He's great, he just need to put his own thing in there, and not play 100% whats on the records. I think the biggest difference between him and Chris and Gil is that they were heavily jazz influenced, and Billy is straight rock.

Gil Sharone was actually really heavily influenced by reggae, watch any video of him playing and he'll incorportate tons of reggae.

i love all of the accents and ghost notes on the snare, thats what separates dillinger from other most other metal bands. they have dynamics and groove

At the end of the video where he plays the beginning of the ending in Sunshine the Werewolf. Those are probably the easiest ghost notes to hear. There are some in the beginning, but not as noticeable.

Ghost notes are musical notes occurring in a rhythmic figure which are purposely deemphasized, often to the point of near silence. In popular music drumming these notes are played, "very softly between the 'main' notes," most often on the snare drum in a drum kit. -wikipedia.

I don't mind the band - i bought the album off itunes the day it came out, i was really looking forward to the self titled, but i was just really disappointed. i find the album drags on too much, as well as the mastering being too clean and overproduced for my liking. and yeah you're right i can't stand the vocals. The cleans are cringe worthy at times, but still interesting, but the growls really are not my cup of tea.
