I just love listening to your beautifully uploaded JM songs. Not only the music but the videos are just perfect. Thanks so much. I always look forward to the time when I can relax and enjoy the best recordings ever.
@ReadMeReadYou I have been listening to your uploads for months now and spend several hours almost every evening enjoying the music. I just love JM music.
I think there is so much double meaning to the lyrics in this song. I always liked the song, didn't realize how super the lyrics were, too. Really captures my feel of summer.
huh, but, I um, feel, so sad, why do I torture myself, listening to nostalgic music so many memories, I wonder if I turned left instead of right at the fork in the road. would it have been a happy ending for me.it's too late to turn back, I can't.....the season's change in ones life.....
I haven't heard anybody sing as beautiful as Johnny Mathis.he has this unique voice that transport us to a better place.Definitely life seem better when we listen him.
one of the most beautiful movies of our time and this recording just tops it off ,the best ballad singer ever ,only once in a lifetime(for me) there comes someone like Johnny Mathis that interpret music with such astounding presence both seen and unseen ,its like a fantasy I am so grateful for all of these wonderful, wonderful uploads of Mr Mathis, I feel like its Christmas
Beautiful book, beautiful movie and absolutely beautiful song sung by the incomparable Johnny Mathis. ReadMeReadYou, you've done an amazing post. Thank you!
I was a radio station DJ in the early 1970's when this song (and the movie) were playing in theatres and on the air. I played Johnny's version of this song on the air, so I decided to go see the movie. The theatre wasn't very crowded, but I remember a mother and her young teenage daughter watching the movie together. It's the kind of thing you can't put your finger on, but I got the sense that there was something very intense going on between mother and daughter during that movie.
I saw the movie too and yes, it is an incredible theme song. Another great work by my favorite trio - composer Michel Legrand and lyricists Alan/Marilyn Bergman. Melodically and lyrically rich like their other works !! Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, had never heard the lyrics to this theme song. Back in high school, our symphonic band played the instrumental version of this. Always liked the song.
I went to only one Johnny Mathis concert: in 1970 at the Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. He was fantastic. I was still young then but I then recalled all my teenage days of cheek-to-cheek dances with his songs. This one by Johnny, this movie, and all the theme songs by Michel LeGrand, are all part of my early adulthood. Summer of '42, Umbrellas of Cherbourg, etc. Ah, sweet youth.
@ataribattari don't know if you still live in D.C, area anymore but I saw Johnny Mathis about 2 years ago at Wolf Trap. He still sounds pretty good and something about hearing his voice drift thru the late evening summer air. I think he appeared just this past spring at the Strathmore Music Hall over in Bethesda.
I agree with Spitfir 9B: this is a hauntinhg, evocative, entrancing rite of passage movie. I saw it my freshman year of college in the fall of 1971 and had an instant crush on Jennifer O'Neill. I later read Herman Raucher's novel and have the movie in my collection. Many thanks for posting this and Johnny Mathis' version of the theme song.
Summer romances always stay alive in our hearts...and saying goodbye is the sweetest way of remaining faithful in our minds...Life is sweet if we can learn to appreciate those wonderful moments spent with a loved one during a summer romance and noone can awaken those feelings more profoundly than our beloved Johnny Mathis....Love, Peace and a smile, MARIA
I love this movie (I identify a period of my youth with it) and I have always loved Johnny Mathis' music (I have all his recordings in vinyl & CD). We may have danced to rock 'n' roll but we made love to Johnny's music. You appreciate these things more as time goes by.
An old romantic audiophile/cinephile thanks you again for your video.

johnny mathis is without peer. any questions? his "johnny mathis greatest hits" and "more greatest hits" were on billboards top 100 albums FOR 10 YEARS...........elvis or the beatles ever done that??? i didn't think so. johnny is the greatest romantic singer of all time. nuff said
Yep, that's what it sounds like in the videos. He, or his manager, must be a perfectionist with very good taste. You don't get such perfect renditions, full of interesting ideas, unless you work very hard.
My mother has this record it's from the album "The first time ever I saw your face" This is from 1972. Johnny sings this song with a touch of Mathis magic
