Are you sure this is the correct wording? The Nine tell me the Bhagavad Gita contains much truth. Perhaps it has been incorrectly interpreted and it is "Spiritual duty" that is meant. However "duty" is a misleading word. One follows the heart that is in alignment with the will and the higher path. Doing things simply out of "duty" is embracing a lower vibratory path.
I didn't know that the Bhagavad Gita is so semantically particular. I don't see how 'spiritual duty' and path of the heart could be that much different. In my view, your spiritual duty, if you truly did agree upon it prior to birth, would also be where your heart's fulfillment lies.
My point, if it matters, the way the term 'follow your heart' is used these days, it can be a self-indulgent thing. So I was referencing a traditional scripture that informs us that really we need to hold our ground even sometimes when it feels like we want to do something else. I don't want to see people chasing whims and passions and calling it their heart. That is my concern, since the real call of the heart is steadier and deeper and is willing to weather discontent. It's all about finding that balance between existing within the current system, finding opportunities to change it & trusting the higher guidance that we can follow our hearts without doing something quite so drastic as Big Joe. This is one of thouse things I find myself and others around me have the hardest time with. Most people nowa-days are toled that there are so many things they "have" to do and relly never toled what they can do, and I find its allways easyest to do the least of your abilitys rather then the most. I'm currently taking time off from school, and while I feel that some people in my life want me to go back I don't feel that my direction is aligned with that choice. At the same time I am working presently for $8.00 an hour trying to pay my rent, so realigning my path has been an important struggle. I get very unsettled when I feel that I am not able to follow the path of highest spiritual learning in my life, but unfortunately bills must be paid as well, until we grow beyond a monetary system.
Everyone should go to college if they can. College is really coursework wherein you get a smidgen of knowledge in many disciplines. You can then go on to get a masters or phd if the particular subject and more coursework intrigues you. Then you get a certificate or diploma saying you accomplished all that. That's the real world. But what you learn sitting through all that coursework will stay with you until you die, you will be changed by it, and you will use it everyday.

My apologies for sounding like a know-it-all. I was merely responding to the practical aspects of gaining an education. Coursework can include boring subjects but one has to suffer through. Being real in life is the hard part. Looking back now, with all the hard work, boring classes, stellar professors, great books and more, the only thing I would be the selection of my degree and major. I chose economics to get it over with! I should have worked harder and chosen psychology. I regret it.

This is the way things have been that is true but it is this that The Nine tell me shall change. No one shall have to "suffer through" boring subjects with the New energies and the New education. Many are moving away from that now and have moved away - others will follow. But on the 3d level - you are correct.
