People listen carefully. An animal need to be in a habitat that closely resemble its natural environment. How many lake or rivers have you seen with glass bottoms? Your turtle will survive without rocks and decoration but it is going to be miserable. I have owned dozens of Herps. Worked as a reptile specialist for years in pet stores. I know what I'm talking about. Also the rocks and stuff will host colonies of helpful bacteria which is necessary. for overall system health.
thinking of getting a turtle and put it in my 250-260 litre tank i have a fluval 206 filter and 2 air pumps and a backround that looks real, but i dont have so much gravel , i have 4 piranhas in it that are about 6-7 inches they eat goldfishes that are bigger then they are, do u think i can get a turtle in my tank? if so, can u tell me what type of turtle i can buy, how much it cost, how big they get, what they eat,and the requirements, and if i can order them at the closest pet store. plz reply.
@ELLA1683 yeah but think about it those extra things would probably make him feel more at home and safe if he can hide behind something instead of being so exposed?
@TheLevitzkinator LIKE I SAID IN THE DESCRIPTION.... THIS IS A VERY OLD VIDEO AND IF YOU DO RESEARCH YOU DO NOT NEED ROCKS OR SAND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. THEY ACTUALLY SAY NOT TO PUT ROCKS OR SAND B/C IT DOESN'T ALLOW FOR PROPER FILTRATION OF THE WATER. THEY DO HAVE A SHELTER IN THE TANK AT THIS POINT.
what do you think is a good or the best filter? im looking for an external one for having out of my 7 foot tank.. or what would be ideal for that as its 213 gallons?
I have an albino RES. Get Hypo RES WAAY BETTER. Also most albino's have poor eyesight and require feeding in dim lighting so the other turtles don't eat the food before they do. Map turtles make better aquarium turtles so do musk turtles.
It appears that you need to add some sort of a dry dock for them to climb up on and get out of the water...I bet they get tired of swimming..My turtle is not used to so much water. I have to teach him to swim. The previous owner didn't have much water in the aquarium for him..just enough to cover him...so he stays on the bottom and is a sink cork..so I am going to add water and teach him to swim..
I found my tank on craigs list, it is about 4 feet long and 2 1/2 feet tall. It is huge and a pain in the ass to clean!! I would recommend getting a 75 gallon tank. I would love to sell mine and get something a little smaller.
i give a million thumbs up to this setup! this is the only good way to house two turtles together! a lot of room, no cramped spaces. IT IS VERY SPACIOUS!
good job!! this is a very adaquit setup!
in addition to the tank, you should have a basking area, heater, and a filter (all of the right sizes) I am not saying you dont i am just telling other people! =)
You need an interior tank decorator

The main thing that shows a tank and that makes a turtle happy is an enviroment... You gotta have some rocks on the bottom and a shelter

That is an old video, but I had 2 docks for them to climb onto in this video. I have about 4 of them now, so they have plenty of space to bask.
Thats weird that your turtle doesn't swim. I've always heard the more water the better. Check on google, see what people are saying.

no that'll mkae it much harder for him to clean the tank. what he needs to get is a basking spot.
