great piece osu ! i dunno why so many people knock wtf TKD man my shotokan sensei is one of them ......Daido juku is awesome i wana do it i think they stand a better chance against BJJ than other karateka
Thank you very much for clarifying all that though it was easy to depic the kyokushin people because it's my style :p anyways thank you again I appreciate it.
Most traditional karate schools do teach throws and locks. They just don't teach them to beginners. Nage Waza (throws and takedowns), kansetsu-waza (joint-locks and manipulation), shime-waza (choking), and ne-waza (ground fighting) are all part of traditional karate.
Sorry I miss your answer. As DojoWeb said, we have nage waza, kansetzu waza, ne waza. Traditional Okinawan name for a combination of this techniques is "tuite".
Ya know, now I can look at this video and I kind of agree with the "asshole" in some ways. Maybe in the future, there can be more "hybrid" arts. The martial artists can actually learn to fight. That's where Daido Juku came from as well as some other great arts. MMA is slowly taking over.
Daidojuku is an offspring of kyokushin; and kyokushin comes from goju ryu and shotokan. There is nothing in daidojuku that is not in goju ryu or in shotokan. Do not get confused by the tournament rules. Tournaments are not the core of a martial art.
Well, then we can agree that MMA is not taking over anything, it is just a new name for what all traditional martial arts have been doing for centuries.
First I trained Tae Kwon Do, then Shito Ryu Karate, Goyu Ryu Karate and Kyokushin Karate. Kyokushin gave me the strength, Shito Ryu gave me the speed, Goyu Ryu gave me the ability to concentrate and breathe, and Tae Kwon Do gave me leg speed and kick precision. And I respect them all. You must respect other forms too.
You probably should've worked toward blackbelt in all of 'em and you would've had yourself an art in itself. That art, plus some grappling, would become famous in the later years.
You can learn all that in goju ryu. I don't know if you know, but kyokushin is half goju and half shotokan. Both goju and shito ryu come from Higashionna kanryo sensei, and tae kwon do comes from shotokan. So they all belong to the same family.
It is history. Google it. Taekwondo was created after WWII and most of the original taekwondo kata are shotokan. Taekwondo was mixed with Korean Taekkyon, which is mostly kicks, and was regulated as a sport. So now it is difficult to see the Japanese sources. But, hey, something similar happened with shotokan, which comes from Okinawan shorin ryu, but now it is considered Japanese, not Okinawan, maybe because funakoshi sensei taught in mainland Japan, not in Ryukyu.
Exactly thats how I know you didnt know anything about the art from any kind of personal experience. As your into research find the difference between ITF (the origional taekwondo) and WTF, what you were describing is WTF and does not represent TKD on the whole.
you don't need to know history to practice a sport, but you need to know some history to talk about the origins of a sport. I also know the difference between wtf and itf. I don't think you are making a point at all. I respect the sportmen who practice a good sport such as tkd.
If you do then you know you were describing wtf not itf, itf is mostly based on existing Korean arts with a small Karate influence where as wtf is pretty much the same as Shotokan but with different competition rules and some small differences in forms/kata.
First All TKD was from the Kwans, the kwans were basically Tangsoodo and Kong Soo do. so Taekwondo is basically korean karate. TKD's history is just a product of nationalism.
Frankly, even though I enjoy karate like this, I think that the rolling kick that they do is way too flashy for them to be using... but then again, I might try the same thing, so I'd better not insult it.
moron, noone cares what you like or not, however when starting to trash other arts you should remember that if they do well against your pet art, you also thrash that by extention. Kyo has proven itself in the kickboxing ring time and again, daido is well on its way to do it in MMA. Accept that muaythai is not the only thing worth training.
Hey! Don't pay attention to ass clowns like that! I'm a shotokan brown belt myself, but I add other arts for that full contact feel! If he had any balls at all, he'd enter a kyokushin tournament or a Daido Juku! It'd be fun to watch someone like that get his ass whooped.
so true, I don't get why some people get all self riteous bumming their specific art. If I could i'd do all of them. Their all awesome in there own way.
LOLX what a bunch of lame shit.Kids go take kickboxing boxing or Muay thai trust me these martial arts are the real deal not some karate taekwondo or any kind of ''do''s i dun care kyoshit shatogan wtf u think mortal kombat?
DAMMIT, I'm a karate man! If you said some shit like that to me, I'd challenge yo ass to a pankration match and whoop yo ass! I actually enjoy Full-Contact Karate. You must have practiced one of them soft pussy point fight styles before, haven't ya?
The kyokushin karate and Daido juku karate sections from this video are mostly from japanese competitions, although the sports are done worldwide (Kyokushin is not as popular in the US as in the rest of the world though, and I dont know if there even are any daido juku schools in USA). I dont know enough about TKD to identify the short TKD competition clips.
Yeah they have a few of them here. William Oliver trained in Kyokushin Karate. William Oliver was a beast! He was on Mike Warren's level. I think William went to Japan and won one of the international touremants back in the 70's.
Yes there are some kyokushin in the US, but very little. It was Daido juku I dont think exist in the US yet.
No Oliver was a great fighter, but he never won any major tournament in japan. He didnt get into the final 8 fighters in any of the world open tournaments.
Sadly He died back in 2004.
Another US fighter, Willie Williams, made it to 3rd place in the 1979 world tournament though.
In kyokushin you can elbow and punch to the body, but not the head. No protection is used. Kicks and knees allowed anywhere.
TKD allows punches to the body only, but seldom uses them since they seldom score points. Kicks allowed above the waist, body and head protective is used. No elbows, knees or lowkicks.
Daido allows kicks, knees, punches, elbow, headbuts anywhere -including groin. And limited time grappling.
in fact, in this 3 minute video, there is only about 8-9 seconds of tkd fighting (most of it slo-mo reruns), and maybe 15-20sec tkd clips with board breaking from exhibitons.
The rest of the video is daido juku karate, with the 30 first seconds of the video being kyokushin karate only.
Total that makes 30 sec tkd, 30s kyokushin and 2 minutes daido juku.
I see taekwondo, and karate in the video but im not sure whats the style of the karate, hapkido have the same kind of tournament like that, kyukushin doesnt grapple in the tournament.so whats style is this?
Webar. the karate you see in this vid is kyokushin (where the fighter has neither helmet or protective vests. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3DqMBrUBDk
Then you have Daido juku (a offshot from kyokushin) where they allow grappling and wear helmets but NO vests. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMjGQk-k2ZA
Then you have tkd where theywear both helmets and protective vests.
That depends on the music taste of the highlight author I guess.
No matter what music you chose, some will hate it.
Granted, J-pop like this is not MY taste in HL music either, but the guy who made this one apparenly dissagrees with us. Atleast its better than rap :-)
it is not allowed in taekwondo (the clips where the fighters were a helmet and a protective vest) or kyokushin (where they where neither), but it is very much allowed in daido juku (the clips where the fighters were a helmet but no protective vests). Daido juku allows grappling, headbutting, groinkicking elbows, knees lowkicks and pretty mucn anything.
cool. tkd is soo cool but yea its a sport. its not real combat, but can be used if youre really really good at it. i know what im sayin trust me...im us champion

The karate fighters with "bubble" helmets, allowed to grapple is daido juku.
The fighters with no protection whatsoever is kyokushin. So is the guy lifting weight near the beginning.
The fighters with bodyvests and helmets are TKD. Also all the breaking demos (except the ice break at 0.36 which is kyokushin) are TKD.
