub after checking out the message from Anchorage, he gashed his leg on a piece of metal going down the ladder to the inflatable dinghy.
@squeamishsquirrel What I also found in this film is the fact if fallout occurs in the Northern Hempshire then Australia and New Zealand are screwed. Those 2 nation rely about 98 percent of their fuel from the Northern Hempshire. Australia really made the mistake decades ago just like America to rely entirely on fuel not from either of those nations.
@v19d New Zealand and Australia have oil, natural gas, gold, uranium, and all the resources necessary. Besides neither nation is likely to survive, and if they do then the population would be quite small, suffering from birth defects and high fatality rates as a result of the radiation in the food, air and water supply, not to mention the nuclear winter would make crops fail. Personally I would be holding a wine glass on the beach too.
OK, i've got to say it- compared to 'Threads' -the realistic human horror of the UK take on a Nuclear cataclysm, or compared to 'The Day After' . which is an equally grim look at the real cost of such a war..... this Ozzie viewpoint with its steak dinners, brave men slapping each others backs, saucy old boozy sluts, dancing sailors etc is a shallow, sentimental, dumb-ass schmaltzy piece of shit. I'm sorry you guys are so fond of it- but it really is. Cliched tripe.
why do the aussies sit on their fat asses when they should be building underground cities with water purifiers, and synthetic light for growing plants
@Widerstand08 With fall of CCCP there's less chance now , When I was boy believe we were just as afraid , our government have fingers on buttons just waiting for good exscuse to launch attack against west and we all know it would mean equal destrcution both side. hopefully by now as civilized people maybe learn to settle differences at table instead from inside bunker.
Calm down, people. There is no such thing as dead. Life is just a dream. We'll all meet up, again. Life will pop back up on Earth, and elsewhere. So don't worry about the past. Don't fret about the future. The only real question is, what will you do, right now?
all i can say is why do we have weak cowards as leaders who always think someone is out to get them! Why can't they learn that the world is not weapons test site!
While watching the movie, specifically the way the submarine crew worked during the toughest of times (after they discovered the terrible truth) made me feel SO different than ever before. Just imagine the HELL in their minds, but they still kept doing what they did best, and of course Dwight. They were thinking WHERE to die. Not about the fact itself and how early it was. I should do my best in everything like they did, my life will have an end, I'm happy that the world will be alive after that
@RoundenBrown Other than at the start at part 1, where the sub radio operator tells the submarine commanders and his first officers on the conning tower, that there all doomed because the radioations heading south towards them. That just hits you like a sledge hammer very despressing that.
I understand your point of view and share it, but if I were puking and shitting and being nauseous all the time without hope of an end of it, would possibly take the easy way out.. of course I no longer have young children to take into consideration
Going to Tasmania(or Antartica for that matter) would probably have given people a few months at best but eventually the radiation would cover those locations as well.
if i was going to die tho, i'd just go early, but thats me. i'd make sure my familly was gone before i did of corse, if i could make it to cali to the shelter under that hotel down there fine, or perhaps even cheyenne mountain, if the 'enclave' lets any in that is.. then theres georgia, they have plenty of bunkers, and kentucky, as well as kansas. i'm screwed cuz theres a base not far from me.. so hopefully if i go, i go fast, but if i dont screw cyanide, BANG. done.
i really should explain that i alread have a plan in place against such a disaster.. i'm implimenting it. but what i mean to say is that if it were like that, the end. i would do it cleanly.
Its been a few years since I read the book but I think it went like this. Coriolis and the wind patterns initially kept the fallout from crossing the equator. But it was not a perfect airtight seal so eventually enough fallout managed to seep into the southern hemisphere although it did slow it down.
Those guys would not have been wasting beer by pouring it all over themselves!

@Ericzeppe Agreed, Australia has plenty of salt mines that are deep and spacious.
Dr. Strangelove proposed that idea at the end of his movie, the idea is sound enough and it could enable people to survive a lengthy fallout.
HerrEllsworth 1 year ago
@Ericzeppe
Because they only had a matter of months(two in this movie) before the fallout clouds covered the world.

This movie and the book is not just a warning of the terror of nuclear war but also of the way human beings face the ultimate end of all things.
No children left to remember you, no history, the end of all things human.

why did they censor the episode with Nick Cage music and not Billy Idol ??????

I don't think the Billy Idol song belonged to the Warner label so that part's safe for now.
