Carl Sagan seemed to pursue everything courageously. He took the evidence for strong claims, and it seems that he meditated (not spiritually in the common sense) and thought about the theme with no restrictions. My personal hero.
I'm really tired of Atheists. Okay- you have your beliefs, so stop trying to cram it down everybody elses throat. Carl Sagan was Agnostic - More so Pantheist, so stop.
@JigglesJingle haha, you're funny, you are telling us to stop trying to cram "it" down everyones throat, what is "it" exactly, atheism means one thing, lacking belief in god. everything else is up to the individual. but im sure you knew that.
also only theists "cram" things down other peoples throats, trying to get it tough in schools, coming to our doors and all that nonsense, please stop being a hypocritical tool and educate yourself on the situation.
@theUKatheist It seems like every single person on the internet is a Atheist and attacks every other belief specifically Christianity. I'm not Christian, however all I see are Godless pricks cowardly joking, and slandering others beliefs. You look at God as a personification of deity, I don't.. I view God as something different in which case we're all connected. I'd assume you're a typical keyboard warrior, with "atheist" in your name. How typical.
@JigglesJingle I see God ad fictional. Nothing more. Calling us names like that just boosts our perception of you being intolerant and childlike. You clearly have never even spoken to us properly you simply assert your opinion , call us names and think yourself victorious with your ranting and reaching , which is typical.
You said a lot without actually saying anything. You care to try again but without the childish name calling and silly assertions? Also hypocrisy comes to mind.
@theUKatheist It's true though. Aren't you a Godless prick? Theirs enough proof for me because I actually study science, biology and physics. We're all connected biologically, and to the Earth chemically, and to the Universe atomically. God (energy) is infinite, and through this and bonding of particles creates life. We're the Universe itself(God) manifested within itself(subjectively). To just simply dismiss it, without offering anything else makes no sense to me.
i dont dismiss what exists, i dismiss that you call them God.
if you think God is the universe and energy then WHY ARE YOU CALLING IT GOD??
I would be more willing to discuss this with you but you have already shown to be a child who is not worth my time by calling me names before even debating anything.
you are rather a troll or an ass hole so i don't wish to speak to you. Also don't claim victory, being an ass hole is not winning.
@theUKatheist We have a different definition of what "God" is. I am the God of my life, and you are the God of yours - Do you not have control ? Moments before, during, and after.. everything within the Universe was connected. This energy"spark" I call God. Gods particle, the Higgs Boson. Do you have Skype, Yahoo or MSN ? It's easier. Many people rely on others truths, but facts are facts. You cannot change fact.
@JigglesJingle oh come on, really? We are the Gods of our own life and we have control? Hell no, we have some control yes but not much. We can't control other people and events, we can't control the randomness and nature, they effect us and our lifes therefore we don't have control of our lifes.
Sorry but this is not an argument for any kind of God, you are asserting things that already exist as God. Why do that? Also do you even know why its called the God particle?
@theUKatheist You are only in control of yourself, cognitive thoughts, feelings, actions. Everything within the Universe has a frequency, as the Universe on a macro scale is one energy. Atoms are not solid - for they're vibrating, densely compressed close together. Your definition of God is one a Mythological figure with a white beard floating in clouds, mine is one that's life itself and everything within the Universe all from the same fabric. Atheism is the exact opposite.
@JigglesJingle Open your eyes, bro. Look at what's in front of you. You have a family to attend to and a job to work. Stop wasting your time with this shit.
@JigglesJingle prove anything you just said, then prove it is god. its ridiculous to just assert it and change what we know to be true into a god. if thats what you believe then fine, just dont argue it with me if you have no proof for it and al you can give is your opinion.
@theUKatheist Everything I said is factual backed up by science and physics. Let's exchange emails so I can get in-depth to put things into perspective your young eager atheist mind. It's not what we know to be true-it's what we know to be fact. Life and conscientiousness would be my definition of God. You bring life into this world, you play the act of God. If something, can come from nothing.why is there life then ? Your arguments fall back to agnosticism because you cant explain
@pistolpete667 Dawkins is far more famous as an atheist than he is as a scientist. @pistolpete667 Except that he wrote a book about it, sorry if this a strawman argument, but Martin Luther King was entirely motivated by his religious beliefs, what would Dawkins say? Yeah, yeah, we should give you equal rights because the flying spaghetti monster says so?
@davidfgranger he wrote that book based on his scientific knowlege and social understanding. science itself debates religion thats why religion is for the most part wrong. hes also written books on evolution. mlk wouldve lead a civil rights movement regardless of his religious beliefs if not him someone else wouldve. thats the nature of what happens within an oppressive society
At the very core, everything inside and outside of this Universe is made up of the same energy, which has always existed and is not separate from us, i.e. "God" did not come before us". Our essence, our consciousness or soul is the same energy present everywhere. Our exterior forms are temporary and superficial, like a cloak that separates us, that keeps us from being united.
There was no "creation" event per se. The Universe has always existed in some form or the other. Sagan wasn't an atheist. I, like Sagan, am more inclined to believe in "Consciousness", an all pervading energy, the whole which is the sum of its parts. Energy can manifest itself as matter. E=MC2
Sagan was spot on with this lecture! The Universe has always existed. What we know to be the Big Bang is simply energy manifesting itself in the form we now know it to be. It didn't come out of nowhere. Before the Big Bang, the size of the Universe was extremely small, but it was not nothing. It was something. The Big Bang is the rapid expansion of the Universe from a small size. The Big Bang is still happening and will continue to happen till the Universe stops expanding.
Christianity teaches worship of god. Who does god worship then? In all the glory and perfection when everything is just what is there to look up to? This is the pin point of Christianity. In all of gods perfection there is nothing to look up to but there is a perfection to be admired. At the same time god can send sinners to hell but never pays for the sins himself. How ironic. You see how he addresses subjects with a sense of curiosity and lures the viewer into his point of view and not just talk to make other people look stupid for his own selfish need to satiate his ego? Yeah, why can't we be like him?
@47pibo Aristotle asked many of these questions, so saying they were only dealt with in religion and myth qualifies as a diss in my book, especially considering some of Sagan's comments about Aristotelianism.
@Obiturtle your asking if God is not a real entity with unlimited power and the creator of all things, but is instead made up, at first to explain the unknown, and then to gain power, and to this day is simply a tool of imagination, and is only the result of the "dreams of men", does that make him less important?

[1]
@paulio2293 ROMANS 1:16-32...U would b wise 2 read this Scripture + not trust a sinful, carnal, unrepentant + un-spiritual human being. Ur eternal destiny demands u use ur own brain + make ur own decision based on the above Scripture...
@The3in1trinity You've no idea how ineffectual it is to quote the bible to someone who's outgrown religion, do you? You might as well try and knock down a wall with a feather!
@midnightowl401 JUST A BOOK???? you believe this video crap. dude this is sooo unreal. even if i were an atheist i would not believe this crap god is real everyone fights against it because it is true. you fight it cause your wrong. im sorry when im in heaven and ill be looking down seeing the regret on your face for not believing god and knowingthat i told you so.
@iluvEastonTurner ... you just tried to argue in favor of the existence of god using "Pascal's Wager"... wow do you have any idea how irrelevant that argument is to actually arriving at a logical conclusion? That's like if I told you "if you don't believe in an invisible unicorn, it will punish you to eternal torture"... just because you want to avoid eternal torture, doesn't mean it's rational to believe that an invisible unicorn actually exists. The same is true for other religious myths
@iluvEastonTurner ... that's a nonsensical argument. Once again, you're trying to convince me to believe something based on Pascal's Wager. Do you realize how irrelevant that is as an argument to a skeptic? You're arguing that I need to be afraid of hell. This presupposes that I agree hell exists... Don't you get it? I don't believe hell exists. You would have to convince me that hell exists before trying to argue that it would be a scary place. Where would hell be?? Where is it?? hmm?
@iluvEastonTurner We don't have evidence that there is anywhere to "go". Our entire definition of "going" anywhere is based on living experience. You seem to be suggesting there is a "soul" that leaves the body of every human to go to some other "place" after life. We have no evidence of such a "soul" or "place". Many religions impose fear of punishment if you do not believe what they say. Just because we may find comfort in a belief system, doesn't mean that belief system is actually true.
You ask where did I "come from"? I'm a collection of atoms. When I was born it's not as if those atoms which form my body came into existence that day. They existed ever since the universe has existed. Those atoms "came from" stars that are now gone. And like Carl says, even if we assume a universe came from some kind of "god"... that doesn't solve the question, it just creates a new question: where did god come from
Also, just bc we're alive doesn't mean we have "souls".
@The3in1trinity And a Muslim can say the same exact thing to you: "How dare you worship a man claiming to be god! There is only one God, and Muhammad is His prophet! Beware the Hell you are going to if you do not repent and follow Allah!" This is exactly why non-religious people can't take your threats seriously. Not just because there is no empirical evidence of a Hell, but because multiple religions make the same claim that those who do not follow their god(s) will spend eternity in Hell.
@paulio2293 and isn't it funny how our ignorant dumbass leaders keep living on, and so many of our prophets, teachers, true voices of and for the people keep dying unnaturally young? I'm so sick of that. Bring back Lennon, Sagan, JFK, RFK, MLK, our REAL leaders, and trade death these homicidal clowns running things. We would see a better would almost overnight.
@paulio2293 No the world needs less arrogant fools and more humble folk like Willam Paley whose simple analogy still devastates atheist in their quagmire of confusion.
@whiteliketar I can guarantee you that William Paley's watchmaker analogy doesn't devastate an intellectually fulfilled atheist with a proper understanding of evolution by natural selection. So cut the bullshit friend.
@paulio2293 Fools are always kings in their own world. The idiot Carl sagan got his answer years ago. The Bible thumpers always had it right. What a wasted life this man led ...spreading confusion like a pied piper and leading others to eternal darkness. That should get atheists frothing at the mouth. lol
Carl Sagan seemed to pursue everything courageously. He took the evidence for strong claims, and it seems that he meditated (not spiritually in the common sense) and thought about the theme with no restrictions. My personal hero.

@The3in1trinity The bible is a myth, fully of stories with "facts" that explained things that we have explained now. PM me so I can pwn u.

@midnightowl401 JUST A BOOK???? you believe this video crap. dude this is sooo unreal. even if i were an atheist i would not believe this crap god is real everyone fights against it because it is true. you fight it cause your wrong. im sorry when im in heaven and ill be looking down seeing the regret on your face for not believing god and knowingthat i told you so.
iluvEastonTurner 6 months ago
@iluvEastonTurner ... you just tried to argue in favor of the existence of god using "Pascal's Wager"... wow do you have any idea how irrelevant that argument is to actually arriving at a logical conclusion? That's like if I told you "if you don't believe in an invisible unicorn, it will punish you to eternal torture"... just because you want to avoid eternal torture, doesn't mean it's rational to believe that an invisible unicorn actually exists. The same is true for other religious myths
goldensleeves 6 months ago
@goldensleeves well i know im right and i will be sorry when your in hell and im in heaven.
iluvEastonTurner 6 months ago
@iluvEastonTurner ... that's a nonsensical argument. Where is it?? hmm?
goldensleeves 6 months ago
@goldensleeves well where do you think your gonna go when you die?
iluvEastonTurner 6 months ago
@iluvEastonTurner We don't have evidence that there is anywhere to "go". Our entire definition of "going" anywhere is based on living experience. You seem to be suggesting there is a "soul" that leaves the body of every human to go to some other "place" after life. We have no evidence of such a "soul" or "place". Many religions impose fear of punishment if you do not believe what they say. Just because we may find comfort in a belief system, doesn't mean that belief system is actually true.
goldensleeves 6 months ago
@goldensleeves well then where did you come from... also everyone has a soul or we all would be dead so there is proof there is a soul
iluvEastonTurner 6 months ago
@iluvEastonTurner
You ask where did I "come from"? I'm a collection of atoms. When I was born it's not as if those atoms which form my body came into existence that day. They existed ever since the universe has existed. Those atoms "came from" stars that are now gone. And like Carl says, even if we assume a universe came from some kind of "god"... that doesn't solve the question, it just creates a new question: where did god come from
Also, just bc we're alive doesn't mean we have "souls".
goldensleeves 6 months ago

@paulio2293 No the world needs less arrogant fools and more humble folk like Willam Paley whose simple analogy still devastates atheist in their quagmire of confusion.
whiteliketar 1 year ago
@whiteliketar I can guarantee you that William Paley's watchmaker analogy doesn't devastate an intellectually fulfilled atheist with a proper understanding of evolution by natural selection. So cut the bullshit friend.
mewboy5 11 months ago
@mewboy5 - I wouldn't challenge you on that one...I would never say that an atheist in his foolish self contrived world would be unfulfilled. lol

@paulio2293 Fools are always kings in their own world. The idiot Carl sagan got his answer years ago. The Bible thumpers always had it right. What a wasted life this man led ...spreading confusion like a pied piper and leading others to eternal darkness. That should get atheists frothing at the mouth. lol

Maybe another name for God could be "Nature"
-- or "Reality"
-- or "Cosmos."
We are all walking, talking stardust --
this cosmos become AWAKE,
looking back at itself . . .
Thank you, Carl.
