  • Wow! Soooooo amazing. Dan Hartman was a wonderful guy and a super wonderful artist. We learned about him and other innovators of the 80s in my contemporary music and literature class. Thank you so much for sharing this. Really appreciate it. Best, " J "

  • @Baloo yep there was a dance mix of Free Ride on the flip side of THIS 12" single of Vertigo/Relight My Fire

  • Did you know that Dan Hartman was the lead vocalist for the Edgar Winter group? He sang lead on C'mon and Take A Free Ride.

  • @kasey8912 Dan Hartman also wrote "Free Ride" back in 1972, he was really quite a talented songwriter! He recorded his own version of the tune for this album "Relight My Fire".

  • I agree--this was the best disco song. It's a shame more wasn't done with it. I always thought it would have good on the soundtrack of a movie; it has so much energy.

  • Yeah!!

  • circa 1980 driving my 1975 Chevy Monza along Ft. Lauderdale's A1A along the beach listening to this over and over again ~

  • NOW, THIS IS THE VERSION OF "RELIGHT MY FIRE" I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!

  • I think of ABC's Eyewitness News whenever I hear this song.

  • Just heard this on Studio 54 Radio (XM). Awesome song!

  • When I no longer want to dance to this tune I hope someone will shoot me.

  • @SuperDancingfool do you remember the 1st time you danced to it?

  • I just found the track I wanna hear when I win the LOTTO!!!!!

  • I always think of Disco Stu when this is on.

  • Timeless classic ......a great time never to be forgotten....Lolita RIP.....GOT TO HAVE HOPE IN YOUR SOUL !!!

  • "Gotta be STRONG enough to walk on through the night!"

  • 6 people think this is a cover of the cheap, plasticy insult sung by Take That

  • take it down or fix the pops. You almost pierced a membrane.

  • indeed...r.i.p. loleatta & dan...

  • I read somewhere that Dan Hartman said he was inspired by the introduction to "Found a Cure" by Ashford and Simpson and decided to go crazy with it and make an even longer introduction ... and the beginning of "Vertigo/Relight My Fire" was the result. HOT!!

  • Ladies and gentlemen....I give you the late but great.......... MR DAN HARTMAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • wtf is that other version? Loleatta Holloway can't be touched!

  • Thank you and RIP Loleatta, we love you for these gifts of music and inspiration!

  • R.I.P. Loleatta Holloway - March 21, 2011.

Always loved your contribution to dance music and together with the talents of Dan Hartman, you both released some great tracks over the years....... R.I.P. both you.

  • When the soundwaves of this song reach life in the outer universe

THEYLL BE DANCING WITH EXCITEMENT and say, those earthlings are brilliant!! What is this wonderful thing called music?!

  • Joe Claussel from "Body & Soul" gives a run for your money on this classic. NY dance floor gets so wet from this. A classic that never will die!! How we will miss the club diva of all times!! I am celebrating your life Ms. Holloway .. gone so soon!! To all my club heads dance the night away!!!

  • Bobby Viteritti over at the TROCADERO TRANSFER in San Francisco would work wonders with this song... And the lighting guy would turn it out. My fave part is LOLEATTA wailing: I got to be strong enough to walk on through the night!! there's a new day on the other side... yeah! you got to have hope in your soul - just keep on walking yeah yeah. keep walking... relight relight my fire.. --- wow so choice!

  • I remember when Frankie Knuckles played this at the Warehouse in Chicago...the party took off! Man, we lost both of them, Dan Hartman and Loletta Holloway today. Memories...

  • RIP Loleatta Holloway!!

  • This is the most beautiful song! I lose it every single time I hear it!!!!

  • RELIGHT MY FIREEEEEEEEE NA NA NANAA!!!! (L)

  • still sounds as good as it did when it came out

  • Must have put 100,000 miles on the dance floor

to this one of the best Disco Classics of all time...

  • wish i was still young

  • awesome memories thnx dan hartman for bridging the gay / str8 gap..... happy 2011

  • just found the original "relight my fire" lp for only a dollar this past weekend, with the enitre "vertigo/relight my fire" track in all its 9:42 glory!! what a find for the holiday season!!!

  • Great song!!!!!

  • Awsome!!!!!! Im 49years old, and remember this in the disco's in the early 80s....it is still the best song ever!!!!! and will always be!!!

  • THE ORIGINAL - AND STILL THE BEST ! - TAKE THAT - GO AWAY - PLEASE!!

  • @truefactsth Totally. This song was embraced by the house/ rave and acid culture of the late 80s/early 90s in a nod to the Disco culture of 10/15 years early-quite often tracks like this would end the night. TT picked up on that hence the cover. TUNNNNNE!

  • RIP Dan Hartman

  • Oh man I had this vinyl and left it when I moved back to TO from NYC. Thanks for posting. :)

  • Love, love love it!

  • The transition between the 2 songs is among my favorites of that sort. Its just perfectly done. Starts at 3:03

  • tre minuti di intro... -_-

  • @copali la intro si chiama vertigo, seguita da relight my fire mixata

  • @gennaman2bit buono a sapersi, grazie ; )

  • @copali prego :)

  • DJs can play this song today and the crowd will still go nuts!!!

  • The biggest slice in the disco era?? The argument can be made but there were so many outstanding productions. I think that is precisely why disco was the world-wide phenomenon it was! Pure MAGIC!!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!! DANCED ALOT TO IT

  • Always good to the full length version WITH "Vertigo" and VOCAL "RMF". Thanks for posting! @trevorleigh85, "Vertigo" was actually the 'B' Side to the "RMF" 45, which I had in '79 when I couldn't always afford to buy 12" Records.

  • As a dj i play these old classics disco will never die i will keeping it alive

  • Love this tune... brings me back a million years ago!

  • Wheeeee! <3

  • uh-oh im back again

  • At 2:58: "It's Tomorrow Coast to Coast. Right here. Right now."

  • Does anyone know if vertigo was released separately at all?

  • @trevorleigh85 No, it was always the intro to relight my fire.

  • Blijft nog steeds een van de..... Heavy weights.... in de Disco scene...van de vroegere dagen....Dan Hartman.....Yeah .....Relight my fire....kan niet meer stuk....

  • Awesome....this is THE version. Great memories.

Cheers and many thanks for posting.

  • Hearing this song reminds me I have the album. Just came from upstairs and played it again thanks for reminding me

  • greatest achivement

  • ETERNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im a gammer so i first heard this song in Rockstar's GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony. After hearing the song from beating the game i just loved it. Now just reading all the comments here i see that the song is loved by many others aswell. Love the song very much.

  • There is such a fine line betweex disco and house, this jam was played and Jacked to in every fricking club that Claimed to a House club here in The city of Chicago"Got to be strong enough to walk on thru the night"...HOUSEHEAD HOWARD OUT BABY!!

  • This song still rocks. Real music played by real people. I miss music like this. No drama, Just music with not wearing sunglasses on stage or selling vodka. or posses or drama.

  • Take That eat your heart out

  • 5:24 ~ Louis La Roche

  • brilliant blue eyed soul

  • The best.

  • Dan Hartman was--and always will be--a legend. He was taken too soon but he left us with some of the greatest dance music of all time. Thank you, Dan. Rest in peace.

  • One off the greatest disco slices ever produced, just hearing it and I'm in the front of Studio 54, tryin' to edge my way in but instead, slidin' down to New York, New York on 52nd, or to Regine's, before winding up at Roseland's, to cap-off a Saturday Night in 1979!!! How sweet it was! Lookin' back, I'm kinda glad I didn't get in the '54; that place was "off the cliff!!"

  • AWESOME!! May Disco live forever!!! THIS IS 100% DISCO MUSIC!! A timeless Disco Music Masterpiece!!!! Those were the good old days man!!

  • was played a lot in the state'... by steve'.

lets clear up the confusion, dan did the early disco version , jumpin' julian perez did the 89' dj international house version. (got both)

@mrmarv , do you think it was bigger than sylvester 'do ya wanna funk' or the real thing 'can you feel the force'....?

(he asked listening to players assco.~ turn the music up)

  • it reminds me of proctor

  • Thanks for posting this song and this version. I've been looking for this for years and it one of my absolute favorites of all time. I have so many memories of dancing to this entire song and more and getting drunk, fucked up and totally into it. Nothing compares to the best.

  • When America WAS America.

They had the music, films and the culture that everyone aspired to and everyone wanted to emulate

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh....!!!!!!!!! one of the best forever !!!

  • definitely one of the best house songs ever made

  • @tictac1408 House? :)

  • @HousefusionTV

    yeah, house

  • @tictac1408 House wasn't born in 1979, its Disco....house started to evolve during the begining of 1980s and became "House" around 1985...so trust me, this isnt house music

  • @HousefusionTV thank for letting them have it. We know this ain't house, it inspired it. Especially with Miss Loleatta!

  • Rest in peace Dan. Loleatta really rocks this song out!!!!

  • I've NEVER forgiven Barlow for slaughtering this !

  • It is a crying shame that this is the best audio quality I can find. They have usb turntables at Target. Cheap. If you have it, just do it.

  • This remains the biggest song in the history of North America discos; it was #1 for FOUR MONTHS on Billboard's Dance chart in 1979/1980. I used to play this a lot at a couple of LA nightclubs, and I certainly enjoyed it at Mr. Pips and Pierce Street Annex in Fort Lauderdale, as well as 'Osko's' in LA/Beverly Hills, where the movie 'Thank God It's Friday' was filmed.

This gentleman was the lead guitarist of the Edgar Winter Group, & wrote their smash 'Free Ride'.

    STILL love it!!!

  • @MrMarv1985 Correction, Dan Hartman was bass player in The Edgar Winter Group. Ronnie Montrose was the lead guitarist.

  • @MrMarv1985 I remember OSKO'S, that was one of the first clubs I played at. Dan wrote many of Edgar's hits.

  • Jammmin'

  • DISCO ROCKS ! ! !

  • It has the 3 minutes of vertigo before.

  • No I'm not talking about this version in the video. There's another version of Relight My Fire (without Vertigo) which has a better bass / beat.

  • Ah oke. But i've no idea. i'm not interested in housy versions anymore. Good luck.

  • I replied to posts and they all came up here sorry, YT fu up

  • Whats sad is artists such as Dan Hartman, Patrick Crowley and the likes were taken to early, RIP! dj Disco Dave, Toronto

  • The well-known disco songs are pretty good, but it's the hidden gems like this that really take the cake. LOVE IT. Makes me miss Chrome on XM Radio.

  • These 'hidden gems" were big in the late 70's early 80's underground discos. The gen. public was not into the 5-17 minute Disco tracks (Hills of Katmandu, Love to Love etc. ), they all wanted the 3 min song. You know how many songs you gotta play for that 'conservative' crowd back then from 9p to 1am? We had to start repeating at 11:30 and then the beginning of sampling (late 70s) help us get through the evening. Merry Xmas Disco Dave, Toronto.

  • Have you tried The Strobe? It's on XM 83 I believe where Chrome used to be. In the same vein as Chrome with all the classic Disco hits. I missed Chrome too, until they brought on The Strobe due to listener demand.

  • Fuckin awesome tune

  • beautiful song

  • fucking brilliant...a life time classic...yeeha!!!

  • Better than Take That's cover version. :)

  • I'm young but I love this song!

I heard it in a cd of my parents called Studio 54!

I love the song called Young Heart Run Free too!

sorry about my poor English, but I'm Spanish!

    I LOVE STUDIO 54!

  • You have excellent taste!

  • Cheryl Lynn - Young hearts run free

Two Tons of Fun - Boys will be boys

I to LOVED living those days...

    DJ Disco Dave, Toronto,

  • @CYRAPHYM actually Candi Staton did Young Hearts Run Free. Cheryl Lynn is best known for Got To Be Real.

  • @lakerherb - your absolutely correct, thank you for bringing that up, I'm fighting Short Term Memory, but you must admit, how many of main stream would get off on Two Tons of Fun, Crowd Pleasers, and the likes there were so many wonderful artists, every year that went by new songs and artist arose to touch our senses...thank you all, Disco Dave.. discomusicDOTcom

  • This one the first songs I heard the first time I went to the Paradise Garage. That Richard Long sound system still sends chills up my spine. Great post. I still love this song

  • Oh yeah...Richard Long...I deejayed at Twilight Zone Sunday's 4am-8am and we had the 4 corner stacks @10 to 12 feet hight, I believe he used JBL's, we also had 2 Mother Earth Quakes 8'x4'x4' with 2 18" Cerwin Vegas in them. WE ROCKED!...best wishes dj Disco Dave, Toronto

  • When discussing Disco music

Dan Hartman will always be at the top of that list.

I have all of his original 12" singles and use them.

What's really ironic is he first played in a hard rock band with The Edgar Winter Group

    " Frankenstein ",

    R.I.P.

    New York City

    D.J. Sal Z.

  • I was there at Studio 54, The Electric Circus etc and this was my favorite. What a time! Lots of dancing and romancing.

  • La versión completa de una joya musical, la amo y me incita a amar

  • This song makes me happy!

  • tuuuuuuuuune !!!!

  • Well if we all stand up in the name of love... ;)

  • I believe the lp actually came out in late '79 & that 'relite my fire' was considered a '80 release as a single. either way, it is still 1 of, if not the, greatest disco/dance gifts from this awesomely-talented man!

  • lp came out in '78, single was released in '79 and it went to #1 on the dance charts in '80.

  • GREAT Disco classic!

  • No it was 1979 en a great hit in europe also

  • yea baby me likeee. one of the best disco dance records, Dan is one of the greatest,
