The orchestra I play in is plating this at a concert :) It's an AMZING piece!! Although, I really do not appriciate his extremly high violin scales... ¬.¬
Thankyou for putting this up, I'm helping to direct an English university production. Trying to put scene setting action in the overture is much easier when listening to it while planning it.
This piece of mucis has a magical effect on me. I really feel like being tucked in bed under a warm blanket with a good night kiss full of love on my cheek. The use of woodwinds is AMAZING! Thanks for posting.
The overture always moves me deeply...the whole opera is wonderful(though the plot's a bit juvenile) and the overture is gorgeous. thank you for posting.
nothing wrong with that... the main theme is a Prayer
"Abends will ich schlafen gehen"
If you look up "Evening Prayer from Hansel & Gretel" you'll find lots of renditions. the good ones always make me cry. At the end of the first act, the kids are going to sleep in the forest, and as they pray their evening prayer, 14 angels come down from heaven and stand guard around them. I've played the opera three times, and it always gets me... always. I may have one version in my favorites.
ach, wie Herrlich. Dankesehr, i will have to look those up. The part in the forest when they pray is my favorite part. my great grandmother or mother would occasionally sing me that piece before bedtime. sometimes in German, sometimes English
@PTCello How can you say the plot is juvenille, these poor kids are going to be eaten by a bloodthirsty, evil witch! Sounds pretty scary and gruesome too me. lol
@AliceElphabaWonka Ever see the Cloris Leachman version? She actually holds a butcher knife above poor sleeping Gretel in order to get Hansel to concede to her wishes. omg.
@AliceElphabaWonka Hahaha, at least it's better than what my aunt thought of the plot. She had never heard of Hansel & Gretel before. So when we left the opera, she couldn't stop talking about how disgusting and sexual it was (especially the witch eating children part), and she was being totally serious.
Engelbert Humperdinck, great son of our city. Greetings from Siegburg/ Rheinland

Alucinante, me encanta esta obertura, y la ópera entera! No me canso nunca de escucharla, una bonita manera de acercar la ópera a los niños ^^

Because you wrote that the libretto is "a bit juvenile"
