  • It's a bloody parrot for crying out loud, get a life.

  • love this video however do not buyfrom the Big chain stores At least check out where they are getting their birds i have found them in my area facking hacting certificats and lyeing about their age it is bullshit

  • I adopted a little guy.

    His story is at:

    watch?v=zIsolS4vY0I

  • My cockatiel is a rescued bird. He's cagebound and after many attempts at letting him out, I deemed it cruelty to continue forcing him if he wanted to stay inside. Instead he has a large cage which I'm always buying him new things for, and we sing, play, and even beak-to-nose through the bars. There's also this strange chase game where he runs after me, then I run after him. Like tag without the contact. Even agoraphobic birds can have fun. So worth adopting a friend, you fall in love so hard.

  • @Huvagach - I adopted an abused bird I renamed "Penny." She was cagebound and fearful. She gradually would let me scratchher back through the cage bars. Here's a video: /watch?v=1qAiJ7rHcOg

She later made up a kind of peek-a-boo game. I'd say "Where's Penny" and she'd kind of hide. She'd peek out and I'd say "There she is!" She could do this for hours, 'til she'd run over to the bars for a back scratch. Video at: /watch?v=f5lnhb7iEeI

Finally she left the cage: /watch?v=r_5drFwPhMA

  • This was a very touching video.

I'm making things like this myself, and I wonder if I may use the pic of Bea at 2:16?

I would be very grateful if you let me, and I will show you the finished video.

  • @Skywalker91 sure!

  • This video really makes me upset how people could do this to an animal. A bird who is suppose to be family.. A friend.. I have 2 cockatiels and wouldnt trade them for anything in the world. I havnt had them real long but there already family to me. Pete is 2 years old and is underweight. Im working with him now to get more weight on him. He says hes a pretty bird :). And he is!

Penny was in much better condition but both need some help trusting people again

  • this video was soo touching. i just bought a parrot 2 days ago off a couple of people who basically left it in the very far corner of there house with no interaction.. i almost cried when i walked through the door to see the gorgeous bird locked up in the TINIEST cage ever.. she could barely turn around in there.. when i brought her home i IMMEDIATLY put her in a massive cage that could fit about three more birds in and shes really happy shes not tame but with love and attention she can trust me

  • We adopted from someone who loved our baby for the first 4 yars of here life.

She is the most spoiled bird in the world and thou we are old and she is young her future is planned out for her to live a long life within one family with people she knows and loves.

I will say this if you take on a parrot with out the same commit you would give a 5 year old child, you should reconsider these are not pes but a part of your family

  • It's difficult to find rescue birds where I live, although I have bought several Cockatiels from pet shops that were less than ideal, including one girl with deformed wings who was being practically given away because she "couldn't fly" - it turned out she was just so malnourished she was too weak to fly. She was only with us for 18 months but she was loved and well-fed and had friends.

Adopting is a wonderful thing to do, and I would do it exclusively if I could.

  • I stumbled across this video by accident. A month ago we got a scared, skinny lil pastel budgie. We could trace 8 homes behind her. She lived in her cage with no interaction. A month of care and talking to her she is slowly opening up. She has bonded with my son who is 2 and doesn't talk. They are so sweet togeathor. Thank you for the video!!!

  • @dianjohanjonker Seeing the poaching of parrot photographs are the hardest for me to see :(

  • Good vid , yes adopt and research b4 for u buy , my nelson came from a home that was unloved , he was even feather plucking , now hes safe with me wouldnt part with him , type in gordypie into youtube to see him ;-)

  • @gordypie how is his feather picking now?

  • where is christine now? I miss her - and Id love to check in on her!

  • @SukisMom I don't know where she is. I would love to know how her birds are.

  • I watched this....cried.....couldn't watch it all.

I have an african grey that I love SO much...These birds NEED live, just like you and me.

  • Wow made me cry! I have 30 birds including 8 parrots. Most of them are rescues from neglect and abuse. When I bring them home I promise them that this is their last one no matter how bad or nasty they are. After many years my blue fronted amazon 28 years (15 homes) finally trusts me enough for a little rub on the head. He couldn't cope with changing the newspaper in his cage. The paper was once his only toy. The last home tried to rehabilitate Poko but was unabled. He then came to me.

  • @dodoegg76 Good for you!! I hope your amazon learns to trust you even more.

  • Your video was beautiful. 6 out of 7 of my birds are rescue birds that have made it. People like you inspire me. Not every bird I've seen has made it either, so I know how hard it is. Thankyou for sharing.

  • @Melqueenofevil thank you. There are so many more people out there who have done lots for rescued parrots.

  • your a wonderful person

  • @parrotfreak2121 There are many more who have done plenty more than me. If you take in only 1 bird that needs TLC that is all that counts.

  • Its really really touching video... I do hate people who abuse those wonderful parrots out there... I tried to rescue few in my area from their owners. But all I got is reject. :(

Well.. I miss my little grey, the one who died in my hands because of a disease he got. Now I got another grey, and I don't think I can live without her, she's now part of me, a part that without it I feel that I'm nothing. And I ask everyone who watch this video, to rethink about their parrots! They deserve anything

  • @Balkhi356 what kind of disease? :(

  • i work fo parrot rescue and these people do excist who dont care about these birds, but also excist us people who love without wantinganything back just to see happiness in these birds eyes owner or 3 parrots and rescuer of parrots in uk,do u know a bird in danger or neglected please get intouch x x x

  • I made myself watch this as I didn't want to pretend this doesn't happen. I cried so much that I had to stop the video and compose myself. It also made me want to go and wake my TAG up. I love him so much I wouldn't part with him for anyone or thing. He's the best thing to have happened to me and I count myself blessed to have him in my life. I cannot imagine my life without him or remember life before him. He's made me the person I am. Without him I admit I'd've been self-centred.

  • @astonchenko I love reading about people who love their pets so much :)

  • I just cried my way thru this. Linda you are the light for many wondrous creatures. Thank you.

  • Why dosent this have more views? and good job

  • @FLIGHTSIMEXTREME this doesn't have more views because most people don't want to watch something depressing. trouble is...we all need to know and see this, so we don't forget it--so we will make sure we stop it from continuing.

there is a lot more subtle abuse of birds than anyone will admit--mostly because so many people think that keeping a large bird confined in a cage (never coming out) is acceptable. they believe these birds are "just animals." NOTHING will change until THAT changes.

  • I can't believe this doesn't have more views!!

I have had six birds given to me over the years, two of which are still with me today. Three of them were were given to me by family, one from a friend of a family member and two from strangers. They were all in good condition, nothing like the birds in this video but one of the birds, Juliet, was a bit sickly. It may have just been old age but Juliet could never fly and she seemed to have trouble walking.

  • As a matter of fact, your Jamie reminds me a lot of Juliet in the way he walked. Juliet passed away in November on the 11th of 2008. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. Jamie was a bird with a lot of spirit.

  • ONG I bawled.... I have 3, One was a was an adoptions, I don't understand people... We already have provisions in place for if we go before our babies,, My children know, I love my babies more then anything but I really really think it should be illegal to sale My heart breaks everytime I go to my bird store and see all the babies and the returns.

  • Wow! This was deep...... great vid!

  • As the mom to 2 rescued birds I thank you for this post. So very sad to see these beautiful creatures suffer at the hands of ignorance

  • Wonderful and heartbreaking. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for making this.

  • all of our birds are rescued. four Quakers and two Cockatoos. a needed video for sure. thanks for your rescue work.

  • I am thinking about getting 2 African Greys in about 2 years and at the moment i am collecting information about parrots. Your video realley motivate me to rescue the birds instead of getting them from a breeder. Thank your for that!

Your work for and with the birds is unbelievable valuable. I hope you will always get back all the joy und fun you gave them from them or anywhere else. May good bless you, because you bless some of his weaker creatures!

    Many greetings from germany!

  • Thank you. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to give a bird a second chance at human kindness and love.

  • This is very beautiful and inspirational video. It amazes me at the ignorance of people. People buy these animals b/c they're asthetically pleasing not knowing how long they live, their NEED for socialization, and prolonged care. It's great to know there are people like you who make an effort to give their animals the life they deserve.

  • Jamie passed away Friday, November 6, 2009. I miss him so much. My heart is so heavy, it is hard for me to breathe with the grief I feel

  • Thank you for posting this video to help promote rescuing. I encourage everyone I can to adopt, don't breed or buy. Research is so important, and I am so glad you encourage this.

I hope you ask everyone to forward this video to all their friends, and ask them to do the same. That is what I have done with my rescue video, "Macaw Betty in Parakeet Cage 17 Years". Kris, my Geronimo's bird nanny, is telling the story of Betty who lives the life of a princess now.

    Blessings,

    Linda Kershaw

  • please please please give us an update on Hank and jamie it would be a shame to lose such beautiful birds. you are an amazing person. please give jamie a hug from me and and please send a big hug to hank and please let his family know he is in my prayers to get better. best wishes and many more years of smiles and cuddles for the future. Sonicbeans

  • Hank is not my bird, but I do know the owner. He is not doing well, he is in palliative care now. Jamie is okay, some good days and some bad days. Thanks for caring.

  • Jamie passed away Friday November 6 2009 in my arms. He went into kidney failure. My heart is broken.

  • im so sorry to hear that about jamie he was such a sweet little guy and i am glad you got to spend the rest of his life with him and made him happy and healthy as he could be with the injurys he had jamie was a very special little guy who made an impact on every one who saw him while he was with you in person and through youtube. you are a very lucky person to have had the time with him that you did. you did a fantasic job caring for him while he was still with you jamie will never be forgotten

  • Thank you, I miss him so much. I wish he never died :(

  • did the bird die

  • That is pretty much the saddest thing I've ever seen. Idk how these people can hurt something so beautiful! I am a BIG animal lover. I want an African Grey Parrot but I can't have one until I live on my own because my parents don't want animals. When I do get a bird or birds I will definately adopt!

  • i am so amazed by these birds. i had a lovebird when i was 13 and several parakeets and even they needed more than i thought a bird would need. i would never get a parrot because i couldn't give them the attention i need now, but probably when i get old and ready to retire.

  • Got bless you, danita4.

Those bunches of wild-caught greys remind me of the famous 1977 TV miniseries ROOTS.

  • Yes, it does kind of :(

  • Fantastic work ..this really does you proud ..I can hardly see now cos of the tears ..Gillian

  • This tore at my heart like no other video I have ever seen on you tube needs to be forwarded and forwarded . so difficult to watch but an eye opener to those who do not realize what is out there for sum unfortunate birds ... 5 stars !

  • Here here.. the message is very strong.. but needs passing.. this video had me in tears but Im glad I watched it... Just makes me realise how much i love my African Grey..

  • wonderful and very sad video.

  • I adopted a ten year old African Grey called Casey from townhouse dwellers who only gave him seeds and apple so "he could not mess" their little house. I love him and could not imagine our household without him. He now eats everything and is a happy and loved bird. He does not miss his former owners...

  • Oh great!! My Bea did not even look twice at her last owners. I changed her name and she just loves it. All day long "Beaaaa" If I call her the old name, she doesn't even look, flash her eyes or anything

  • I think there would be fewer unwanted birds - and pets in general - if the owners knew what they were getting into and made sure that if they sent their pets to live with someone else, that those pets would be loved and cared for. For me, birds are companions, not ornaments or playthings. I think that the larger parrots, or even smaller parakeets, can be good therapy animals, helping people with speech or other difficulties.

  • I got chills... and tears. I wish more people would think to adopt. Though I'm afraid I'm not one to talk, I got my Meyer from a breeder friend of mine.

  • excellent video

  • great vid, hard to watch.
