Was this 1986 or 1988? It's being sold on Amazon and the year says 1988. Region 2 only :( I wish SHOUT FACTORY would sell this. People should flood them with emails. They released a bunch of the cool B movies from Roger Corman, they need to keep it up with more GOOD B movies, and not the C movies that there were so many of.
Thumbs up if a rewatch of avgn's monster madness brought you here and how about some more if the other trailers on the side just brought some new weekend watching. 80's movies are fucking nuts gotta love em!
Man wish they still made movies like this. 80's movies just seem to have a special kind of essence to them. Movies now days are great with the green screen effects and CGI and all, but just seem to be too modern and lack that magic soulful fantasy they once had back in the day. Maybe it's because we've pretty much seen it all and there is really now surprise anymore. Hmm.
@GodsAvengR, Beautifully said!! Filmmakers of the 1960's, 70's, and 80's went out of their way to build their creatures and monsters from scratch, and that gave them a sense of realism and belivability. Nowadays, it's mostly computer images added to the screen.
Even though some CGIs look cool, most of them appear as obvious phoniness.
1:20 they rented that house for the movie and they sure as HELL are going to get their moneys worth- even in the trailer they want everyone to know there is a BIG house in this movie. Director: "I DONT CARE F IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE, PUT THE FUCKING HOUSE ON THE TRAILER!!!"
Yeah, 80's horror flicks stragely get better with time - not all of them, but there is something visceral and honest about them. No CGI, no green screens (Bluescreens, sure)...but the special effects looked less affected and computer generated - that's because they weren't. Re-Animator, Evil Dead 1 and 2..these films looked significant, and they still stand up: they have a pulse, and that's endearing! The Stepfather remake sucks compared to the original 80's, because the original had heart!
The additional footage inserted by the 2nd director was horrible, it looked like they used a budget of $2,000 on it.
From the "necromancer" to the cheap Billy's birthday. They couldn't even afford helium for those balloons! The only cool part of hers was the guy cackling from the coffin at the end, and the cat-man's chase.
@FVK5o2 Real make up, effects, plastic latex, etc. It truly is creepier. That part where the zombie is saying MaMa.. Is funny for obvious reasons. But who here wouldn't bust through a brick wall to get the heck away from that thing? Funny as it was, it also had a sense of creepiness to it. Sort of like the Spitting Image puppets. Look those up. Meant for comedic effect, but creepy as creepy can be! (The Reagan Puppet in Land Of Confusion was Spitting Image).
I wish someone would upload this schlockfest again! So much late night fun! Adrienne's scene was the best part, Charlotte Seeley is the perfect damsel in distress! The only thing this joyous little stink burger was missing was nudity!
I know this movie gets crapped on in general but I think it's creepy and quite entertaining...scared me as a kid too

Well it was released on home video here in early 1987, and its production date was 1986. Sometimes Amazon and the IMDb are wrong.
