Very nice! I'm quite jealous of you now. :P I'm still working on walk cycles in Blender. If I could make one suggestion if you end up super-fine-tuning it: I notice when the robot walks, his feet don't seem to stick to the base. You could fix it by having him move forward faster, and keep his legs moving at the same speed; or move his legs slower and keep his body the same speed.
Anyway, great job on the modeling, animation in general, and especially the after effects! Keep it up!!
Really cool and very inspiring! I am a film student who's been taking 3d animation courses using Maya(I love it by the way!), I'm really starting to realize all of the possibilities, incorporating all of the programs together. Wow.Next I'm learning AE for sure
Hi, I did the reflection in Maya by creating a cylinder shape and applying a glass shader to it then had the robot walk behind the glass to create the reflection effect.. For the 'Created by Michael' that was just bad masking and running out of time, just looks like the page is moving but its really just dodgyness haha
awesome, dude. Could you like make a tutorial for it, at least for the first part (the book one). If not please tell which techniques did you use. COOL IMAGINATION, DUDE
haha thanks, I'm far too busy atm to make a tutorial but I can quickly say that for the start of the animation I used the programs, Maya and After Effects. In maya I created a 3D pencil copied the exact real life version so all the lightning is exact then in after effects when the hand places the pencil down i masked the video pencil out frame by frame then replaced it with the 3D pencil fading that in as the video pencil disappears......
... For the pencil drawing of the character i used maya, first importing a still image of the drawing and making the 3d pencil trace the lines of the character i then imported that animation into after effects again where I composited it all together.. I used an animated mask to reveal the drawing as the 3d pencil animates across the page revealing the drawing effect... After effects rocks :)
soo good. only criticism is that the robots walking doesn't look too good - it looks as though hes floating across the surface. apart from that.. amazing!
Thanks for the comment, I'm actually re-doing the piece again for a major project this semester for uni so keep an eye out! The song is a Linkin Park song by Mr.Hahn DJ, Session from the Meteroa Album.
Hi thanks for the comment, I used Maya 8.5 for the 3D and After effects for the compositing + tracking, took for eva ta get things ta look half decent :)
Hi thanks for the comment i used a sony HD cam with mini dv tape to film this and to compress i used a mpeg4 codec from quicktime but boosted the kbit/sec upto like 1500 instead of the default 256!
Nice little film, but the walk cycle lets it down.

I really liked the details, such as the reflection in th glass. And the awesome shadows on the pencil. Very Well Done!
stokmarknes 3 years ago
good work, the shadows looks really nice. Just one thing bothered me a bit, the roboter slides to much in his walk.
