My daughter was very shy in her early teens. She joined band in 7th grade, playing trumpet. Her senior year, she was Band Captain, Asst. Drum Major, Trumpet Section Leader, Music Librarian, and played trumpet, French Horn & mellophone. She is now majoring in Music Ed & wants to be a band director. Music education is so underrated. We had very few music programs at my schools and I really dislike that. When it's so inaccessible that you can't fit the one section of a class into your schedule, you know it's too small.

at my old high school, the fine arts were the lowest supported department. The football team got more funds then us. :(

That's how it was at my high school. I hated it!!!! Honestly music and the arts will last you alot longer than anything from a sport will. Not all of those players will go onto be professionals and then they lose their "sportsman" mentality but music is for LIFE!
