Haha, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, and John Mayall and otehrs all jammed together when they were young. They probably all influenced each other. No need to compare they all do their thing good when it comes to blues. I'm thankful for the blues they all did and do. Good post
I'm convinced after all these years that there is no greater composer and performer than Peter Green in the blues scene. Sorry for Eric Clapton, though he is a great performer too, but Peter Green is really the only man with such an incredible guitar-idiom and such amazing compositions like Albatross and Oh, Well, Black Majic Woman, Need your love so bad, Man of the world, he absolutely deserve a statue in the hall of fame, or wherever. In any case in my heart, So sorry to see him today
1979: Recording with Peter Green LP: In the Skies (PVK Records)
Tracks: In the Skies (lead guitar), Slabo Day (lead guitar), A fool no more (rhythm guitar), Tribal Dance (rhythm guitar), Funky Chunk (rhythm guitar), Just for you (rhythm guitar), Apostle (rhythm guitar).
@kptran98 White is indeed listed among contributors to that album, and according to Wikipedia, he " ...contributed some of the lead guitar work on the album, since Green was not yet fully comfortable with his return to recording after his long break.". But can you tell us how you're certain that the solo is White's and not Green's? It sounds enough like the latter that I'd like to know for sure.
Hauntingly beautiful solos, melodic and vibrato surpasses Clapton, goes into the silence of night, into loneliness, into the realms of God,past the Milk wayHera into the backbone of night.

the blues is all about space and timing, there is no better than PG. The almighty voice may have faded but the talent remains... Anyone who likes this needs to look up (on Youtube) his version of Got a Mind to Give up Living, its off the scale, voice and guitar.
I saw this guy at Farnham Arts Colledge in 1967. Sat and floor on the floor and wondered how much bluesey shit could come from a nerdy looking white guy.
The older version(much better!)can also be found on the "The Original Fleetwood Mac" .It takes them a few takes to get it right but it's an amazing version.
I see soo many comments about how this is from the "in the skies" album...altho this version is from the in the skies album its worth it to note that peter allan wrote the song back in the day and re did it for "in the skies"
You can hear it more in its original form on the live at the bbc sessions...different yet brilliant in it's own way...
Shinybald36, I don't think he's saying that VanHalen is any less talented per se, just that since the early 80's we've been bombarded with flashy and virtuoso playing that has made many guitar fans forget the power of the soul, and the mojo of the note. Hearing songs like this remind us of that fact. This song is amazing.
i just had a Van Halen fan in tears. I played him this and told him its the notes you play not how many you can cram into a riff for flashness. He was totally overwhelmed by Green's playing
they are too totally different styles, besides have you ever seen hendrix tab nobody complains about how many notes he plays, if you don't dig van halen, cool, but don't give us that bullshit philosphy, if somebody sucks they suck not matter how many or how few notes they play
@biggibson49 van halen is shit mate just like that dragonforce shit it sounds like he is making his guitar throw up , now peter green thats real guitar playing.
@LongLiveTheBlues Spot on my man couldn't have put it better myself ,fucking shredding nonsence. Think proper guitarist should check out the Like's of BB King, Muddy Waters, all the King's for that matter, Mk, John Lee Hooker, Muddy waters.
I bought this album about 20 years ago The price of the album times 10 is worth it for this song alone. I love slow blues and this is the most beautiful, understated, and elegant piece of playing (and singing) ever. I also have an earlier version of this song played live by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac, and this is way better. The way he builds tension in his playing is just stunning. The solo is amazing in its subtlety and beauty.
