With all this ridiculous production & staging that Richard Wagner could never have dreamed of, why doesn't someone just downsize the orchestra and let a jazz quintet play combo arrangements, or let a DJ with 2 turntables perform it. Wagner didn't intend it to be performed that way, but why not? Leaving the music in 1860's and putting a plastic, Walt Disney treatment on the production doesn't make much sense.

Even Hitler, with his rather superficial grasp of Wagner, would disagree with you. There's a reason why he would always cry at the end of Gotterdammerung.

When you seriously think it through, the Ring is extremely hostile to racist and xenophobic ideas.

It's ultimately about the same idea of a Female/Sexual Jesus persona that defines almost all of his music dramas. It's all about love, nothing else. There's a lesson here.

From what production ist this clip taken? Is there a dvd available from this production? It seems quite remarkable and reminds me of the fuituristic melchinger-production of the early 70is in kassel.
