  • not only the lyrics have meaning, the guitar riff and the voice of roland has it too

  • son pourri, dommage.

  • This is the best thing Roland did on his own

  • "into that void of silence, where we cry without sound, when tears roll down when tears roll down"--sure a lot of people went through that.

  • This song is from 1992..

  • in the british hit singles and albums , it says that it was no.17, and that it was in the charts for 5 weeks

  • This would have been a great James Bond Theme tune??????

  • @Spomeard true

  • @Spomeard Oh, come on! Don`t link TFF with something so terribly stupid like James Bond. It is an insult to the band.

  • @Spomeard hellyeah, this song rulz, but it ranks nowhere near Raoul and the kings of spain

  • For me their best song!!!

  • GREAT TRACK...1992 WAS THE LAST YEAR OF THE 8Oies...

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • very sensual voice of Roland)))

  • love this..but wheres the other guy?

  • @lilplinky They weren't getting on the time the 'Seeds of Love' album was made, Curt got very much pushed out due to Roland's obsession with technology, and they split soon afterwards. You cab find them both chatting about it here on youtube :-)

Great song though... One to remember this!

  • Curt left the band following the Seeds of Love tour. Throughout the 90's Roland carried on as TFF alone until they reunited in early 2000's.

  • Most ecxellent, a band never to be forgottne, the lyrics are poetry

  • Great song. Roland has such a beautiful deep voice.

  • OH shit hahaha omd hahaha!!! He finally extended that short vocal piece from Tears Roll Down--that was such a tease

  • this was post break up

  • a great song TEARS FOR FEARS FOREVER!!!

  • sorta has a fleet wood mack vibe, love it :)

  • So, i'm a bit confused as to whether this song (and a couple others from Saturnine Martial and Lunatic are pre-breakup or post-breakup.

I know that Laid So Low was being worked on during the Seeds Of Love sessions, but it didn't come out til about 3 years later. According to Wikipedia, they say it can be considered Roland Orzabal's first solo effort.

Anyone have insight into this? What about Always in the Past, and My Life in the Suicide Ranks?

I'm trying to put a chronology together.

  • it is post breakup

  • The Hurting

    Songs from the Big Chair

    Seeds of Love

    Then they broke up

    Elemental

Raoul and the Kings of Spain

    Saturnine Martial and Lunatic

Everybody Loves a Happy Ending (they reunited on this one)

  • There are two versions of this song. The original 'Tears Roll Down' (no 'Laid So Low') existed early enough to be the b-side of the 'Seeds Of Love' single, but it didn't come into being until they were filming the video for that song (this, apparently, is the sort of thing our Roland does to alleviate boredom between takes) so it's hard to guess how involved Curt was at that point.

The verses were added, bringing the final 'Laid So Low (etc.)' version of the song to fruition, post-breakup.

  • The other two songs you mention are pre-breakup, but Curt wasn't involved in 'My Life InThe Suicide Ranks.'

  • always in the past is from The Seeds Of Love, and I think my life in the suicide ranks' first appearance was on Saturnine Martial and Lunatic :-D

  • Very nice song.

  • I love the sound of the double, they are and will always be the best band that exists!

  • GREAT SONG & GROUP

  • ... And inside when we are done chasing others to find oursevles, we find our true voice and there is no substitute.

  • those are the lyrics? I miss when music had meaning. Now alot of music is plastic crap. Over produced for the masses. A few have heart and soul, but not many.

  • No those aren't the lyrics. I was just going with what I felt epitomizes the song at the time. Growing into oneself and going your own way, the right way and not following what may go against your true self. In other words ... blah blah blah blah ... no really, just a reminder back from the 80's when I discovered I didn't have to follow anyone to find myself.

  • hi, sorry dean I forgot which post I was responding to. I thought I was responding to another post I had made. Either way what you said is very profound and meaningful especially about chasing others. The answers to your life are inside of you or something like that.

  • Damn it, I cant agree with you more. :(

  • I meant "any more"

  • @FuLuShouXi I honestlly Agree with you, Music is not what it is anymore, thats why my band and hopefully others will give passion in the sound of futures music, and music like this video will serve a purpose of inspiration and timeless joy. and overdone processed shit audio will be in the past forgotten or less cared for.

  • @FuLuShouXi

yeah, now we just pretty much have "CANNABIS SATIVA. HEY BABY YOU LOOK SO FINE LETS GO HAVE SEX AND SMOKE SOME WEED HEY HEY" made into a rap and put to some shitty beat. -__-

  • Impactante este clipe, lindo, lindos recursos gráficos, maravilhoso, amei!

  • really good audio quality!!! :')

  • the first scene of this clip is from genesis I can't dance...it's amazing phil and roland togheter once again !

  • And I would argue with you about your obsession with Curt and your tendency to complain how you dont like tears for fears with Roland alone.

  • Oh, Im sorry! Is just that you keep commenting in each and every Tears For Fears video with Roland alone that you dont like it without Curt, that is not the same without the other half that I thought you hated him. My bad.

    (Mind the sarcasm)

  • You hate Roland, don't you? Actually, I did not even know the names of the band members but I think I may have seen them in concert at Riverband around 1990 in a concert series with Depeche Mode, Erasure, and others. Wish I could remember if I did. They have so many awesome songs.

  • I am just kidding with you. I love TFF and many other bands of the era. I wish it were the 80s all over again. Life was much easier. Peace.

  • Thanks. :)

  • What is this song about exactly?

  • Delicia de musica...

  • How I adore this video, wonder who the artist is responsible for the painting, since i'm an artist myself and I worship Roland, as always.........

  • WILL U GUYS PLEEEASE TOUR AGAIN???

  • rgreu, they are touring again. In July '09, down the west coast and in Vegas.

  • lucky sod ! can I come for a holiday !!!

  • Wow i never new there was a video for this song!

  • Vai tomar no olho do c*, que sonzeira do car4lh0, assim como todas do tears for fears! Não se faz mais música como essas! Viva Orzabal e Curth!

  • love this song. remember hearing it on the radio as a teenager in the early nineties - didn't really know what it was about but it was one of those tracks that just connects with where you are at that time. Thanks for posting it.

  • it took ages to make this and we didnt have computers back in the dark ages, all photocopies with paint. cant believe its been resurrected on here brings back good memories..p.d.

  • great

  • The melody of this song is sooo sweet! @_@

  • I totally agree! I love this beautiful melody...They always have the best songs!!!

  • Ah! Back in Much Music's heyday when it wasn't so americanized that I wanted to vomit. :p

  • did the olther singer that looked like a woman with sjort curly hair die or somthing?? is that why is song is sad?? :'(

  • His name is Curt Smith and no, he's still alive.

some say is because they broke up (as a band) in very bad terms.

  • To be more precise, Roland and Curt where fighting and didnt worked well together anymore at the end of the 80s, so Curt left. He made an album on his own about the same time as Elemental by Roland. They reunited as a band only recently, with the condition that Curt's family would come before their music. This song was released on Tears roll down, Greatest hits 1982-1992 in 1992. Hope that clarifies some details:)

  • The name of Curt's other band was Mayfield which he put together to fulfill his contractional obligations to U.M.G./Phonogram Records.

  • No guys Curt and Roland are back together again and they released a new album called "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" in 2004.

Curt made it perfectly clear that he wanted to put his wife and daughters before the band. :)

  • wired

  • brings back so many memories

  • the lyric is so poetic...

and roland was so young (mid 30) and so sexy...!

  • Che chitarra!!!! Da brividi...STUPENDO brano!!!!

  • lol the vocalist and zack de la rocha look the same =D

    hahah

i love TFF and RATM =D

  • recognize the Genesis guys walking away?!

(from the clip I can dance!) Great clue!

  • amazing.........

Roland was, is and will be my everlasting idol!

He's my twin brother in spirit

  • it's also one of my favourites, always a big tff fan but more on Roland's side too... now that i'm a pro musician myself I wish if I'll ever find his contact for a duet LOL !

  • Less chalk-art. More sexy Roland.

  • I love this song . The bestTFF song I think. Beautiful lyrics and great music.

  • wicked group the best ever, this one is my fav

  • made a mess i guess i should have known..awesome line!!

  • love the animation in this video!!!

  • fantastica canzone!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i always loved these guys! thanx for posting this~!

  • I keep getting the sense that they are telling us something. They are messengers.

  • top notch song, great memories it brings upon me

  • master class band in league with U2 and depeche mode in the 80's... this band rocks them all. New wave built my formative years to a serene peaceful soul.

  • los tears son la polla

  • nice

  • great video kind of reminds me of the vid underground by david bowie,as it has similar animation

  • the 80's gave us some good bloody music....please come back we need you

  • But this one comes from 1992

  • written by a band of the 80's.You can take the band out the 80's but you cant take the 80's out the band

  • So, is that a positive comment about Tears for Fears or a negative one?

  • Love the Video Idea

  • Love this song.

  • really one of the best songs in the eighties... only overdone by michael jackson and stevie ray vaughan

  • this is a great song :)

  • Believe it or not I am watching this video after 13-14 years. But it was always in my mind.

  • Demais, som de primeira.

  • TFF,talk talk, depeche mode, all these bands still sound good today, still fresh well to me anyway,

  • bellissima canzone.una delle piu belle dei tff

  • assolutamente d'accordo..ma everibody want to rule the world dove la mettiamo?

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONG OF TFF .... AMAZING

  • This song did not break up Tears for Fears, it is about thier breakup written and sung by the last remaining member of the group, Roland Orzabal. Oh, and don't worry, curt (smith) and roland have reunited for the last couple of years, but are having a hard time recapturing old glory.

  • I agree. If you check out the old albums from "Acting My Age" on, Roland NEVER has top billing, in spite of the fact he wrote the songs, sang most of them and was obviously the leader. It was probably his own idea though. He seems to have been the major decision maker all along.

  • First of all, this is just incorrect. Second of all, you're free to move back to whatever third-world shithole your ancestors came from. What's that? You hate Europeans yet insist on living amongst European-Americans in the United States? Pathetic hypocrite.

  • it's about the humilliation that poor indians suffered from the europeans. Not no more, screw the europeans!

  • First of all, it's not about that, it's the song that broke up the band and it was, like, their most intense song. I read up a lot on it. Second of all that's really racist towards Europeans...

  • This is indeed an intense and beautiful song, but I thought Curt Smith did not participate in this recording. How did this song break up the band? Thanks for the info. These guys were just fabulous - outstanding musicians.

  • You are right. It was released after Curt Smith left the band. You will find the explanation above. But this is not my interpretation. I have actually read several articles regarding this song.

  • Well, you are not quite right there. This was the first song released after Curt Smith left Tears for Fears. If you notice the lines in the song- "I was humble for you"... "Laid So Low for so long", it is a reference to Curt, especially the words "so low" is a play on the word- "solo" in this case.

  • videoclip secondo me perfetto per questa bellissima canzone,le da piu' atmosfera......capolavoro

  • great tune, great video, roland must be the secret lovechild of kevin godley, and that would explain the hair. THe 80's created some monsters, but tff have stood the test of time, nice work.

  • A great great great song!!!!

  • Those lyrics are deep......great song i know a few woman that deserve to hear this lol...great song anyway.

  • great song,i miss them

  • An incredible song that is equally matched by an extremely artistic and entertaining video.

  • very nice song

  • A beautiful song. That's all!

  • A song of real artistical values, and also a beautiful memory for me.

  • Hey!! one of my favorite songs from tears for fears.. I didn't listen to it in ages!! In my opinion, along with TOTO, one of the most underrated bands form the 80's, thanks for sharing!

  • Very Strong!

  • Great song thanks for posting, they used to have a house just down the road from me and my m8 put their bathroom in and they moaned lol

  • Ironically, they used to (or still do) live in a town called BATH.

  • Only Roland lives in Bath, now. Curt lives in Los Angeles.

  • YAY I live near Bath :)

  • YAY Lennie - Bath is a one of the most beautiful cities I've yet seen! I'm from another latitude entirely (in tropical Australia). The day I visited Bath the weather got a bit squally and I took a photo of the deckchairs being tossed about. Bought a pale blue ammonite fossil on Pultney (?) Bridge. I was on such a high from seeing the Uffington White Horse, too! Can we swap lives?

  • great song

  • people who run this song must be the most clueless individuals in the universe,TFF superb, always have been and always will be.

  • into that void of scilence... where we cry without a sound.... where tears roll down, where tears roll doown.. and with your mothers violence.. send your soul under ground, where tears roll down, where tears roll dooown

  • one of the most inspired songs of roland

  • One of their greatest tunes period. Ranks right up there with Woman in Chains. Love this track!!!

  • Roland don't listen to these negative critics that have the nerve to call themselves music experts They themselves don't have single clue about the music they examine They were simply introduced to music during their collegiate research and studies We know what music is and I myself appreciate to listen to talents like you and Curt...Tears For Fears...U guys ROCK Period!
