  • I was on board The Avenger 1996-2000. I have sceen good times and bad times on board, but the crew worked well as a team. Be safe.

  • I was in Walmart here in Ohio the other day wearing my tattered avenger cover, and there was a guy in the next lane over who had a USS Defender cover on. Talk about small world. - Bertolino

  • 2002-2007 uss patrtiot mcm-7!

  • Ok, banished to the 7th Fleet AOR. Oh hey smart move let's leave the east coast with no mine warfare assets. The Navy has never like mine warfare.

  • I'll have to scan my pictures and download videos of the deployments from '97 and '99. I'll vote for CDR Shoen for best CO.

  • they are in San Diego at this time.

  • Banished to Japan, their are still family members here in Ingleside in limbo. The homeport is still officially Ingleside TX

  • They are? Did they get heavy lifted from Japan or go under there own power?

  • thanks for the video. Plankowner here 1986-1990

  • Plankowner here. THanks for the video. Great crew and Capt. Rawls was the best skipper in the Navy.

  • In my opinion, for best skipper would be a toss up between CDR Kuffel and CDR Shoen.

  • My husband just got off the Defender in march

  • Defender, another good ship. Too bad they both have been banished to Japan.

  • I know I feel sorry for them

  • Great ship, great times. With a crew of 80 everyone was a brother. I miss my time on the Avenger. With the closing of Naval Station Ingleside in April 2010 and the transfer of the Avenger to Japan, it's the end of an era.

  • how many times are Minemen going to run Patriot aground? they have done this TWICE now! the Patriot 32 techs almost sank her because they were using the 32 in stowed position as the only means of watertight integrity because they lost those stupid plates then they had the 32 in uppermaint position with no integrity GATX was 100% flooded ops berthing had 6 inches of water and rising crews rec and nav berth had like 2 feet of water MNs are a bunch of dumbasses sorriest community in the navy

  • Awesome video, haven't made it to the USS Avenger yet but working our way towards it. I started out on the Chief, went to the Ardent, then Sentry, Warrior, Devastator and now the Scout. Wondering where this rotational crew BS will bring me next.

  • HTFN(SW)Bertolino

Hey! Who put my video on here! hahaha....ah.. been out for almost a year now..about ready to go back. Viva La Avenger! Speaking of which, I ran into a guy here in Ohio, in walmart, who was on the Defender down in Tejas. Imagine that sh*t?!#

  • I did. So what are up to? Remember the halfway pool party?

  • I that is the _only_ picture I have of the deployment. I do not have any of the hundreds taken.

  • Lol. The young blond guy was prosumably the ships "boy" Acting gay is one thing when you know everyone is straight, but what if one of the guys is gay and joined in, does it alter the dynamics. Some of the rednecks that comment, I'd see them getting into a lot of fights over it "stop looking at me queer" etc. How is it in practice. The US is downsizing and under resourcing its mine warfare assetts just when it needs them, strange.

  • Well, I don't think he was gay. The U.S. Navy has never really liked mine warfare, they built up based on incidents that happened in the late '80s but since the turn of the century have decommissioned all of the mine hunters, leaving only 14 mine warfare ships.

  • had a bad experience in the minewarfare community, did you?

  • you could at least give my comment a thumbs up

  • When I was on the Avenger, never saw any meth heads, the wife swapping though. No women so can't say anything about that but did know a few gays.

  • wheres ossn MCCANTS

  • On restriction, were else.

  • hahahaha

  • Who are u? This is Crazy Legs! This was the best time of my life. Can u email this to me? I am at 3:24 looking over the ships side, while it looks like I am getting my ass slapped. I miss the fun times we had on this deployment. And it is now ITC (SW) Dollard, who is ret. Ironmen forever.

  • Hey Rosey, Whats up man!?

  • Bertolino, whats up! Not much here man, just working and enjoying life. But I miss the Aveneger, without a doubt the best time of my life! Love the RIMPAC! Send me a message to my You Tube screen name. Keep Drinkin! Crazy Legs.

  • WOW, This ship brings back some good memories. I was on the Ship from Aug. 96' to 2000. I can't believe RMC Dollard is still there. Awesome times my brothers. I remember doing some funny shit there. LOL Fair winds and following seas.

DC2 (SW) Otto (USS Avenger for ever)

  • Hey, nice video. I went on deployment back in 2003 on the SCOUT to the Eastern Med. Now I wish I had taken video on our deployment to put on YouTube.
