  • That was a bad job by the ref. Norton could've been killed.

  • norton was a great champion.

  • Norton was a paper champion . He beat very few good competitors , and could not deal with big sluggers like Cooney , Foreman and Shavers . I think in the documentary Champions Forever , Norton should have been replaced with George Foreman . It was Norton's

win against Ali and 2 rematches that gave him recognition or he would be remembered for nothing .

  • gerry cooney is amazing a great nice guy he workss so hard with his carer and outside it and is just a wonderful man

  • as shitty as reffin was back then & u wonder y these guys r brain dead. its not the sport its the officals that r killing it. well maybe now the fighters can be blaimed a little but the trash reffin must be noticed.

  • This negro was blasted he didn't know what planet he was on !

  • @1Amerikkka Then the negros got revenge and George Foreman Knocked Cooney out you racist piece of shit..

  • @1Amerikkka Negros owned Cooney you racist piece of shit , look what Spinks and Foreman did to him !

  • Wow! That referee is a fucking stupid mofo!

  • Fight went on 3 punches too long. 3 hard punches. Ref was a clown.

  • página deportiva

  • Former linebacker Ken Norton Jr's dad.......

  • When wa this fight ?

  • I never liked Norton . I am glad Gerry put one on him

  • He could have killed him when Norton was down on one knee. Why the hell didn't the ref stop that fight sooner? That was bullshit.

  • Norton was past his prime...

  • I came to see some Boxing why are there comments about colores this isn't the 50's anymore and comments about Homosexuality and ppl getting face fucked C'mon ppl just enjoy the Boxing

  • @Marc82193 ahmen

  • bro cooney was hitting him while he was on 1 knee that was bs

  • @1976GGus1 Hey I said i was sorry that I allowed your father to forcibly face-fuck you, sir! Can a simple apology be enough? Besides, you did find out a skill (sucking black cock) that you have enjoyed your entire life. So, maybe you should thank me.

  • @1976GGus1 Sir I really feel sorry for you in that your father molested you. I wish i could have been there to stop him as he forced you to suck his cock. Don't feel guilty that you enjoyed sucking your father's penis. God loves everyone, even fags.

  • @1976GGus1 I am posting factual information too. Your mother and sister, whom I happen to know, are both whores for black cock. Afd your father is a pedophile, and molested you as a young child. Its alright, its not your fault. Your father molested you, because he knew you were a stupid child, and he never wanted you.

  • George Foreman in his prime would have smashed them all like a bug on a windshield....in fact he did exactly that to a lot of these guys. Cooney would have lasted maybe three rounds, tops. Only guy who figured him out was Ali with the rope-a-dope but if George had just kept his cool he could have easily kept him laying on the ropes looking terrified and won on points.

  • @1976GGus1 Why do your mother and sister love to fuck black men?

  • @1976GGus1 LOL Gerry Cooney, the white man, is a rocket scientist! LOL!! LOL listen to him speak, he sounds like the "Missing Link"! LOL that is one smart Cracker!! I hear he's now a senior researcher at NASA, inventing alternate energy sources and studying the efects of ozone depletion on molecular DNA! Listen to how smart that white man is!!

  • @1976GGus1 Whe i listen to Gerry Cooney interviewed in this video, I'm always impressed by how thoughtful, and intelligent he sounds. Did he go to an Ivy League school? his IQ is through the roof, as he talks like a punch drunk bum from the Brooklyn gutter. That is one intelligent white man!

I belive he went to work for NASA after his boxing career ended.

  • @1976GGus1 I'm sure YOU look like a fuckin retard.

  • Cooney was pretty good although when he came back in the late 80's he was spent, just like Norton was here.

  • prime norton woulda killed cooney

  • @sliat1981 I'm not so sure of that. Norton always had major issues with punchers. He was excellent against boxers who lacked the power to shell him up, but punchers took his nerves away quick.

  • @1976GGus1 hahaha iq thing wow that clearly defines how smart you are

  • One of the few times I thought someone was going to get killed. This was a mismatch.

  • @Patriot751 sorry this was no mismatch,no way,its just went very bad very fast.these two guys were way way qualified and WELL MATCHE..NORTON had seen better days tho...true

  • cooneys left hook was way harder then joe fraziers, never saw joe do this to someone

no offence to joe of course

  • @toby099 how many of joes fights have you seen lol? the ali fights maybe? frazier woulda killed cooney

  • This negro was blasted he didnt even know what plannet he was on !

  • cooney's a bum even if he has a whopping left hook the guy has 2 high ranked wins the rest are against completely unkown fighters. he retired after losing three fights in a row ithink what a champion heart. if norton wasn't a geezer in this fight it would have been his first round ko because cooney had a weak chin

  • I saw this fight when it aired, and because Cooney got in those last couple punches, I thought at the time, he might have killed Norton,

  • 2nd hardest puncher of all time?

  • Norton feared certain opponents

  • I thought Foreman KOed Norton bad but that was even more brutal!!!

  • I met Gerry at the fight to educate in Manchester, NH. This man is incredible.

  • Ref stopped that a bit early in my opinion.

  • @Stevenana007 the ref could have stopped that sooner.

  • @kindofbluenyc Nah, Norton should have been given the chance to try to make it to the bell. Head clear in round 2 and then the fight's on.

  • @Stevenana007 are you retarded?

  • @ah93704 I was not being serious. I would have thought that would be obvious to everyone, except retards.

  • @Stevenana007 good sugar nipples

  • @kindofbluenyc I agree 100%

  • Lol. Norton was at the end of his career when he fought Scott. Prime Norton wins easy.

  • Norton did great against boxers who didn't have great punching power, but he usually got in trouble against dangerous punchers and brawlers. Shavers and Foreman also flattened Ken. To really understand Norton's vulnerability against brawlers, just check out his fight against Scott Ledoux. That tenth round spoke volumes. Ledoux had him out and helpless. The ref saved Norton and the fight was called a draw! Pure robbery.

  • @emoran001 you are absolutely right about Norton. Angle too, has a lot to do with it. those large, long, arms came at the head from an angle that was hard for Norton to defend against. Look at how he holds his mits, So when the shots come from outside as in foreman and clooney, Norton is defenseless. plus they are heavy bombs coming at him, same for Frazier. Whereas Ali, he is sticking and jabbing, and they are about the same height. but you covered it all pretty much.

    peace/paz/salam/shalom

  • @emoran001, you're right: Kenny Norton couldn't fight backing up and feared punchers.

  • @emoran001 I agree well said. Ken Norton def had a problem with big punchers which is why he could pretty draw with Ali, but got killed by Foreman and later on Gerry Cooney.

  • damn norton get owned by a bum!

  • @rtfuhj Gerry wasn't a bum.

  • bum or one hit wonder pick one!

  • Give Joe Fraizer arms that are equal in length and eyes that do not develop cataracts, hes the best heavyweight of all time and beats Ali at least 2 times.

  • You fools, how can you not list Foreman as nr 1?

Look what George did to Frazier, Cooney, Holyfield and Moorer, the last three way beyond his prime!

Foreman in his prime would have ko'd anyone. Ali tactic'd around George's blows, but that wouldn't have happened a second time.

Lmao Tyson vs Foreman. That's like a pitbull trying to fight a tiger. The pit might hurt the tiger a little, but two or three blows from the tiger and that little dog is gone for sure. Same thing with Foreman vs Tyson

  • @DolleHengst it doesn't have to happen a second time around, most fighters will only get one shot, so they have to win first time, george couldn't...then young whipped his ass, an if young could beat him, then so could a lotta other fighters...george didn't score many one punch ko's cause he was a clubbing puncher, tyson would've beat him

  • 1 "TOP HEAVY" of all time......Stormy Daniels!

  • examinfo

Gene Tunney has to be in your top ten and Dempsey is higher...

  • My top ten Heavyweights: 1. Ali 2. Joe Lewis 3. Jack Johnson 4. Larry Holmes 5. Rocky Marciano 6. George Foreman 7. Sonny Liston 8. Jack Dempsey 9. Joe Frazier 10. Evander Holyfield (maybe Floyd Patterson)

  • @examinfo 1.Gene tunney 2. Rocky Marciano 3. Vitali Klitzcho 4. Jack dempsey. 5. Joe Louis 6. Wladimir Klitzcho 7. Jersey Joe Walcott 8. Ezzard Charles 9. Ali 10. Holmes

  • @emoran001 thats crap...worst top 10 list i've ever seen...you must've read a nat fleischer book

  • @DrShittyBottomHammer That's the best top ten list you have ever seen. You're just too brainwashed to believe it.

  • @emoran001 oh right! vit the quitter klitschko at 3..the same klit whose ' devastating' punches an old fat tired disinterested lewis walked through and ripped his face apart, dempsey was as crude as they come, tunney only ever fought one guy over 200lbs ,and seeing as fight films of these older guys are few and far between then you gotta be trumpeting some other old timers views cause you just wouldn't have seen enough of tunney to rate him #1..nah, its rubbish

  • @DrShittyBottomHammer Ali wanted to quit in the first Liston fight. Dundee had to practically push him out of his corner to resume the fight. A short time later Liston quit or was forced to. Klit was beating Lewis when the fight was stopped because of cuts. Klit hadn't reached his prime yet and he could never get Lewis back in the ring. If Tunney is to be dismissed because of the size of the guys he fought, then shoulds Ali and the rest because todays fighters are much bigger.

  • Norton could not deal with big punching sluggers.

Even in his prime, Norton would have struggled with Cooney.

  • My all time heavyweight top ten list: 1. Joe Louis 2. Larry Holmes 3. Jack Johnson 4. Lennox Lewis 5. Rocky Marciano 6. Jack Dempsey 7. Joe Frazier 8. Muhammad Ali 9. George Foreman 10.Mike Tyson
  • @dropway9 you hold joe frazier higher than muhammad ali? you hold jack dempsey above muhammad ali? jack johnson? really? wow man i have never disagreed with someone as much as you. you should really watch some muhammad ali videos..

  • @bluflarp Ali was overrated....

  • @dropway9 I love how you have Fraizer before Ali but c'mon, Lennox Lewis #2? He got knocked out by Hasim Rahman.

  • @dropway9 Good list dude. I'm pretty close. Ali is ranked correctly by you imo. Overated. Joe Louis is my #1. Larry Holmes deserves top 5. I would rank Foreman higher as he killed almost ewveryone and won the title in his 20's and 40's. Tyson was a shot fighter at 25 and should barely crack the top the 10 as u have.

  • @aitraining Tyson wasn't so much a shot fighter by 25 as he was just very poorly managed. Physically, he was still pretty compelling after 25.

  • CyrusTab yeah yeah yeah... Poor tyson was "badly managed" u Tyson tools crack me up. Poor Mike lost his manager.... Like no other fighter went thru that.... ur excuses for this guy crack me up.

  • @aitraining Well, I live in a building with the wife of a former heavyweight trainer, which included Tyson in his early years. An acquaintance of mine knows Emmanuel Stewart and a number of other professional trainers. They all said that Tyson was an all-time great, but unlike Holyfield, Lewis, etc., he was very poorly managed and it did a great deal of damage to viability and longevity of his career. So, perhaps you're just being an anti-Tyson tool here...

  • @cyrustg Tyson was an all time great but he wasnt as accomplished as Holyfield. Tyson had great management but he gave it all away to his own demise. Rooney would have worked with him forever..Tyson got rid of him. Its all Tysons fault. He's an idiot. He should have stuck with the guys who got him there!

  • @ah93704 If Tyson stayed with Rooney and had some discipline he could have retired 60-0.

  • Comment removed

  • @DexterHaven49 You should have thought twice before making a racist comment.

  • Comment removed

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard your comment makes absolutely no sense.. what the hell are you talking about. why would i be ashamed of the fact that im from canada? oh, thats right. because i live on the same side of the world's hemisphere as you.

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard man your truly a disgrace to america, and all of north america. i live in canada and im ashamed to be even on the same side of the earth as you. ur name tells it all, your fat, your a bastard, and on top of all that, your american. so your one of those obese faggots that give north america a bad name, especially to the countries that musood6630 is from. how about u stop being a smart ass, coz your not funny, u just look like a dumbass.

  • Horrible ending, that asshole Cooney should have stopped punching sooner, Nortons hands were down for fuck sake, Cooney could have seriously hurt Norton.

  • @JRGrange25 Yeah, Norton was in a terrible position, crouching like that so he couldn't fall. But I blame the ref not the fighter. In the heat of battle, a fighter is on autopilot practically. Plus Cooney had a mean streak. He beat up his sparring partners a lot as well. But he's a fighter. When someone told Chuck Liddell that a lot of UFC guys had "issues," he said, "Of course, we do. We're pro fighters. What normal person does this for a living?"

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard .......hahahahahaha!

  • @ThirdWaySociety i agree i dont think norton is that good, but i dont understand what u mean when u say ali is overrated.

  • Comment removed

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard It's almost 2 in the morning I'm half dead, so if you expect some sort of Shakespearean Epic written to the fullest of English then you can go fuck yourself elsewhere. I'm pretty sure it's day time or something for you and you're wide awake. Uneducated moron? Wow, okay I guess that's a bit harsh but it's not like you seem to be educated yourself by the way you conduct yourself. Thanks for correcting me though, maybe when I'm half dead next time I will heed your remarks.

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard Again you resort to pulling something gay. I'm quiet sure you are the American one, where homosexuality is legal in your country. Would haves- OKAY thats my fucking perspective that doesn't mean you can just come in and say you;re right either. And okay cool man, I'm quiet sure that Cooney beat Norton on that day when did I deny that? EEErrr? Yeah stating the obvious much/>

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard Okay cool. Here you go with your freaking rant on homosexual erotic fantasies. Good on you. Yeah okay then according to your logic Danny Green > Roy jones Junior because 2 years ago almost Danny Green was on the good end of a 1 KO victory. Okay good logic

  • @bigfatAMERCANbastard No, I didn't mean it in that way. Norton was more ripped up than buff anyone so please shut the hell up. 1 round pumelling against an aging and out of training shape Ken Norton. I'm sure I know more boxing than you. I've been watching for 14 years and have studied the game till the old days so I'm quiet sure anyone who knows boxing would be aware that a prime Norton would rape Cooney. That's not to put Cooney down, he had the harder punch by far but Norton was more tactical

  • Terrible ref!

  • Ken Norton of the 1970s would kick Cooney's ass in 3 rounds and that's real. You can tell by Norton's body, when he was in real training he had the best looking body for a heavyweight boxer ever seen. Here he doesn't look spectacular. After the 3rd Ali fight Norton started drinking and slacking off in training. So fuck you Cooney you ain't anything special.

  • Cooney shouldn't have punched Norton while he was defenseless.

  • Wow....Norton took 7 punches before the fight was stopped that he really didn't need to take, he was stuck on the ropes and couldn't fall. I love boxing but fighters don't need to get hurt. Ref should have stepped in sooner

  • Cooney never beat ANY fighter in thier prime,he could'nt even beat a 40-something

    George Foreman,he could'nt beat a blown-up light-heavyweight in Michael Spinks.I

do'nt think he coulda beat my ex-boyfriend(And he was a REAL Scotsman!).You

will always be remembered as a JOKE!!. Great white hope.. HAH!!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes Cooney would knock out you're whole family..... FOOL !

  • @perciballid Don't be angry because i told the truth......And you're the BIGGER FOOL!!

  • Comment removed

  • He was in and out of drug rehab before the Spinks fight and had been inactive for several years. It was hardly a good measure of his kills

  • @ebeneezzer That may be true.

  • @AnnaAnnaYes

First off the Soviet Unions fighters were not allowed to fight in the USA till 1991 . Last i remember Eddie Chambers was in a coma, Shannon Briggs had every bone in his face broken , Hasim Rahman was knocked out of the fucking ring , and Sam Peter was left for dead , and Mike Tyson got dropped like a pile of shit . They all got beat up by WHITE heavyweight Champions ! Who is the great black hope ? HAH !!! fuck you negro !

  • @grandesbolas1 You need to grow up,you know Cooney is a joke,and the Klitch-whos

don't even compare to the Heavyweights of the past.Black or White, racism has destroyed

your judgement.Even guys like Marciano and Dempsey would beat any new fighter today

Get a Life!!,nobody cares about you!!

  • Worst ref of all time.

  • Lol wow.. Cooney destroyed him.. Norton was obviously passed his prime cuz I seem him beat Ali w/ skills

  • Lol... wow

  • The ref should have been sacked.

  • Norton usually didn't do well against big punchers. Shavers and Foreman also destroyed him early. He was even lucky to get a draw against Scott Ledoux. He did much better against boxers like Ali, Young and Holmes.

  • If Norton was prime this guy would be dead.

  • Cooney was pretty good but messed up his career, should have fought more.

  • Wheres the fucking ref? Waiting for Norton's head to roll in aisle 1. WTF

  • I got a chance to meet Ken Norton yesterday in Vegas and he is a gentleman although it appears he took to much punishment in his career.

  • @MattyIceDog78 Actually, I believe the problems you saw him having with his speech and coordination are more the result of a terrible car accident he had back in the 80s, and not the result of punch drunkeness.

  • They fed Cooney a series of "dead bodies".

Cooney lost to anyone who hit him back, even the pathetic Michael Spinks.

  • Hey Terap/Granberry

  • Any fighter can be beat, especially when there over the hill. Look at Ali, the graetest of all time loosing to some loser like Trevor berbeick or Laryy Holmes... Its all about age.

  • @tannerism1 Larry holmes a loser? are you fucking retarded?

  • Coony wouldn't of stood a chance on gods green earth in Nortons prime...

  • @tannerism1 I'd voted for Mr. Norton to be the person I'd least want to meet in a dark alley. Was he the one who broke Ali's jaw once?

  • Some fighters just don't match up well with certain fighters or types of fighters.

Joe Frazier was a bad match and had no chance against George Foreman.

    Norton the same with Cooney.

However, Norton was a great fighter and a boxing legend, and Cooney was not.

Cooney's career started out well, but it faded.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @LIVINGONTHEDOLE Norton never did well against a big fighter who was stronger than he was. Foreman and Ernie Shavers both beat him badly.Cooney was far from being a bum but he came up to soon against Holmes didn't do badly and then had an alcohol or drug problem and never realized his potential. Another case of a young athlete who couldn't handle success.

  • Kenny Norton was a true legendary fighter and if he was in his prime he would've destroyed Gerry Cooney easily.

  • Norton couldn't fight going backwards and couldn't take hard shots. His crab defense also left him open to hooks.

He wouldn't easily beat Cooney or any other aggressive puncher.

  • @ebeneezzer

I think he'd win. He had a very hard punch and he could use his hand to catch punches like he did against Ali. I know Norton wasn't very good against punchers, like Shavers and Foreman, but he was a great fighter against people like Ali and Holmes.

Cooney can't be compared to people like Shavers and Foreman. They were all punchers but Cooney was clumsy. Shavers and Foreman were really good.

  • I think that the ref stopped it 2-3 punches too late.

  • Gerry Cooney was a bum long term - but HS! he layed some crazy clean head shots at the end on Norton. I thought his head would fly off. .52 - .55 r just insane pops.

  • @aitraining I think "bum" might be a little too strong of a term. Cooney certainly didn't do much after this fight except give a game effort in a loss to Holmes the next year. IMO, I think the "Whacko Twins", Jones and Rappaport were out more for the big money than the long-term development of Cooney. Holmes himself has said that Cooney would have been champion had he fought anyone other than him that night, and Eddie Futch said that he could have made a great heavyweight out of Cooney.

  • the real white hope

  • @MirTheTiger Horseshit. Cooney beat an old man. The white hope label is even more horseshit. They're fighters for Christ's sake. But, if you really want to refer to a white fighter who fought the best in their prime and really could fight like a motherfucker, Jerry Quarry was it. In fact, Jerry Quarry is dangerous dead (God rest his soul)--to people like Cooney and those stiff -armed statues called the Klitschko brothers.

  • This negro got blasted

  • if ya aks me i think the refree called the fight too quick an shud have let it go on some more - it was fixed

  • @blueinfinite Yeah.. was called way too early, he should have waited at LEAST 25 more seconds.

  • @Ostrasize exactly thats my point he shdve waited and the fight cd have been a good one

  • @blueinfinite I hate when refs call the fight when people are laying on they ground, they should get into some ground and pound.. who cares if they're unconscious.

  • @Ostrasize when its a champonship fight ya know, yuou have to let it all out no matter whut, thats what i beleve

  • @blueinfinite And you know what , who really cares if you put spikes in your gloves, or bring out a knife mid fight, it's all fair game.

  • @Ostrasize thats what im sayin - nobody gets it but you - you are so kool, man, thanks for undrstandin

  • ref was too slow to jump in on that one.

  • Comment removed

  • Two good fighters.

Ken Norton is an all-time great.

Gerry got paid a lot of money and was never the same.

The hunger went away from him.

Gerry could have been a great one too.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • This looks so Hollywood movie fake!

  • @Cosmictalk What exactly do you mean? Are you suggesting Norton didn't take those uneccesary punches or took a dive? Your post sounds a little dumb.

  • @Maxshard It is what it looked like. A scene from a Rockey Movie.

  • Ken Norton was not a bum and neither was Gerry Cooney. Yeah, Norton was past his prime but he was still a good enough fighter to give up and coming heavyweights fits. But on this night, Gerry Cooney was better and if he had better promotion, he wouldn't have cracked under the pressure of being labeled a "white hope". He did just that in his next fight, against Larry Holmes.

  • Norton was just a flat out bum. People judge him by how he performed against Ali. Ali could make ANYBODY look like they could fight. Sometimes Ali would just flick little soft nothing jabs at a man for entire fights. Young, Doug Jones, Alfredo Evangelista, Floyd Patterson. Ali just threw soft jabs. Norton couldn't take a punch. Knocked out by Garcia, Shavers, Cooney, Foreman. Beat up by Scott Ledoux. Bum. That's Ken Norton.

  • @bangitslo Yes.bum,bum, BUM!

  • @bangitslo That's harsh, man! I don't think he was really a bum. He was very athletic, and that's wut got him there. He was an arm puncher, but when you have a physique like that, and you weigh 220, even an arm punch can hurt a guy. Glass chin? Every one of those guys were legitimate punchers and could ko anyone, the problem w/Norton was that he was fearful and choked against the big bangers. If u think you're gonna get ko'ed, you probably will.

  • @bangitslo I think you're being a bit overly harsh and quite a bit excaggerating with this. Consider this, Norton lost a 15 rd decision to Larry Holmes by 1 point in 78,Tko'd a still capable and dangerous Jerry Quarry in 75, and 1st round Ko'd 42-0 Duane Bobick in 77.

  • Quarry was the exact opposite of dangerous in 1975. He also took the Norton fight on very short notice.

The Quarry that took Ron Lyle to school would have blown Norton out of there in five rounds.

  • This was stopped too early. Norton was not on the canvas. Cooney PWNED this fool.

  • @wayupinya1 ru kidding? The ref saved Norton's life. Cooney almost took the guy's head off. Had to stop it.

  • larry holmes says that cooney hit "AS HARD AS HECK"! a really awesome/hard puncher cooney was!

  • cooney should have stopped hitting norton

  • This is so obvious that Norton could not stand up against the " big punchers of the sport .

  • @double42 he took on big punchers of the sport where most would said no he wanted to prove that he's legit no shame that's a true champ

  • @DeadMothernature Yes, I can certainly understand and respect that he did not fear the big punchers .

  • The racist comments on here are NOT warrented. The race card was played up big by the promoters in this fight, including Don King. However Gerry Cooney did not want any part of it. He said skill, not race, should be respected in the ring. In the years that followed he did his best to distance himself. He was a class act, and Ken Norton was as well.

  • cooney vs wlad lmao night wlad

  • That was brutal, Norton should of got the fuck out of there.

  • the little lefts to the body early in this round set up the ko.norton never liked it to the body.Thats how foreman and shavers set up their ko of norton.Ali had problems 3 times with norton because ali never hit anyone in the body!

  • this is muder 6 punch combo ever seen ok

kenny norton died on this night

    it was the grim reaper

    @

    playback from 0.49- 0.56

  • Like I said. Racist asshole...

  • @obeythepitbull Nice, I hope that makes you happy.
