If the US is so concerned about reconstruction, instead of giving it to their crony contractors, they can do it through the myriad of international aid organizations present there. And the US should overcome its paranoia on India and China increasing their strategic reach in Afghanistan and let companies from these countries carry out their infrastructure projects. Having the cake and eating it is one thing; having a cake, eating it and expecting it to last and last is plain stupidity.
