  • Why in the world can't they just sing a song? If they sing a song that talks about sex,drugs...everyday life it's no big problem but when they sing a spiritual song it is?! Some people's lives are filled with 'spiritual things'. Go filter some other video with the negativity..please!

  • TEACHER I THINK YOUR DOING AN AMAZING JOB, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

  • Beautiful! Keep up the great work Teach! These kids will learn so much from you. AWESOME :)

  • Regardless of your beliefs PS22 stands for PUBLIC school 22 - they should, in no way, be singing religious songs. The separation of church and state exists for a reason.

  • @ThursdayTheNext You obviously are not a lawyer because you have no clue what separation of church and state entails in this country. It is PERFECTLY fine under US Supreme Court doctrine for these children to be singing these songs. I'd be glad to provide citations to multiple court opinions if you'd like.

If you weren't making a legal argument then I apologize and I'd be happy to engage you in a discussion of the morality/ethics of it.

  • @el757 Nope, I'm not a lawyer, and I don't play one on TV. I have, however, filed (and seen through) two lawsuits against my high school (when I was in high school) with the ACLU regarding separation of church and state issues. While this may not actually violate that clause it's still not OK. It's like the difference between reading the bible as literature and reading the bible as worship. You can't prove that this was being taught to teach music and not taught as worship.

  • @el757 It's also not fair to the students who are not Christian. Even though many faith traditions regard Jesus as a great leader, only one regards him as the messiah. The children who do not happen to be Christian are put in a tricky spot - do they sing, which they obviously love doing, or do they put themselves in a weird position by standing up against something they see as wrong?

  • First of all, the kids taught ME these songs, and they are beautiful. But these are not religious songs that are specific to any denomination of Christianity, or even any religion. I'm not Christian, and certainly not trying to indoctrinate them into ANY religion. The children say the Pledge of Allegiance to our nation "under God" every morning. Is that wrong?

Sharing in music from different religions is a way of celebrating our multicultural heritage.

  • @agreggofsociety

And whos to say that it's about the Christian God anyway? Who is to say whos God it is about.. maybe someone wrote it about their God, but others can interpret it in any way they see fit... that's the beauty of spiritual music.

Well done. A beautiful song Mr B.

  • @agreggofsociety Sharing culture and religion is a beautiful thing. It leads to love and acceptance for those who believe in different things from ourselves. Which is something we need more of in this world! Love it!

  • these are children and they are obviously enjoying themselves. Lets "adults" keep our religious and political views out of it and mind our own beeswax......

  • Ohhhh, Tirzah's brother is in the chorus ! Does he have an amazing voice like his sister ?

    ps: Yes, your chorus rocks.

  • I was driving back from Portland, OR this evening and was just thinking, "I haven't looked to see if there was a new video up." So happy to see the kids singing... :-)

  • Worth the wait! Soloists nailed it. Great work on the keyboard and percussion too! Everyone looked so happy!

  • Wow, is this the first time percussions were used in the chorus? I also heard an organ sound. Did you get a new keyboard with some added sounds, like strings, etc? That would be cool if it had a sequencer built in so you could do a full ensemble piece. Keep up the good work Mr. B!

  • goosebumps all over.

it brings tears to my eyes.

  • bravo a tous super !

  • Beautiful, beautiful music. Denise is AMAZING!! She sings with such joy. I love it.

That said, can we get back to contemporary music? So far, all I've heard this year is spiritual music. I'm sure Denise, Azaria, Marquis and the rest of the gang are just dying to bust out some rock and roll! Love PS22!!

  • @christineheneghan check out PS22's performance of MGMT's Kids for a healthy dose of non-spiritual music. It is the 2010/2011 chorus doing that.

  • @ChrisEchoes I just watched "Kids" Love that, too! A little hard to hear/understand in the beginning but they really rocked that one out. Thanks for the info!

  • i seriously want my choir to sing this. right now. this is amazingly beautiful. it's so simple and pure. *runs off to show this to her choir director*

*sigh* PS22... you have done it again :)

  • One of my favorites so far, Mr. B! Hope I can be a great music teacher like you some day. love, chicago

  • These kids have such amazing voices! I really enjoy watching these vids. Where is this located. We don't have things like this for our kids in the small town I live in.

  • Awesome - I love it! Thank you for sharing! I just dicovered ya'll a couple weeks ago and I have to say - I'm such a PS22 junkie - you even have a button on my toolbar. :)

One of the great opportunities singing in a choir presents is the chance to learn about other cultures, religions, history, languages, etc. Music has the power to build bridges and unite. This was a great song selection and beautiful, at that! Great job, Mr. B and chorus! Keep it up!

  • Thank you for having learned a spiritual song with them, Mr. B.!!!

    Greetings from Germany!

  • Is PS22 not a secular school then? What a shame.

  • that was great!

  • LOL the girl on the far left was laughing. LOL

  • So great!!!! Absolutley Raw talent!

  • Marquis really does a good job with the drum beat. I know I'd have a hard time keeping a steady beat and singing on a different rhythm.

  • Like the soloists, especially Marquis but are you going to have any new soloists? You have used the same ones over again.

  • @Mexipumas the school year has only just begun, no worries. you'll be seeing more soloists emerge over the course of the next few months. this particular duet required two soloists that could harmonize one on one, which didn't leave us a lot of options this early on. :)

  • LOOOVE IT!

  • I'd rather trust in Mr B. ;-)

At least we know he's real and can work miracles every other week.

  • Big smile. Like that too! A lot! :)

  • so coolllllll your kids make the day I am so glad that i found this site The BEST to all of you from Earl in Huntington Beach Ca.

  • " I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT!"

    Hahaa xD

  • great as always!

  • Those two sound really amazing together.

And I can't believe how well this new group has come together already. Sound like they've been doing it a lot longer!

  • @nudest101 quality over quantity... they can be challenged but not overworked

  • good job...thats right "trust in him" :)

  • Amazing as always everyone!!! Love hearing you every time. You give me butterflies and make me smile.

  • WOW!!! another stellar job.... love the high note at 1:25

  • WOW ... this was amazing ... made me wonna cry ... Denise is on a roll people. This girl is TALENTED!!! God bless this group :)

  • Beautiful!

  • Maquis and Denise are on their way to become my favourite singers this year :)

Great talent, both on the drums and on the voice ;)

By the way, this is just what i needed right now. I'm pretty sure we have a connection accross the atlantic :)

    Love from paris

    Juliette

  • Did PS22 turn into a catholic school or what??

  • @Bj23874 why do you ask that? do you have a problem with young children singing about God?

  • @jainae1 lol ya a huge problem with it?? No, these gospel songs jus put me to sleep tbh

  • @jainae1 I have a problem with it if PS 22 is a public school and I'm pretty sure it is. There are non-Christian children attending and perhaps even in the chorus. But, even if there are not, there are laws to keep schools secular for a reason.

  • @debbieomi why are you so against children singing about god in school? you must not believe in god. I'm sure that the children are of different religions. but god serves in all religion. yes i'm christian. I love the lord with all my heart. I see nothing wrong with children singing about god.

  • @jainae1 I am against it because it violates the Constitution that mandates a separation of church and state. And no, god does not serve in all religions. Whether I believe in one of the thousands of gods or not is not relevant. What does matter is that no child of any faith, or without faith, should be made to sing a song that is religious in nature, unless they and their parents agree to it.

  • @debbieomi what makes you think that those children are singing in a school choir with the parents permission? You seem very angry about this topic about god.

  • @jainae1 Of course they are in the CHORUS with their parents' permission. What makes you think I am angry about the god topic? I am stating facts, that's all. Let's not cloud up this thread with anymore of this. You are welcome to PM me if you wish to discuss this further. :-)

  • @debbieomi No need. your not worth further digusting anything. have a blessed evening.

  • @jainae1 And may the force be with you, also.

    :-)

  • @debbieomi Religious music can be performed at a public school because of it's historical and musical value- not the contents of it's lyrics. The history of music has its roots connected to the church. As long as the teachers don't preach to the students it is okay.

  • there so uh'mazing!
