  • How is the open stance that much different from squaring up?? I can see that your shoulders are not perfectly square when you shoot, and I would agree that you don't want to be perfectly square when you shoot, but how much difference is there in "open shooting" to square up shooting?

  • People hating on this guys shot, but he shoots real good. Everyone is going to have different form because everyone is different. Nothing is WRONG with his form. The only exception is his set-point because it's considerably low. The setpoint does not matter as long as the elbow does not flare out. Many shooters have started off shooting with a low set-point, but gradually raise it higher and higher until they have a perfect jumpshot. Love the video.

  • how ya shooting at the university gym? are ya on their team? or is it open all the time?

  • What about ball security? To start this kind of setjumpshot you need to stick the ball in front of you, then start the down up leg motion - ample time for the opponent to block. With other methods of shooting, you start the downup motion from the shotpocket (a more secure area), then elevate and bring the ball to the setpoint, then release. THIS is the way all the so called swish pure shooters in the nba shoot. They dont set the ball before starting the downup motion, they start the motion fro

  • @ShlomiHiskiyahu

Try it out some of Tom Nordland's suggestions and you will feel the difference yourself.

    Michael

  • what are the weaknesses of the Swish method? Btw, I own both Swish 1&2 and BB Better Shooting 2.

  • @ShlomiHiskiyahu

There are actually one. First, as you can see, releasing the ball with a push like I am doing takes time. What I mean is that it is required to have your legs bend and unwind, and USE that leg drive as your main source of power. So, your shot will be as quick/slow as you bend and unwind. You won't be able to make those tough and quick shots that you wish you could make, but its better to make consistent shots with ease than attempt making tough shots.

    MIchael

  • lol your shooting form is way easy to block. I used to do these all day long in highschool and i can shoot even if i got my defender around me

  • terrible form.

  • The shooting form may be ugly/terrible by conventional orthodox shooting forms but the results from the video obviously show that you can be a great shooter even if you have a different stroke.

Just asking, are you able to do jumpshots with this stroke?

  • @JoeSexyback

    Yes!

  • With the off hand, is the grip similar to the shooting hand (Where the palm is not involved) Or do I use the whole hand (with the palm involved?

  • Your form is absolutely terrible

  • Dude you are a good shooter and all, but why are you TEACHING how to shoot? Your form is very bad idk how your able to swish so much but most ppl are not gonna get the same results as you do. If anyone wants to learn how to shoot, look at Pro nba good shooters, like Ray Allen, Steve Nash, Stephen Curry, etc and try to emulate them. Trust me you wont get the same results if u copy this guy

  • @mikeandikes3

My brother and I are just sharing what has worked for us and other students that coach Tom Nordland has been able share with. All are videos and advice have, moreso, been discoveries. Try it out yourself; it may or may not work for you.

    Michael

  • @mikeandikes3 hating much?

  • @mikeandikes3 Honestly its somewhat true when I first heard of this I tried doing it and I just started swishing shots BUT it was inconsistent for me. I ended up adding my own twist to by just trying to put the ball in my shot pocket and jumping straight up and not leaning forward surprising that helped improved my jumpers look and consistency.

  • You have the ugliest shooting form ive ever seen!

  • @066972282sarmad1 what about joakim noah's shooting form?

  • Hey, I found out how much inertia played a role in shooting and im only looking to shoot whenever I cant get inertia. But, how do I know when I need to dip the ball? How low should the ball be so that I know its not too high and that I can max my inertia? Because i've always been dipping regardless of how low the ball was.

    Thanks.

  • your shot is ugly dude, cant lie, but man, does it go in

  • @TheShootersTouch doesit matter if the ball aligned a little bit next to eye . what I mean not directly in front of the eye. Be cause I feel more comfortable shooting just a bit to the right of my eye. (I'm a righty)

  • @TheshootersTouch I have side spin how can i fix this

  • The past week ive been conscious of my hand/finger placement when I hold the ball as I release it,

I used to hold the ball how I always have, but when I watched Swish 2 that night I noticed how Tom held it, but I never realized this because he told me to try and see what feels comfortable,

but I was wondering if there was a proper way to hold the ball, could you post maybe a picture on your website to show what grip works best for you?

  • @Noobykins

You will find a hand placement that will work for you. There's no "proper" way to hold a ball, just make sure it's comfortable to you. Being exact about what finger should go where just complicates it and so forth, so just trust your body and go with it. Remember, your body is incredibly intelligent (I was not aware of this before either), and you will "just know" where to place your hands on the ball on every shot, just trust you body and let go.

    Eugene

  • @TheShootersTouch i think your right about the hand placement because i use to hold ball in the fingers but now i hold it in my whole hand including my palm and my fingers, i was just wondering if this good because i feel that it gives me more wrist flopping and better consistency?

    PLZ REPLY

  • it looks like your throwing the ball instead of shooting it... its not fluid, it's like a girls shot!

  • your follow thru isn't right. your left hand is so low

  • @AHoyle14 lol u must not play ball that much, or u dont knw fundamentals. the left hand(off hand) is just a guide it does not matter where it goes after the ball has been released... there's nothing ugly if he is hitting every shot... if a dude hits a 3 in your face... people r not gonna go "oh what an ugly shot" .. they gonna b like "oh that dude got jayed on, nastyyy"

  • @fredo018 I do play ball. And I'm not trying to like seem like I'm hating or even to hate.. but it really looks like he's throwing it. I mean a pretty shot is the form and mechanics not the miss or make.. even though the make is nice, consistency is even better.

  • @AHoyle14

Thanks. I could make a video of myself shooting with the "standard and beauty" of the mainstream shot mechanics that I can scavenge through on YouTube in 5 minutes or less, but there are so many videos of that out there. I want to show others that there is an alternative. That's my main and only goal with my videos and blogsite.

    Michael

  • Does it matter where you're shooting pocket is? Can it be too high/low?

  • @TheShootersTouch I can't seem to keep my wrist from flipping, it seems tight and that causes my shot to go in different directions, what should i do?

  • By @ i meant 2 i pressed shift by accident

  • i have been trying the swish method out, but I realized in my shooting that I have Two major problems 1. is that I have side spin. how can i fix it and what is causing it.

@. is that I've been tracking my misses and most of my misses were to the left and right how can i fix this and what is causing it.

    Plus nice shooting

  • I tried out extremes & practicing different shots,

    like ShotScience shooting,

They had a video that related to upforce,

and they said that shooting on the way up would put too much power on the ball,

and that varying arch is never good for maintaining accuracy,

and that we should instead shoot as we reach the top of our jump,

its similar to Swish 1, and I noticed that my arch is really high and when it hits the rim it makes a long rebound instead of softly bouncing, what do you think?

  • I got a question: 1. should the ball touch the palm or it should be more up the fingers also which finger should touch the ball last.

  • @kobe24bryant81points I know i'm not "TheShootersTouch" but when you shoot the ball there should be a a little bit of space between you and the ball, my coach calls it the "Air Pocket" and the middle finger will be one touching the ball last.

  • @kobe24bryant81points

Try gripping the ball with it touching the palm and not touching the palm and see for yourself. From my experience, I have better control of the ball with it in contact with my finger pads. You'll just know my friend :)

    Eugene

  • @theshooterstouch does it matter what spot do you land when u shoot

  • @kobe24bryant81points

    Probably not

  • @kobe24bryant81points .....just try and make sure one side of your body isn't facing too much to the hoop.

That form looks like Magic's. :P

  • @koolgordon

It seems to help with my alignment (read it on my website). Thanks for your comment.

    Michael

  • @TheShootersTouch can u specify what koolgordon said I really dont understand

  • Been tracking your videos and you've made a lot of progress with this "swish method". nice work. Your shot is similar to Kevin Martin's.

I've always been a good shooter and when I follow through I don't flop my wrist like you do. I was always told to snap my wrist by my coach. I may try the floppy wrist though. It seems like the ball lands softer on the rim.

  • Hurry with the video,

I cant wait to see what you guys learned much longer, ;)

  • @Noobykins

Watch my video on learning. The circle of learning that I talk about is what got me to learn more and grow as a shooter.

    Michael

  • @Noobykins

I learned to use awareness to understand my shooting, habits and actions, but not all the time. Most of time, though, I learned to just let go and just shoot the ball, without thought or awareness. This allowed my body to just do what it felt best. That's what I want to come across to people, as well. Learning involves new experience and learning of new ideas, but it also involves letting your body and mind do its own thing after. As a result, I shoot much quicker now.

    Michael

  • @theshooterstouch I have noticed that when I am shooting a 3 my set point is lower, while in a 2 point shot . My set point is much higher. Is this observation correct.

  • @kobe24bryant81points

It could be :) You be your own judge.

    Michael

  • @TheShootersTouch, I heard Tom said to control distance by varing the arch rather than the release. How exactly do you vary the arc. Is it by changing the angle of release, or changing the set point for a 2pointer, and pointer

  • @kobe24bryant81points

Go to my website where I explain about everything Tom talks about and more through my blogs.

    Michael

  • how do you get your wrist to flop like that i have been trying and trying but it wont seem to work i even bought tom norlands dvd and i cant seem to get my shot like yours

  • @smsteveo2332

The "flop" from the wrist occurs naturally when you lock your elbow right to the end with your wrist completely relaxed. Your wrist has no choice but to flop a couple of times unless you are not locking your elbow in your release or you are consiously keeping your wrist "stiff"

    Eugene

  • @TheShootersTouch wont your elbow get injured like that?

  • @whysoown

From my experience, only if you keeping locking your elbow at a very fast rate would there ever be somewhat of a strain on my elbow. You be the judge.

    Eugene

  • @TheShootersTouch Can you make a video on how to lock your wrist please and thank you

  • @smsteveo2332

Watch my other video on that. "Swish" release in more detail - is the video name.

  • @smsteveo2332

My first video shows it well. And I think you mean 'lock' the elbow. You can tell you are pushing the ball if the wrist and hand is completely relaxed and your elbow is completely locked after releasing the ball.

    Michael

  • Good video Mike. Impressive shooting I use the swish method also it is so simple to do with practice. Also if you do not mind subscribe and rate my videos.
