can anyone tell me what the white thing was which appears to come out the atmosphere then flys offinto space is please ? 25 mins 44 seconds and why just after they loose vieo footage ? looking estranged
Was the condensation caused by the water byproduct of the cryogenic fuels, or was it just due to weather conditions. Oh wait, i didnt even know falcon 1 had no cryogenic fuels and operated trough liquid lox. Which makes it both cryogenic and the source of energy at the same time. Cryogenic or not, its 225 minus degrees celsius,
Im sure the vapor is molten ice.
Talking about ice, there is almost none to see, how do they keep the
And that is perhaps one of many reasons why space x rocks.
Really cool to slightly witness the vapor condensation on the camera lense as it slightly diminishes as it gains altitude and loses atmosphere on the way.
I hear a background hum in the video. Sounds almost like there's feedback, but then I stop the video, and it stops. An error in recording the video? It's low, in the bass range.
Keep going, SpaceX, do NOT stop now! Keep building rockets, keep putting them in space. Fly space crews to the ISS or wherever they need to be. If NASA can't do the job of getting people into orbit, then YOU do that job and do it well. God Bless, and good luck!
look at 22:40 just before the engine nozzle. For a split second it looks like a ship of some sort. Sure it's nothing, but god damn, there's something there
The Russians have been long doing construction horizontally with Soyuz launcher and Progress ferry, based on Soyuz spacecraft, and I think they've done so with Soyuz manned capsules too for years. They've had to keep costs at minimum for decades, even before the Soviet Union fell, while still keeping their system reliable.
It's nice to see really private industry doing a light launcher system, but "man-rated" or truly reliable system is way further away than a simple light launcher.
@Redsayema Why would you say such a retarded thing even though your looking at said thing that cannot be? Your a typical youtube idiot. Go hang yourself.
@lassiecox Wait a second here...your gov't is cutting up Nasa' budget in pieces, creating an amazing void in space-tech leadership. Second, wouldn't be the gov't' role to help develop technology to be spun-off into the private sector later on. Your country is based(mine too anyway) on capitalism and not on old Russian based communism. So, good for SpaceX for creating shareholder value, And to thing that the republicans are touting that Obama is about big gov't...BS to me
in stead of using RP-1 you should use liquid hydrogen it is more powerful and can be made easier. you need to split water into hydrogen and oxygen then freeze it into lox and liquid hydrogen
@JRhalo14 It takes a LOT of energy and effort to keep liquid hydrogen cold enough to stay liquid. −423.17 °F/−252.87°C. RP-1 is less efficient, but safer and easier to work with.
@JRhalo14 I'd really leave it to the rocket scientists, kerosene has a higher energy density, is easier to store, easier to pump, and is a readily available resource. Do you know how much energy/electricity it probably takes to bring that much gasseous hydrogen to a liquid state? Its probably more environmentally sensefull to just burn the kerosene than to freeze and burn the hydrogen. It makes alot of sense for a cost and carbon footprint sensitive private program.
ok i guess that counts. So Pegasus was the first air launched, and CSXT was the first ground launched. However CSXT did not orbit a full rotation of the earth. It went up, and it came back down just a few miles away. It looks as if this project here made a full orbit or more around earth, thus making it the first privately developed vehicle to make 1 or more full rotations within Earths orbit.
Sorry, can't read. But it's launched from an aircraft that takes off from the ground, so consider that to be a reusable first stage. So it sort of counts.
dear propulsion teams out there, could a engine that collects background radiation and electromagnetic energy become real.i see in my minds eye this would be the way forward.time and any speed we would care to reach could realised may be.but i dont think i would like to be the test pilot.
@hobgoblin1216 totally agree in the fact that space exploration future lies with the private sector. I come across alot of people who don't want the private sector to go into space thinking it should remain the domain of NASA and the likes.
yeah just give up on life then cause of some no evidence conspiracy theory there gay boobs right? go hide in a cave and spare the rest of us from your weakness.
Not so much, a Malaysian news site just reported there are problems with the launch vehicle which will require at least six weeks to repair. Six weeks? What'd they do, crush the stage or destroyed an engine?
It has to do with properly securing the payload for vibrations etc. If you want to know more do a google search. This sort of thing is quite routine..
It's not "quite routine" to have a spacecraft designed for a specific launch vehicle ending up being too sensitive to vibrations produced by that same vehicle. Someone screwed up on this - either the satellite wasn't designed right for the dynamic environment of the LV or the environment was more severe than the predicted in the Payload Planners Guide, but it is NOT quite routine.
Luckily, the rocket has performance to spare for this payload so they were able to install a vibration dampener.
Spirit of American enterprise... melting pot, whatever. In the best American tradition anyway! I'm sure even Canadians are welcome to put up great companies.
Looking forward to Falcon 9. And thinking of all the problems with Ares 1 we have to realize that SpaceX might become much more important than just an alternative to buying Progress flights from the Russians. (IF there is an alternative launcher for the Orion heavyweight it will not be Atlas 5 or Delta 4 Heavy, it might be the Falcon 9 Heavy.
I'm not sure it could be the F9 heavy in that the Ares V heavy would be more powerful than even the Saturn V, which to this day is still the most powerful rocket ever built. It *could* be but I don't believe it is specked for that.
That said, you're right. With the Constellation Program having issues, SpaceX and Orbital may be playing a much larger role than we originally thought.
I wrote about the F9Heavy being a possible "Plan B" for Orion by replacing the Ares 1 (!) not the Ares V. (Elon has still some steps to take before having Ares V capacity. But so has NASA, and Mr Musk is at least thinking about it.)
Here it is from The Space review, 2005 "In past talks Musk has hinted at the development of something called the BFR (where B stands for big and R for rocket), a heavy-lift vehicle far larger than the Falcon family of vehicles"
You're right, I was reading in to it too much and trying to replace all Ares rockets with something from SpaceX. I do think it would be possible to replace the Ares I with something from SpaceX though, but it would still need some love. Actually, I think we're saying the same thing at this point :)

the first five minutes of this video are like porn for science nerds.
The narrator goes like "a turbo-pump fires RP-1 rocket grade kerosene and liquid oxygen into the engine generating over 78,000 pounds of thrust at sea level" and you can picture some fat 35 year old guy in his parents basement with his pants off going like "mmmm...oh god yeah, I love it when you talk dirty" *fat guy plays with his nipples* "yeah, so much thrust, oh god this makes me so horny....mmmm"
Lol. That's actually standard practice for other launcher companies as well if you've ever watched a launch broadcast - giving overviews of the vehicle, flight timeline and payload carried onboard.
Yeah, one of those nerds is Elon Musk, who's worth now is 300 something millions of dollars, and he has a bunch of ladies to help him playing with nipples, you looser.
amazing acheivment of science - lets hope this spurs more companys to reach into space which in the next 10 years will be exteremly profitable first with tourism then with material and energy mining. the final frontier is finaly going to be explored!!
The way it takes off amongst the palm trees makes me say 'I want one of those for my backyard!' Is that bitchin or what?? Gotta win the lottery first tho...
This is a great achievement, not just for SpaceX or for Elon, but for the entire country and world even. This shows how private industry is moving to the forefront of space exploration in LEO- and it's about time. Great job!
Excellent job SpaceX! You are definitely inspiring all of us including our young children who have also been following your achievements and much anticipated success! Congratulations from all of us!
Fantastic job SpaceX! American human space flight is now in your capable hands for the next several years. This is just the beginning. I am proud American private enterprise is reaching for the stars.
Incredible. But why is this news so low key? Is the American public distracted on something else and not realized that they made history? Then again, because it's probably that it's a Corporate Private achievement, and not a national thing.
It was a big weekend for space. I think China's fist EVA took the spotlight, but I'm with you, we (I mean SpaceX) should have been a little more publicized.
A huge congratulations to all Spacex employees. Aviation came as far as it did due to visionaries Like Elon and his team. Unfortunately there are way too many people that do not recognize how important this work is to mankinds future existance. I am a pilot flying cargo jets but wish I could be contributing to your efforts. Keep at it for all of us who wish we could.....Thanks all !!
This was a long road for SpaceX but there is much more to come. SpaceX is going to blow everyone else right out of the water!! I am very proud of my husband for all the time and hard work he has put in. I love you babe
wow congrats...that was an awesome launch, the engines gimbaled perfectly and the nozzel was nice and stable with no oscillation..hats off to you guys
i WiSH i WAS THERE ....BUT i'M S0 PR0UD 0F MY DAD,RAUL 0R0ZC0 AND MY NiN0 T0M NAVARR0,THERE TW0 PE0PLE 0F THE THREE PE0PLE i L00K UP T0 NEXT T0 FRiDA KAHL0 AHAHA 0NE 0F MANY SUCCESSFUL FLiGHTS !! i GUESS UR 4TH FiGHT WAS UR CHARM ...KEEP iT UP SPACE X !! C0NGRATS !!! :] Y0UR HARD W0RK SH0WS
It's water in ordinary ice or compacted snowy form. Liquid oxygen in the tanks is so cold that water vapor in air (while the rocket's on the pad) condenses and freezes onto the rocket. It can stick for a long time in flight, it slowly sublimates away and occasional jolts shake bits and pieces loose. It's perfectly normal and quite expected.
SpaceVidcast recently became a YouTube Partner channel. Original content, lots of views, all that stuff :) As such we can upload longer videos, which is great for things like launches. Takes us longer to get it online, but I think it is worth the wait.
WAY TO GO SPACEX!!! My husband still has a job!!!! I have watched this from the beginning, and all the hours my husband has put in on this. This is amazing!!!
This was a test of the Falcon 1 vehicle. This was flight 4 and the first one to reach orbit. There was no real payload, but now we know they can make payload delivery once that time comes. Flight 5 is just around the corner.
SpaceX is developing the least expensive space payload delivery system the planet has thusfar seen. They will change everything.
Well this is great news for the people who put tueir soul and effort to make this happen and to actually break trough the Ozone and reach orbit, this is a great step for you guys Congratulations. So no help from NASA? and if so Will you guys be working with NASA and JPL? Thanks for the reply.
am0767 is right. The engines (as well as pretty much all their hardware) are built in Hawthorne, California and are then shipped to McGregor, Texas for qualification firings.
OK!!!! My bad, lets all get our panties in a bunch. All I know is my husband bust his ass for SpaceX and I am very proud of him and all of the men and women that work here in Texas
No problem, I wish them all the best with the upcoming Falcon 9 maiden launch. Been eagerly waiting for that launch, hopefully there won't be any significant delays as some folks are predicting.

GO SPACEX GO!!!
After watching Elon Musk interview made me wonder, either he is so blown away by their success or he really really high (probably both)

what it all that debri?
namitsu1 3 years ago 3
It's water in ordinary ice or compacted snowy form. Liquid oxygen in the tanks is so cold that water vapor in air (while the rocket's on the pad) condenses and freezes onto the rocket. It can stick for a long time in flight, it slowly sublimates away and occasional jolts shake bits and pieces loose. It's perfectly normal and quite expected.

lol wtf how did you get all 40 minutes on here? Nice job as usual SpaceVidcast & SpaceX!!
digitalimpulse 3 years ago 3
SpaceVidcast recently became a YouTube Partner channel. Original content, lots of views, all that stuff :) As such we can upload longer videos, which is great for things like launches. Takes us longer to get it online, but I think it is worth the wait.

WAY TO GO SPACEX!!! My husband still has a job!!!! I have watched this from the beginning, and all the hours my husband has put in on this. This is amazing!!!
christiew924 3 years ago 3
Pass along our congrats to your husband as well!!! What area did he work on?
This is the future of space flight, IMO!

can you tell me what the mission was about?
Knockturnall1 3 years ago 6
This was a test of the Falcon 1 vehicle. This was flight 4 and the first one to reach orbit. There was no real payload, but now we know they can make payload delivery once that time comes. Flight 5 is just around the corner.
SpaceX is developing the least expensive space payload delivery system the planet has thusfar seen. They will change everything.
spacevidcast 3 years ago 2
Well this is great news for the people who put tueir soul and effort to make this happen and to actually break trough the Ozone and reach orbit, this is a great step for you guys Congratulations. So no help from NASA? and if so Will you guys be working with NASA and JPL? Thanks for the reply.
Knockturnall1 3 years ago 2
SpaceX does not get help from NASA. This is all done by the men and women who work for SpaceX
christiew924 3 years ago 3
It was just about testing the Falcon 1 launcher (rocket), which is the first privately owned orbital launch system now.

This is great for SpaceX, its great that they have come this far.

My husband builds the engines here in Texas
christiew924 3 years ago 4
actually, the engines are built in so cal... then tested in texas...
am0767 3 years ago
Not to be rude but do you work for SpaceX and if so where? ;)
christiew924 3 years ago
am0767 is right. The engines (as well as pretty much all their hardware) are built in Hawthorne, California and are then shipped to McGregor, Texas for qualification firings.
ugowar 3 years ago
OK!!!! My bad, lets all get our panties in a bunch. All I know is my husband bust his ass for SpaceX and I am very proud of him and all of the men and women that work here in Texas
christiew924 3 years ago 2
No problem, I wish them all the best with the upcoming Falcon 9 maiden launch. Been eagerly waiting for that launch, hopefully there won't be any significant delays as some folks are predicting.
