I bought an Acer netbook with Win 7. I backed up the files in the recovery partition and moved them to a backup hard drive. Then I reformatted my drive and installed XP and Ubuntu.

Now I am wondering if I it is possible to reformat, moving those Win 7 recovery partition files back and install Win 7. Then if I can install XP beside Win 7 and Linux Mint as well.

I'm just worried that somehow the recovery partition won't work to reinstall Win 7 after I recreate it.

You can easily find workarounds for most of these, Change background= Oceanis Change background Win7, DVD playback= VLC or Windows 7 codec pack found on cnet, there are a couple hundred ways to enable tranparency. Basically if you put forth a little effort you can make Windows 7 starter what you want it to be.

I don't see the big problem here, I'm getting a netbook with starter and it doesn't matter to me because all I do is use the internet and Microsoft word for school, the only thing I don't understand is netbooks are something for teenagers (12-19) and for college students MAINLY. So you would think that they would let you change the wallpaper on it or at least let you pick out of a few different colors like blue black red pink white and purple and still have the same background different color

I like how he tries to rationalize all the limitations, like not needing multi-monitor support, even when the computer he is using has a VGA port for just that.

Maybe it's a good thing they removed DVD playback. Customers will be forced to find alternatives like VLC and (hopefully) realize WMP was a joke.

Perhaps if enough people get fed up with these arbitrary limitations, they will start moving to Linux and discover a world of freedom, stability, and safety.

another correction: Windows did have Media Center, as in XP Media Center Edition 2003, 2004, and 2005! I don't use it much, but its nice if the pc is hooked up to a tv or something.

The video does a good job of identifying the differences between W7-Starter and W7-Home Premium. Regardless of the merits (or demerits) of W7-Starter, the take away here is that MOST people buy netbooks as companion computers for light duty work, surfing, e-mail, etc. and W7-Starter is fine for the majority of users buying them. As stated in the comments, there are many options for getting better performance out of netbooks, including upgrading W7, but this wasn't the point of the video.

Also, you can not share files FROM your Win7 Starter. So if you have a document you want to share to your desktop (safe backup) you CAN'T.

I've upgraded my HP Mini 110-3100 to ULTIMATE, and it does NOT take any more resources. Games, and other programs does lag LESS on ultimate!

It is not true that you cannot change the desktop theme on Windows 7 Starter. I have used Windows 7 Starter and happen to know that you can. To do this go to appearance settings and select Windows Classic. From there you can then change the desktop and task bar color by using the color picker,to any color you want. I have done it myself and have made a video about it here. Andrea.

He says it doenst support HD but I can watch youtube HD 720p videos with any glitch. I think I can watch full HD on it also beacuse I can save 1080p videos on moviemaker and watch.
