this has inspired me to find a way to go back and watch as much Sailor Moon as i can and borrow a vhs player so i can watch my movies (i still have them after over a decade). i remember this show from when i was really young and Jupiter was ALWAYS my favorite, and inspired me to get tougher and grow a backbone and fight back against bullies.

Imagine what it would be like if the kids today saw a show like this that is deep, instead of the brain dead show today that never progresses in storyline and show the same gags ower and over again. Can I please shed some light on the U.S. licence suituation? First of all, the english dub of Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon is one of THE worst dubs of all time. The way it was butchered (especally the way DiC did it) should say enough about why the product has been dormant all these years, and why Toei was supposly being "bitches" about it. I mean would you want your product to be dubbed after the way it was treated here in america? *more to come*
Well, ideally with the reprinting of the manga will come from Naoko Takeuchi more of an openness to the series being resubbed and maybe the artwork being cleaned up a bit. You know... maybe someday, Funimation will actually get some of the rights we have all been craving them to have for years, and we will again see the sailor senshi in action!

What the hell happened to Sailor Moon in the States? I hear that this was running for about five years in Japan after it stopped airing in the USA.
I guess there where not enough busty girls and violence for the USA.

This anime was great because it was anime without the sex puns in it as the girls where drawn be females. Even the Japanese version with the gay reference was not that bad.
Same thing over here. I think the reason was that the channels didn't have the monies to keep on airing it. It was only popular among some kids anyway.
Yeah well they changed the entire script around. Back in Japan it was more of a teenage thing I suppose but the USA butchered it and made it all politically correct... Sucks but I still like the American voice actors more. I'd watch this so much when I was a kid. And the movies aren't too bad either. Very nostalgic.
@JohnnyK98k USA definitely managed to kill this show. I absolutely adored this show when I was younger, and while I'm of the opinion that some of the American voice actors were good, I wasn't fond of all of them (Example, Rini/Chibi-Usa. That voice infuriated me.) Still love to watch this show though, and I'm eighteen. Generally, I enjoy them more in Japanese with subtitles, though. This was a great show. Never quite liked any other anime shows as much as this one.
I know this is a old comment but the reason it stop airing is because the license for it expired and they haven't been able to renew it. I read somewhere that the reason that the license hasn't been renewed is the fact that the creator didn't like all the editing done to the American version. I don't know if it right or not though.

Sailor Stars! but it had 3 new senshi that were GIRLS then turned into GUYS as their civilian form and the inner senshi fell in love with them making them lesbians......... so......... :( that and i dont think america got publishing rights..... :'(

The plot pushed things a bit, with the sailors moving on to high school, the presence of the 3 Lights playing a lot of he/she games when networks weren't ready for it, and haruka/michiru get more serious. @DJ91990 I agree...Sailor Moon isn't even half as bad as some of the kid shows on T.V. today. I can be a tomboy sometimes, but I'll always admit to loving Sailor Moon, and so far, I've met so many people who would do anything to bring it back to America. I really think they should give it another chance.

I watched this at 6 and scenes were cut and well as dubbed over with "Cleaner" dialogue making them boring. If they had just left it alone then it would have gotten more of a following, but instead as the kids grew up they lost viewers, not to mention they were very limited as to what they could actually show on the tv. ie: The Sailor Deaths

Yeah, so they dubbed Haruka and Michiru into cousins and made Luna an old lady. *spoiler alert* But I'd be really surprised if they managed to hide the fact it prominently features crossdressers. *spoiler end* Too bad though...it was a good season.

At the star I thought it too (not 'terrible' but 'quite bad'). But if you hear it more and more time... you learn to like this song. And 'Drops of Jupiter' is great for Makoto. ^^

@DJ91990 I think part of the reason is the 5th story arc, Sailor Stars. Yeah, so they dubbed Haruka and Michiru into cousins and made Luna an old lady. *spoiler alert* But I'd be really surprised if they managed to hide the fact it prominently features crossdressers. *spoiler end* Too bad though...it was a good season.
