George Foreman in his prime would have smashed them all like a bug on a windshield....in fact he did exactly that to a lot of these guys. Cooney would have lasted maybe three rounds, tops. Norton did great against boxers who didn't have great punching power, but he usually got in trouble against dangerous punchers and brawlers. Shavers and Foreman also flattened Ken. To really understand Norton's vulnerability against brawlers, just check out his fight against Scott Ledoux. That tenth round spoke volumes. Ledoux had him out and helpless. The ref saved Norton and the fight was called a draw! Pure robbery.

An acquaintance of mine knows Emmanuel Stewart and a number of other professional trainers. They all said that Tyson was an all-time great, but unlike Holyfield, Lewis, etc., he was very poorly managed and it did a great deal of damage to viability and longevity of his career. Klit was beating Lewis when the fight was stopped because of cuts. Klit hadn't reached his prime yet and he could never get Lewis back in the ring. If Tunney is to be dismissed because of the size of the guys he fought, then shoulds Ali and the rest because todays fighters are much bigger.

@aitraining Well, I live in a building with the wife of a former heavyweight trainer, which included Tyson in his early years. An acquaintance of mine knows Emmanuel Stewart and a number of other professional trainers. They all said that Tyson was an all-time great, but unlike Holyfield, Lewis, etc., he was very poorly managed and it did a great deal of damage to viability and longevity of his career. So, perhaps you're just being an anti-Tyson tool here...

Plus Cooney had a mean streak. He beat up his sparring partners a lot as well. But he's a fighter. When someone told Chuck Liddell that a lot of UFC guys had "issues," he said, "Of course, we do. Some fighters just don't match up well with certain fighters or types of fighters.
Joe Frazier was a bad match and had no chance against George Foreman.
Norton the same with Cooney.
However, Norton was a great fighter and a boxing legend, and Cooney was not.
Cooney's career started out well, but it faded.

@aitraining I think "bum" might be a little too strong of a term. Cooney certainly didn't do much after this fight except give a game effort in a loss to Holmes the next year. IMO, I think the "Whacko Twins", Jones and Rappaport were out more for the big money than the long-term development of Cooney. Holmes himself has said that Cooney would have been champion had he fought anyone other than him that night, and Eddie Futch said that he could have made a great heavyweight out of Cooney.
