  • The speaker looks like he gets a lot of masturbation points.

  • this is fucking dumb.

  • Great. I'll be sure to look more forward to seeing a whole bunch of adults in the future with minds of children. If this is where the simulacra is headed in the further creation of the hyper real, I want no part of it. There is no point to having a virtual world in an economy based on a point system. For those that support this kind of horseshit stand near a cliff, or point a loaded gun to your head; and ask yourself,"Is life one big game?".

  • I fucking hate games. Now I know why, the designers are ass holes.

  • Hey, you wipped your ass...+10 points for you. I hope this never comes to reality!!!

  • video games, and the internet (despite what Al Gore claims) were both developed by the Pentagon... in order to create mindless killers to staff their NWO armies. hello.

  • this is nothing new. read "Feed" by MT Anderson.

  • That is extremely unintelligent.

  • Real life would so much better with XP

  • its already here in infancy.

  • so my kids or grand kids will know what i did it with over the years of me growing up and laugh at the moments of me being to drunk and slept with something ill regret

  • Stop laughing you fucking sheep.

  • Im scared

  • For those of you who have misunderstood what Jesse was trying to communicate, please go here /watch?v=orBMJ-T2k3I

  • @rbc13183: this video you recommend, "The Pleasure Revolution", is about extending a more lush and all-encompassing Simulacra for the masses, to blend the real with the virtual, creating the hyperreal (see my video postings on Baudrillard). When reality becomes confused with virtuality, society can be bent into any form imaginable. Jesse is an elite front man, and he is totally transparent.

  • you all just lost the game

  • I highly doubt the government cares if I play Call of Duty for 23 hours a days. But I could be wrong, they could be watching me just in case another war.

  • ummmmm... what? Im gonna go put my penis in another human being. Be gone with you useless information!

  • Okay, this is ridiculous..calm down

  • "I do know this stuff is coming. Man, its gotta come! Whats gonna stop it?"

... We have got to stop it.....

These technological advances are not going to be used to "make us better people", they will be used to control every aspect of our lives. God help us all if this ever comes true.

  • what a terrible idea

  • What if there's a game where you collect points and are able to give them away too. So say your walking down the street and you drop your wallet and the guy behind you picks it up to get it back to you. I think it would be cool to give that guy a bunch of points to reward him for his honesty through some kind of digital device. So then with the points he received he can then use them on something, and what that is I dont know. Cool vid, great ideas!

  • I dunno you guys, I think touch screen Coke cans sound pretty sweet.

  • "Man, it's gotta come. What's gonna stop it?"

    Umm... Peak Oil.

It takes the energy equivalent of a gallon of gasoline to make a single microprocessor.

  • @Mr063067 Oh goodness! alternative fuels?!

  • @shiverrain It's more accurate to call them inferior alternative fuels. There isn't a practical alternative to fossil fuels.

  • @Mr063067 ""There isn't a practical alternative to fossil fuels.""

    Yes there is.....AIR.

Search YT for "air powered car", it's already made and running, plus there's multiple methods to make it run indefinitely by adding an electric air compressor to the car.

  • @NinjaRider777R And what energy source is transformed into electricity and then transformed into high pressure air?

  • @Mr063067 Just like the Prius, solar panels can cover the roof, converting solar to electricity, stored in batteries, ZERO emissions.

  • I think there are good and bad things about the future he presented. Hopefully, people will be able to set their *own* achievements and goals within the game system. If that is the case, then I see no problem with harnessing the power of games. The homework and health insurance game systems seem like great ideas, but I'm much less enthusiastic about companies using e-tatoos to advertise.

  • @dancelovr16: those that create, design, and control the "game" are the ones who will win the game.

  • i already hate points. its the main reason im not playing Bulletstorm

  • very disturbing

  • This doesn't sound disturbing. This sounds great!

  • Gtfo i dont need burrito wifi that tells me in some game i gained half a pound of weight

  • amoral......human ape females were behind all these points systems and this nutcase was obviously raised by a single, nagging mother

  • He basically organized a plan that companies might probably use now. The worst part is that...there's an app for that. It's an app that gives you "points" to eventually save up for airplane travel miles and iTunes gift cards. You get points for visiting stores and scanning products, with bonus points for specific specials each day. Pretty Scary.

  • @Monkeysarentcool : this self-absorbed techno-punk has never organized anything in his entire life, nor had an original thought. This turkey is just a front-man for others. He's sold his soul. For what, I don't know.

  • ಥ_ಥ - you watching this video.

  • That's why video game artists are offering us soooo many shooter games, so we can shoot everyone who tries to enable any of this disgusting shit. (And no, I'm not being sarcastic...)

  • Uhm, why is this titled the most disturbing presentation ever? This sounds way more interesting than how life is now.

  • Get rid of money! It's possible. It will actually BETTER society.. This is happening to us right now though. People being caught my the mass media...Everyone wears the "trendy" clothes. They buy the new phones and gadgets that they don't even know how to use! They buy games that they never play, just to say they have it.....Freaking fools.

  • @iamMarcusPolk Getting rid of money, especially a physical form of money, is NOT a good idea, it will only cause HUGE amounts of problems on every level of life.

  • @NinjaRider777R How would getting rid of money cause huge amounts of problems? Please explain. If the character limit bothers you, feel free to send me a message in my inbox.

  • @iamMarcusPolk Without a physical form of money small businesses will ceases to exist, many of them don't accept credit cards and never will, they're cash only businesses.

Economies all over the world would crash.

A lack of physical money would mean that giant corporations would have far too much control over the world economy, to the point where they would have more power than the biggest governments.

  • @NinjaRider777R First off, I'm pretty sure corporations already possess greater control than the governments. How? Lobbyists.

Second, I'm not talking about ridding the world of a physical money. No. Not at all. I'm speaking about ridding the world of money entirely. Read up on the Arawak Native Indians. No system of money. No laws. No government. No judges. No juries. But guess what, the people knew the boundaries. If someone stole or did something immoral, they were ostracized. NO MONEY AT ALL.

  • @iamMarcusPolk So you're advocating an offshoot of Communism.....not gonna happen.

Too many people would sooner line you up in front of a firing squad than ever let you even TRY to implement a money free society.

  • @iamMarcusPolk sounds like you have been watching en,wikipedia, org /wiki/Zeitgeist:_Moving_Forward too much.

  • The reason this sort of advertisement wouldn't work is because money is points too - more VALUABLE points, and you lose them by buying things.

  • Impressive. This is one of those rare visionary presentations that sounds ridiculous until you look back in 5-10 years and realize that it's actually happened. Smart guy.

  • That was fucking disturbing.

  • I wonder if anyone on Capitol hill would even think of tapping into this typeing into this information if this becomes true. People needing motivation to brush thier teeth by virtual reward? That's a world gone mad.

  • life is a game

  • @ 5:50: "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand..." Rev 13:16

  • Television is an amusement park, people need to stop accepting scraps when it comes to their freedom.

  • Mind = blown

  • Why don't people apply this to school? Isn't school just one big giant point-system? Grades are just a bunch of points. The more homework = points, test = points, assignments = points. If everyone is that obsessed with points, everyone would be doing a lot better in school.

  • Nothings Private anymore....

  • Book of Revelation in 10 minutes.

  • I hope I don't live until that day when this become all true.

  • Stupid sheeple.

  • "Our grandchildren will be able to see what we do." LOLOLOL

Like anyone would want to watch a bunch of self-absorbed, petty idiots earning fucking POINTS for doing things OUR GRANDPARENTS did just because they knew it made you a better person.

  • @jaraha I don't think fully understand, or you sound afraid...

If I could see books my fathers read, movies my fathers seen, companies my dad has supported and experiences he's had in the past because of systems like "facebook" and others, what would i find out about him? Would I be shocked to learn of stupid mistakes he's made in the past? What will my kids and grandkids etc. find if they could just go into a database like "facebook" to research what kind of person I am?

  • @Biddybalboa - and how much cereal you eat, and how much Dr. Pepper you drink, and how long you brush your teeth, how many walks you take, what books you read, what TV you watch.... These are your examples, not mine.

How about instead of needing to log onto some quasi-research website to find out what our parents and grandparents did, we instead talk to them and learn from their experiences? We don't need some privacy-invading monolithic technology to record our every action.

  • Tattoo link!! POP-TARTS!!! :D

  • a complete idiot

  • all of these things are voluntary. you don't have to participate if you don't want to. and you won't have to play these games even if other people do. its like drugs or gambling. but i can see the appeal, and therefore the danger of these things. the answer is just to not fall for it.

  • all of these things are voluntary. you don't have to participate if you don't want to. and you won't have to play these games even if other people do. its like drugs or gambling. but i can see the appeal, and therefore the danger of these things.

  • IF this silliness comes, I don't see it making "better people" I see it making a BUNCH of paranoid scared people, afraid to lose a point for not brushing their teeth...

This may sound outlandishly conspiracy-theory-ish, but really, they already want to control us more... this is an EASY way to make it happen.

  • This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I don't know about you but I'm not up for manipulation, thanks but no thanks.

And I don't want to live for points from the government, take a hike loser.

Game programers may need to get lives, along with the clowns that need distractions to feel better about live.

Facebook is already giving points. If you think about it, your working for .30 cents per hour. don't drink the kool-aid! Get out and create something.

  • yay crackpot conspiracy theorists have yet one more thing to be "disturbed" by

  • this sounds like a nightmare

  • @boogiebuddy01 It will be worse than this in 50 years.

  • And I will opt out of all of this crap.

  • @Aryaba

You hope it'll have that option, if this crap ever comes to pass...

  • @Aryaba Agreed.

  • i think im a little dumber after watching this video

  • Wonderful concept here, but his final point is flawed in my mind. A better person doesn't do the right thing because someone is watching, they do it because they want to help people, or do something nice. The sensors will make us better BEHAVED people, maybe eating better or reading smarter novels, but i don't think that consitutes a "better" person

  • this guy is talking out of his ass

  • At the end he talks about maybe knowing that every last movement you make will be monitored, it would inspire you to be a better person. My question is, better person by who's standards? The govt? Advertisers? Reminds me of 1984.

  • Egad ... I'll give someone 10,000 points to shoot this guy! ;-)

  • @justgivemethetruth

    do do do

    headshot! double-kill, triple-kill, MULTI-KILL!

    game over

    robo-fascist Destroyed

  • I will never play fantasy football. I will never geo-cache. Creepy shit.

  • CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

    CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

    CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

    CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

    CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

    CONTROLLED BEHAVIORISM!

  • @wardruglord the correct term is controlled stimulus and response. controlled stimulus - earning points, playing games....controlled response - more people buy stuff which is similar to games

  • You noticed some of the laughing is slowly going down a bit?

  • You shouldn't be rewarded to do thing that you should do on a regular basis. You should be penalized for doing things you shouldn't be doing. Plus, I don't want these sensors and things around me all the time. Its creepy.

  • everything is like a game now. it's kinda weird! technology is taking over! all these ads and these scores and no privacy!

  • they had to invent the proverb "don't kill the messenger" because it's just so damn tempting

  • This is why I am planning to go off grid and move into the mountains as far away from so called civilization as I can get, then out there the only people that can see me are the CIA spy satellites.

  • yeah its nice to get all those points..but he didnt talk about how u get penalized and your points taken from you

  • Come see Jesse Schell speak about “Visions of the Gamepocalypse” at the Long Now Foundation on Tuesday July 27, 2010 in San Francisco. I'm sure he'd just love to answer all your questions.

  • With all this super technology, your workplace still has a 1940's mechanical-punch time clock?

  • This is beyond terrifying. Why? It will all happen.

Do I get bonus points for typing 100 characters?

  • very interesting ideas in this speech

  • I am so deeply paranoid and scared right now. I have an addictive personality. @_@ ._.

  • Reducing every behavior that has an end benefit/punishment to "a game" is facetious; predicting that all behaviors will be eventually reduced to a game is ludicrous.

Weight Watchers is nothing like a game. It's like being too lazy to figure out calories. The comparison, and the presenter blatantly ignoring studies on how we actually respond to advertising, suggests little research went into this paranoid ramble.

  • @mokienatrix think outside the box. this technology CAN and most likely will happen. Plus, Weight Watchers is indeed comparable to a game because your "score" is how much weight you have lost since you started using Weight Watchers.

  • This is quite possibly the most Orwellian society I can imagine. There would be no such thing as privacy. Very Scary.

  • well, if they haven't thought of worse already, and I'm sure they have; it will be here, but if not, thanks for giving those marketing assholes a bunch of really shitty ideas. I'll keep my mind focused on us heading to LESS advertising CORPORATE mind invasion. what's gonna stop it, hopefully US! I'm as excited as the next person about the future advancements of on board pcu's but the PRICE is what scares me.

  • This has been brought up repeatedly, but the comment about reading "a dumb Star Trek novel", sums up the problem with this idea and others before it--Who decides what novels are "dumb" and what's groundbreaking? This sort of system won't make people lead "better" lives, but it will externally reward those maintaining a status quo while masquerading as a valid measurement of fulfillment. The modern/gamer take on the idea is really interesting, though.

  • @TEZlovesPEZ Yes, excellent comment. A reward-oriented society will simply create a status quo that reflects the goals and values of the reward-designers.

  • @globalbeehive I guess that is if you feel that he was being sincere about that comment, or if it was an ironic comment. (Think about it)

  • @globalbeehive this would be the next step to taking away our freedom. we would end up as mindless zombies trying to be like every other mindless zombie for some points that you can spend on things that make you evn more of a mindless zombie. This will give companies the power to control us like sheep.

  • @TEZlovesPEZ I would disagree. The person reading thought it was a dumb novel. Not the achievement. The achievement didn't care. If the things you like bother you so much that you're worried people will find out, then maybe you shouldn't do those things. Games and technology have a huge potential to expand society, not funnel it.

  • I find that going to work at an ordinary job is like a video game, where I earn a paycheck. The dollars in my paycheck are simply points in a video game, especially if I have a direct deposit.

  • I definitely like this idea. I think some people may get scared with the idea of sensors monitoring your every move, etc. But I think the idea that if we can compare each other on how well the other takes care himself, treats others and the environment, etc we would be more competitively motivated to do the right things. Would that be so bad? My only gripe is that such a system is limited by how well our best minds can implement it, so great care needs to be taken to prevent mistakes.

  • Citizen Sensors who are the first to report road pot holes (within Approved Daily Travel Routes) to Governmental Delegates, via the SeeClickFix service, receive 750 credits during the month of May. These credits are for travel to Zone-A vacations areas, and expire by July 30. Citizen Sensors failing to report road abuse will be asked to report for reprogramming at the cost of 100 credits per visit.

  • this is an extreme example of why I hate advertising, marketing, and PR. Gonna invoke Bill Hicks now, "If you're into marketing, kill yourselves."

  • I'm sorry, who is the speaker?

  • By the way, you can see the original full-length video by searching for:

DICE 2010: "Design Outside the Box" Presentation

and click on the link to the G4TV video. It's actually pretty interesting.

  • Boooooooo.

  • I love you, globalbeehive!!!

  • welcome to burger king, i love you...

  • I'm posting this because every time I do a pellet of food comes out of my computer!

  • The really scary part is who I see in Game Design classes

  • You are free to do what your government tells you.

  • Happy New Year! It's 1984!

  • Just remember to relax everyone.

1.) We are in control. If we start hating something we can stop doing it. If it is not popular with citizens then companies will adapt to what we like.

2.) Most of us do things that would get "points" anyway. Would it be so bad to get recognition and rebates for what you already do? Keep in mind, this was only a presentation and not guaranteed to happen.

We always remain in control, remember that. The future will be great, look forward to it.

  • @trekgeek1 - The establishment does not believe the content of your post best exemplifies the values and ideals espoused by the establishment. Hence, 500 points will be debited from your account and your Social Credit Rating is now a B-minus. The job offer that you received will now be rescinded, as it requires a Social Credit Rating of A- or above.

Travel to destinations outside your approved zone are also curtailed until further notice.

Thank you for being a good Citizen.

  • @globalbeehive Do I have to pay a toll to cross your bridge, too?

  • @HackPirate: Inappropriate questions such as questioning my authority will result in negative reports submitted to your Social Credit Agency in the future. This will serve as a warning.

As you are well aware, Toll payments have always been an essential part of keeping the community well funded and GREEN. All citizen sensors always pay their tolls with a smile and a Thank-You. We all know that failure to do so results in point fines & social credit score deductions.

    Please drive GREEN!

  • Thankfully, I'll be dead in the future.

  • +1000 points for banging that guy's mother! =D

    Good job bud!

  • Fuck this nonsense

  • cha cha cha chia

  • The System does NOT approve of your Comment/Blog Post. 150 credits will be deducted from your account for bad behavior. You will not be able to buy Groceries this week. Thank you. We appreciate your business. Have a Great Day!

  • @ globalbeehive,

Tatoo is spelled Tattoo, 10 points

  • I liked it, but some of it seems a little neurotic. I do believe it is all possible, but I would hope people don't let this happen.

  • This is simply a fascinating speech. I watch many TED talks concerning a wide variety of topics and no video has resonated with me as much as this one has thus far. I can clearly see the evolution of gaming from a social inhibitor towards a social motivator. Anyone who has experienced addiction to an MMO (e.g. WoW) can understand the allure of such arbitrary points and how powerfully they can affect human thought, emotion, and behavior.

  • exceedingly CREEPY. Human beings aren't windup toys, you know.

  • to many points

  • reward students with money in schools... i garantee u better results

  • If it's going to come, at least do it for something like health insurance and fitness. Inevitably would save the entire system billions. And I want to use my credit for acupuncture thank you, silver needles=more points.

  • T_T wish my class gave out XP

  • I don't think I will be playing.

  • If you've ever used the app My Town, this is a perfect example of what he speaks about. senseless "game" where you get points and collect money, but there is no way to "win" the game, you just get rewarded for cyber visiting stores in your gps area. virtual stores that represent your neighboring stores.

  • to me this just means that eventually *everything* will have to be modded or turned off when i stop caring about the next few points or whatever. that's so much bleak busywork. think of any recreational game and how simple it is to take a break. i don't need to take a *break* from life.

  • @whiteflagstoo : Why do you think iPhone's don't come with "off" buttons and their battery's can not be removed?

What do you think the Smart Grid (electricity grid) is being so quickly developed and deployed? There will be NO "off" buttons in this future.

  • Extremely scary...

People are already addicted to medication instead of happiness.

  • hmm well, if someone always knows what you were doing guess that would mean no more filing taxes...

  • Can you imagine the large credit reporting bureaus (Experian, etc.) being setup to handle and report-on our behavioral scores?

  • -7k points for fappin for the 3rd time today.

  • Interesting idea, but it's slavery.

  • how many points do you get for jerking off

  • @Savaril depends on the time you get to spit your juice...the faster the more points LMFAO.!

  • I'd be more successful in a video game world. I'd pwn

  • Comment removed

  • Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous?

Society get's what it wants.. And laws can be and are set to prevent things we don't want from rising. The world he describes is a joke. Lots of it is also simply illogical. Stupid. There is NO way that sensors/display screens would e implemented on disposable products like cereal boxes. Cost inefficient, and no one would pay for a screen you only use for a week. UGH, you guys are stupid for thinking this is a good talk... anyone agree?

  • @xnatey I'm not sure I agree. It may well be cost inefficient on a single product scale, but if the company is seeing enough income from the amazing advertising it would offer, not just for the product your using, but also similar products or what have you, it could be enough to justify them doing this. As for laws preventing it coming into place simpl ybecause we don't want them... a lot of not so great decisions have been passed that the public didn't approve of/ didn't even know about.

  • @somethinrother ya you're right.. well, I'm still not sure, but I think that makes sense (especially the ad point). Concerning the laws.. ya i thought of that too.. but still.. we do have quite a bit of power, and I see it as likely that we (the general population) would be able to counter this, but it could go either way I suppose. thanks for your controlled logic

  • Bahahahahaha! SOMEBODY doesn't know about moores law, and the technological curve *cough xnatey cough*

  • @ubentu good for you.

  • Ah, virtual skinner boxes for the real world... is anyone else totally freaked out by this? To make every aspect of life an addictive game of pushing buttons for pellets... um, excuse me, I mean points?

  • Great, let's increase the insanity of the human race by several levels through this implimentation!

  • though some of this sounds like a great idea, other parts are not so great. if the world really became like this, i'd probably move out into the woods just to avoid all this shit, honestly.

  • I will love if such thing happens. But don't u think this is just gonna make ur dumber !

  • Bonus points of j@ckin' off in the shower? And you sons and your sons' sons will forever know how many Jacks and Jill went down the drain, yes a truly memorable piece of family history.

The rules of society compel and in the world he presented it you're either in (and a huge tool) or you're out.

The bottom line: what he is describing is a big invasion of privacy.

  • i could see people sharing "gear scores" like in wow except their life scores..."my life score is 3k" and people will be like "holy shit this dude is awesome at life"...except in the end we all fail at life cause this is totally not cool...this guy assumes that every person is complacent with A) technology and B) advertising.

  • @gofudgeyourselfx dont think that anybody can escape Advertising even if you are aware of it.

The concept of this guys is not so funny.

Camera on the street was an image of autoritarism for poeple like Orwell, Wells, Moore... but now, it s so common that poeple didnt even notice them or worst: they ask for more for safety !!!

So why not points bonuses ? it seems stupid right now like "camera everywhere" was 50 years ago

BTW: each television can easily become a two way emitter

  • the connection is so forced with what reality could be, and he is not that funny, couldve done a better job but w.e

  • There is no human being on earth more punchable than the self-proclaimed technological "visionary" evangelizing about a nightmarish hellscape of endless cartoon sound effects and flashing lights.

  • very deep

  • Should have covered the dark side of it, too. You sound like an RFID salesman.

  • Down with this game-wash and go out and just enjoy life and be human in every way,but remember there's a thin red line somewhere out there-in our minds and once we cross it,we may risk losing our human identity. Mr. Gameboy-stop gamewashing us and some gullible idiots and find other ways to make a buck, 'coz it all boils down to it!Stop fooling people into buying your creepy ideas!!!

  • You can hang point tags on everything and then what?Do you, people, really realize what he's saying?I mean - LOOK BEYOND all this 'coolness'. Read the message! We are most likely to end up getting yourselves enslaved...Very disturbing guy with very disturbing ideas...

  • Doesn't what this game nut is actually advocating and promoting constitute a suicide-the demise of our human-ness?Do you folks really want to turn into lifelong game-freaks?Some of the stuff may sound exciting, but hey - give me a break - not ALL our lives should be devoted to point-scoring!He's taken it way too far to the point that we're going to be driven and motivated by earning another point, rather than because we really understand the WHYs -i.e. what we do something for. A creepy man...

  • he kind of exaggerates, but he sure gets his point across

  • Brave New World Revisited. This is what that exactly is.
