@mapleblackdrums yes it is, I was doing so earlier, and I like hearing the needle going over each bump on the record, it's very comforting when u hear it for some reason...
I'm a huge fan of Dennis DeYoung, own everything he does, and don't believe in the post-Dennis styx. However, it is quite hard to deny Tommy Shaw. Songs like "Sing for the Day" and "Man in the Wilderness" show amazing talent and are for me, very powerful and moving. I would suppose that if Tommy Shaw was never in Styx. Styx would not have been half as popular, and Tommy Shaw would be ten times more popular than he is and was. A powerhouse solo artist that rivals the best.
@kcndora Styx is still out there and kickin' a%# every night, still playing to Arena crowds at damn near the same capacity that they did 30 years ago or more. Even with the absence of Dennis DeYoung (He was fired from the band in 1998) and the late John Panozzo, The guys are still as good as ever. Current lineup is Shaw, JY, drummer Todd Sucherman, Ex-Babys/Bad English bassist Ricky Philips, Lawrence Gowan on Keys/Vocals, and occasional re-appearances by orig. bassist Chuck Panozzo.
GOD!!! I forgot about this wonderful song. Incredible musicians these guys are. I saw them live 3 times. Very underrated during this era. Thank-you for this post. Brings back a lot of wonderful memories for me.
"Styx is maybe the most underrated group ever. They never get the recognition they deserve. This song is a great example of that" Nothing more to say

God is this an incredibly underrated song or what? It isn't even on a lot of the greatest hits CDs that the record companies release for Styx every few years. One of Tommy Shaw's best, and that's really saying something.
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
On of the characteristics of Styx is their building many of their songs on older English, Celtic and European structures, including time signatures (6/8), instrumentation (synthesized flutes, lute like mandolins) and simple bass parts, usually octaves.
"Trivia" Tommy Shaw later named his little girl Hannah long after writing this song. He still performs this song with the remaining menbers of Styx. Great song!
This is the first Styx song I ever heard. In Dallas, one of the local rock stations debuted this album as it's first single--when in reality it was "Blue Collar Man" that was the first single. I fell in love with the band and bought this album as my first. I used to sit in my room listening to it on a turntable with headphones from cover to cover while reading the lyrics off of the insert. Been a fan for life.
MAN,,,when i left home at 15,,the only thing i had with me was one pare of pants two shirts ,socks,,and you know,,BUT ,the best is the 8track,s of all of the Styx,,i had ,,and i will tell you it kept me going in the good and hard times on to street,,,SO ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU
Gotta' love that Oberheim OBX syntheziser work. Even though Dennis thought too much of himself, there is no denying his musicianship and all of Styx for that matter. Nowdays nobody plays with the craft that Styx did. Nowdays they just get a drum machine and sing...well not even that...they bark meaningless crap and get awarded for that? Anyway Styx has left there mark forever.
Absolutely awesome stuff !! ... the 70s was the best era for music without a doubt .. I have a very ecclectic taste and love great musicianship (ELP ..respect!) this is a great song from a band the likes of which we will never see again .
I used to make my chart of one-hundred songs like the radios but this it was not included on my chart from 1979 cause I was confused if is was from 1978 but at the years 1978 issued the blue collor man that song was on my private chart
okey so I recorded the song on mp3 but my original chart on my own are at colecctions from Peru I hope your answer
I thought he wrote it about fans in general. Someone said there was an interview with him and he said Hannah represented the fans. Hannah is also the name of Tommy's daughter. Not sure if she'd like knowing she was named after a dog ..
